Having landed safely on this strange little island, Kaito took a moment to survey his surroundings.

All around were wrecked ships—clearly merchant or pirate vessels that had been dragged in by the currents surrounding the island.

Currents, giant birds, shipwrecks… these elements clustered around a single island felt oddly familiar to Kaito. He had the nagging feeling he'd heard of this place before, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't recall where.

Shaking his head, Kaito circled the island a few times, but in the end, came up empty-handed.

Back at the shore, Kaito was a little disappointed. He'd thought he'd stumbled onto some hidden dungeon, but it turned out to be just a slightly dangerous ordinary island?

Still, since he was already here, he wasn't about to give up. With this many wrecked ships, there had to be treasure worth taking.

He wondered how well-off Borsalino was. Once he became Fleet Admiral, maybe he could test out that saying: "Pay him right, and he'll take down a Yonko."

After stashing the loot, Kaito didn't leave right away. Instead, he activated ROOM: Swap again.

During his earlier scan, he'd detected a life form in the storage room of one of the ships. It looked like… a giant bird?

Moments later, it found itself here, completely disoriented. Its bird-brain, clearly not built for such rapid changes, couldn't handle the stress.

It shook its huge head and looked around in a daze—until it finally noticed Kaito standing by its foot.

Yes, the bird recognized humans. To it, the ships that washed ashore were basically food deliveries.

Every time a ship arrived, it would be loaded with fresh "meat snacks" like Kaito.

"Caw!"

It screeched excitedly. It loved the taste of "meat snacks," and it had been a long time since one last appeared. It could hardly wait.

Kaito stared at the dumb bird, unimpressed. He deactivated the ROOM space and casually punched it in the stomach—a normal human swat, like trying to smack a mosquito.

After throwing up, the bird looked at Kaito with terror in its eyes.

Deciding it was better to run than to die, the bird spread its wings to flee.

Noticing its intent, Kaito looked up and glared. The moment the Rinnegan's gaze locked onto it, sweat beaded across the bird's massive head.

Silently, it folded its wings, curled into a ball, and stared at Kaito with big, pitiful eyes.

Ignoring the bird, Kaito turned his attention to the ornate chest it had just coughed up.

"Is this a loot drop?" he muttered to himself.

He pulled the chest toward him with a gesture and used a Water Release technique to clean it off—after all, it had come from a bird's stomach.

He picked it up but didn't scan it with ROOM. It wasn't like he was afraid of traps or poison—he just wanted to enjoy the fun of opening a mystery box.

With a little excitement, he slowly lifted the lid. Inside was a fiery red fruit.

Seeing it, Kaito's eyes flickered with disappointment.

He recognized it instantly. Shaped like a dragon fruit with flame-like skin, this was unmistakably the infamous Flame-Flame Fruit.

No wonder the island had felt familiar from the moment he arrived. Wasn't it mentioned in Ace's spinoff novel?

Ace had eaten the Flame-Flame Fruit here. He and another guy were starving, split the fruit in half, and Ace swallowed his piece first—gaining the power.

So it was just a basic dungeon after all. Low-level enemies, unimpressive loot—not much to expect.

Kaito cast another glare at the cowering bird. The poor thing trembled so hard it nearly buried its head into its belly.

After scaring the bird a bit, Kaito turned back to the fruit in his hand, looking a little speechless.

To be fair, he was kind of being a spoiled brat about it. The Flame-Flame Fruit was still a Logia-type Devil Fruit—and one with powerful innate damage.

Sure, it had a bad reputation, but that was only at the highest levels of play. Later on, Doflamingo had even used it as a tournament prize, attracting loads of strong contestants—that alone proved it still had value.

But for Kaito, right now, it was just... meh. He definitely wasn't going to waste a Devil Fruit slot on it.

Especially since this fruit was countered by Sakazuki's magma. Some people debate whether magma really beats fire, but Oda said it did, so that's that. He's the final word.

Thinking it over, Kaito realized no one close to him was suited to this fruit either. And now that he had it, he definitely wasn't going to let Ace get his hands on it.

He didn't owe Ace anything. If Ace still turned pirate and crossed paths with him, then there'd be no need for Blackbeard to step in.

Suddenly, a wicked grin spread across Kaito's face. A mischievous idea popped into his head.

He placed a hand on the ground and muttered,

"Summoning Jutsu!"

POOF! A dog larger than the giant bird appeared—three-headed and menacing. It was the strongest summon from the Animal Path besides Modis: the Multi-Headed Dog.

Kaito casually tossed the Flame-Flame Fruit into the middle head's mouth. The fruit slid right down its throat.

Moments later, the three heads burst into flame, transforming into blazing dog-shaped infernos.

Kaito looked on with satisfaction. The Multi-Headed Dog, now infused with the Flame-Flame Fruit, had become a true Hellhound.
