Chapter 157: Chapter 50: An Enemy?
Kannabi Bridge.
The sky was a pristine, washed-out blue, with white clouds stretching for miles. The weather, usually scorching, was surprisingly cool today. A gentle breeze brought fresh, invigorating air from the forest, cool and refreshing to the soul.
The stone gate slowly swung open, and Uchiha Madara stepped out. Supplies in the base were running low; it was indeed time to hunt. It was also a rare chance for him to get some fresh air.
Speaking of which, ever since the Uchiha in Konoha had begun their internal strife, Kamihane and Hikari had rarely come out to eat. But Madara was patient with solitude. As long as he didn't say anything, no one would know that he was, in fact, just a little bit lonely.
At first, Madara had assumed Kamihane was plotting something major. For instance, inciting them to split from Konoha, or taking the opportunity to hoard some fresh Sharingan as experimental material for fusing with Hashirama's cell fluid. Although that bunch was beyond saving, they still inherited the bloodline of the Sage's eyes and had some utility.
It wasn't until Hikari told him that Kamihane was merely guiding his own nephew to leave Konoha and poaching a few brats from the village to study gene fusion experiments.
Madara couldn't help but fall into deep thought: Is this kid too idle?
Although the awakening of his Rinnegan was still a distant prospect, and he himself didn't know when he would awaken the power of all creation described on the stone tablet, one day he would open these true Sage's eyes, absorb all the Tailed Beasts, and become the second Sage of Six Paths.
At that time, he would only need to illuminate the world with the Infinite Tsukuyomi to protect eternal peace, rendering this false reality meaningless.
However, Madara soon broke into a wry smile. He had watched Kamihane grow up, personally training him. The boy seemed deep, but some of his ideas were still somewhat naive.
In his view, Kamihane's current actions were nothing more than a desire to become stronger, to obtain eyes like his own through his own power and subtle, intricate plans. This was the only way to ensure the plan wouldn't be affected by uncontrollable factors. Even if he, Uchiha Madara, were to die of old age without awakening the Rinnegan, there would still be Uchiha Kamihane, the successor to carry on the mission of forging eternal peace.
"Is this a form of… filial piety?" Madara shook his head faintly, a slight curve playing on his lips.
Deep in the mountain forest, a massive wild boar was fast asleep in its cave, its belly rising and falling, large enough to fill an entire izakaya. Its snores were like thunder.
Madara swaggered up to it and casually flicked his hand. A pebble shot into the cave, ricocheting off the walls and creating a crisp, clattering sound.
To the boar, this sound was undoubtedly like an alarm clock. It jolted awake, its fierce gaze immediately locking onto Uchiha Madara. Enraged that this tiny human had dared to trespass on its territory and disturb its sleep, it let out a furious roar, bared its tusks, and pawed the ground with all four hooves before charging like a small mountain.
Madara stood his ground, one hand resting lightly on the hilt of his sword. Only when the wind whipped against his face and the boar's massive form completely eclipsed him did he move.
Swish!
The ninja sword left its sheath. A clean, swift draw-slash cut through the thick layer of fat, precisely severing the boar's carotid artery.
The boar let out a慘叫, and with a spray of blood, its massive body rolled out of control. Madara, meanwhile, lightly shook the blood from his blade and waited quietly for the boar to die.
"Hmm, enough to eat for two weeks," he nodded in satisfaction.
As afternoon approached, a rich, meaty aroma wafted from the base. In the kitchen, Madara's hands moved swiftly, dicing the freshly butchered pork belly into rolling cuts, each piece only half the size of a shuriken, before sliding them into the pan to sear.
The reason for this was that Hikari's mouth was small, and eating large chunks of meat could easily get her lips dirty.
While the meat simmered, Madara began to caramelize sugar. Then, various seasonings went into the pot one after another. He expertly tossed the wok, controlling the heat. With practiced ease, a pot of fragrant, tender, and rich-but-not-greasy braised pork was ready.
The color was vibrant, a glossy, translucent red that looked appetizing on its own—all thanks to the caramelized sugar. After all, that kid Kamihane was the type to judge a dish by its appearance. If your food looked plain, he might not even glance at it.
Having done all this, he untied his apron, brewed himself a cup of tea, and sat on his stone chair as usual, waiting for the two to return.
They had arranged to come back for dinner a few days ago.
Madara held his teacup, his thoughts drifting. But suddenly, a powerful instinct made him frown.
A spot of blackness warped the space before him, which split into countless rectangular frames. As they flipped in unison, a portal opened right in front of Madara, like a black eye opening.
He remained composed, not a hint of panic on his face, as if nothing in this world could shake his will. He continued the motion of drinking his tea.
Until… two figures suddenly appeared from the closing portal.
One was his disciple. The other…?
Kamihane's black hair danced wildly, his eyes as red as crimson silk. A dense green aura flowed around him like a fluttering battle robe, or perhaps like a burning, clear flame. His every move made the air tremble, his presence overwhelmingly powerful.
This was clearly the state of the "Sixth Gate of View"!
He was in a fight? To force him into this state, the enemy must be strong?
So… the one he's stepping on is the enemy, then?
"Lord Madara?"
Smelling the familiar aroma of meat and seeing the familiar face, Kamihane faltered for a moment, his mind filled with a sense of temporal dissonance. His overbearing, oppressive, and cold gaze instantly cleared upon seeing Madara.
A stream of azure light flashed through the air—it was a giant, blue skeletal hand, wielding a blade curved like a snake.
Two pale arms flew into the air and landed with a thud. Something in their grasp rolled away with a clatter.
Kamihane finally came to his senses. Looking closely, he saw it was a half-bitten… Crimson Fishing Basket!
"Don't get distracted. Have you forgotten what I taught you? Always be aware of the enemy's movements."
Madara rose from his stone chair, a solid skeletal frame surrounding him. It was he who had acted.
"Damn it! None of you can stop me!"
Urashiki screamed, his hands regenerating. His body dissolved into countless paper cranes, vanishing from under Kamihane's foot and reappearing outside the base.
"The enemy possesses space-time ninjutsu. He must be dealt with in one go, or he will become a major threat."
Madara dismissed his Susano'o, decisively drew a ninja sword, and only looked back when he reached the entrance.
"What are you standing there for?"
"Oh!" Kamihane nodded, his expression strange.
He was somewhat surprised that Old Man Madara could remain so calm in the face of an Ōtsutsuki. After all… well… this was a being who could instantly shatter his worldview and completely refute his supreme "Eye of the Moon Plan."
But he wisely held his tongue and rushed out of the base with Madara.
When the two saw Urashiki, the man had gone completely insane, gouging out his own eyes and swallowing them one by one.
"Tsk," Madara frowned at the sight. "And I went to all the trouble of making braised pork."
