Chapter 256: Taking down their lifeline beast's life
Wilderness:
The middle-aged leader saw that his centipede lifeline beast had suffered sword cuts. He felt the pain from his mental zone.
The other two middle-aged men ordered their lifeline beasts to attack. They had Tier-3 black snakes. Both of them had the same species of the black snake beast.
Jeremy saw that the other two beast tamers released their lifeline beasts. It should be easy for him to kill the centipede, but its size posed difficulty.
He knew it would take a few more sword cuts to kill the beast, but he didn't have time to think. Next, he was constantly on the move.
Slash!
The huge centipede beast was trying to block him. Yet, he slashed at its body with a sharp-edged blade. The injuries caused by the sword made the centipede in pain.
Not only was the beast suffering from the pain; their boss received the backlash as well. That's why he ordered the other two to attack with their lifeline beasts.
Boom!
While dealing with the centipede beast, Jeremy felt a sense of crisis coming from behind.
"Explosive Step!"
He exploded forward with great speed to move away from the spot. At the same time, a powerful long snake tail struck the spot.
Boom!
The shock wave erupted with a booming noise. The wave spread across before hitting the body of the centipede beast as well.
Swoosh!
Jeremy widened the gap by retreating further away from the spot. He saw the two black snakes with the centipede beast.
His expression turned serious. Now he had to be careful. He totally ignored the beast tamers and focused on severing the head of one of the lifeline beasts quickly.
Both snakes were similar in size, over 20 meters in length.
Hiss!
The centipede beast suffered a few sword cuts in its body. Blood gushed from it. If Jeremy had dealt a few more sword cuts, it would have died.
Swoosh!
The two black snakes darted toward the target. Their beast tamers carefully stayed behind. It's just that their intel was wrong. The target turned out to be a Tier-2 beast tamer.
If they had known, they wouldn't have waited to attack. They would have secretly dealt with him.
On the other hand, Jeremy tightened his grip on the sword handle. He had become serious. Both of his eyes were fixed on the incoming snake beast.
Under his gaze, their movements appeared to stand still. His talent came into play. The next second, his vision ability took effect.
He zoomed in on the first snake beast's head. As he further used his vision, he could see the beast's blood vessels clearly.
His mouth curved into an arc.
Cut!
He moved his body when the beast got closer. In a flash, he leaped over and brought his single-edged blade down.
The blade, filled with starlight energy, cut through the skin like butter before severing the giant head in half.
Puchak!
Blood emerged forcefully from the beast's neck. He didn't stop there. He withdrew the sword before slashing it again.
Thud!
This time, his blade severed the remaining part. The decapitated head dropped on the ground.
Puchak!
A torrent of blood gushed forth from the severed part. The snake's body trembled before dropping to the ground.
Aaaaaahhh!
One of the beast tamers cried out as he suffered the backlash.
Jeremy ignored the cry and bolted toward the next beast. The snake's pupils flashed with fear, but it couldn't disobey its contractor's order.
Hiss!
The snake widened its mouth to swallow its prey.
At that moment, Jeremy's eyes flashed with a glint as he zoomed in to target the beast's body. He appeared in a flash over the beast's head.
The beast's movements appeared frozen under his gaze. He then gripped the handle with both hands and brought it downward.
The blade filled with new starlight energy was yet to disappear. The blade penetrated the skin before slicing downward.
In the blink of an eye, most of the head was severed. Due to its enormous size, he drew the blade once again to cut it completely.
Pfff!
Blood surged forth from its wound. The decapitated snake head rolled over the ground. This all happened within seconds.
Swoosh!
Jeremy then turned his gaze toward the beast tamers. Two of them were on the ground, clutching their heads. They were suffering from the backlash.
Right now, their mental zone had cracked because of their lifeline beast's death.
At the same time, their leader couldn't believe what was happening. He hurriedly took back his centipede lifeline beast.
Jeremy saw their leader staring at him in disbelief. Seeing that he had taken back his lifeline beast, he realized he was looking to flee.
But he was not going to let that happen. He quickly sheathed his katana and then took out the handgun.
Before the leader could guess, Jeremy aimed at him.
His eyes flickered as he zoomed in on his forehead. This all happened within a few seconds.
But that was enough for their leader to sense something wrong. Just as he was about to turn around...
Bang! Bang!
Jeremy fired continuous shots. The bullets sped fast, tearing through the air. In a flash, the bullets hit the head of their leader.
The skull of the Tier-3 beast tamer was so hard that the next bullets took time to puncture his head.
Puchak!
The leader lost his breath before lying lifeless on the ground. The other two beast tamers were petrified. Their mental zones were damaged due to their lifeline beasts' deaths.
Now, they were nothing more than cripples.
Jeremy looked at them, knowing it was time to interrogate them.
He asked, "If you don't want to die, just answer my questions. You guys are cripples now. You can't escape."
Hearing that, the two beast tamers shuddered. They looked at each other before nodding their heads. The Tier-1 beast tamer turned out to be a genius.
He was now a Tier-2 beast tamer, but he had easily killed their lifeline beasts. Not only that, their boss was shot down.
The two beast tamers then agreed to confess. They didn't want to die. Jeremy's eyebrows relaxed. Now he had a chance to learn some truth.
"Tell me!"
"Who wanted me dead?" Jeremy asked.
One of them quickly replied, "We saw a kill task posted in the underground network. Our leader took the task."
"Kill Task," Jeremy uttered in surprise.
He understood what was going on. Someone wanted him dead, so they had posted the job on an anonymous site.
"Alright, you guys come with me," Jeremy said.
Hearing that, both beast tamers felt relieved. But just as they stood up...
Bang! Bang!
Jeremy fired at them. In a flash, the bullets penetrated their eyes before puncturing their brains. The two of them, with unwilling eyes, dropped dead on the ground.
Jeremy then put the gun back in its holster. Looking at the three bodies on the ground, he felt relieved.
Then he cast a glance at the place before leaving. The scent of blood would attract corrupted beasts. He didn't want to stay there.
In case a higher-tier corrupted beast came, it wouldn't be good for him.
About 20 minutes later,
Jeremy arrived at another dense and isolated place. The land was covered with bushes and weird trees all around him. It wouldn't be easy for humans or beasts to spot him.
Even if something appeared, he could spot it with his eyesight.
He then sat on the brown rock and began to ponder.
Earlier, he wanted to test his strength against the corrupted beasts. In contrast, he had fought against the beast tamers and their lifeline beasts.
The lifeline beasts are more intelligent than the corrupted beasts. It took him more time to deal with them.
Jeremy realized he had it easy when fighting against corrupted beasts. The corrupted beasts usually followed their instincts to fight.
The lifeline beasts received their orders from their beast tamers, so it wasn't easy to fight against them. Jeremy decided to digest the information later.
More importantly, he found out that bullets were useless against a Tier-3 Beast Tamer and their lifeline beasts. If not for him firing at the same spot, their leader wouldn't have died.
Jeremy now realized why no one used firearms these days. If the beast tamers grew above Tier-3, no one could hurt them using firearms.
He then looked at the gun case. He had spent more than a week learning the new skill. Now he felt like it was useless.
Just as he was lost in thought, he had an idea out of nowhere. He slowly circulated the starlight energy in his palm.
A milky white energy gathered in his palm.
He then tried to manipulate the starlight energy. The starlight moved like a fluid in his palm. He had this crazy idea right now.
If he could manipulate the starlight energy according to his will, it would be useful. But he knew it would take tremendous effort.
It wouldn't be as simple as covering a blade with starlight energy. But if he could master this skill, then he could use it in more ways to kill the beasts.
