Strongest Demigod System

Chapter 86: Declaration

At lunch that day, Azrael sat with Maddison once more.

Maddison was eating her regular large portion of food, and Azrael just watched the people in the cafeteria calmly after he finished his own smaller portion.

The thought of Cleopatra and her offer for courtship came to his mind again, and Azrael wondered why Cleopatra chose him.

But this time, Azrael didn't feel any of the confusion or irritation that he felt earlier.

Instead, Azrael felt calm as he combed through all the things he knew about Cleopatra while trying to find a reason behind her actions.

Ever since Azrael completed the first Hymn of the Lithany and accepted who he was, he felt a much greater calmness and ease in his actions.

His mind had cleared, and the many emotions that used to plague him had slowly bled into cold logic. His guilt, hate, anger, and desperation had all been reduced to fuel for his ambition.

That was the only emotion that seemed to burn as brightly as ever in Azrael's heart.

Azrael still wanted to be the strongest, and he was still willing to do anything to achieve it.

But he was no longer going to question the things that he did. Not like before.

Azrael waited until Maddison was done with her plate before he finally brought up a curious question.

"What do you know about the student council president?"

Maddison looked at Azrael in surprise, and Azrael waited calmly for her to organize her thoughts before she answered.

"She's part of the Larkson family. They're one of the strongest families in the world right now. They have three demigods, and two of them are already active in the Null Zone. Why are you asking about her?"

Azrael hummed and looked away from Maddison for a moment. He considered not saying anything about the recent development.

Azrael still didn't know how he was going to handle Cleopatra, and since Azrael knew that Maddison liked him, he didn't want a situation where Maddison did something that would make Cleopatra angry due to jealousy.

Azrael once read online that when dealing with multiple women, it was best to keep them away from each other and handle them separately.

That sounded like very good advice.

But Azrael couldn't get much out of Maddison without revealing some of the current situation, so he measured his words very well before he answered.

"Cleopatra called me to her office earlier to talk about something, and when we were talking, she told me that her family isn't concerned about who she gets married to, so she was free to choose for herself. Is this the same with every major family?"

Azrael rose a brow while asking this, and Maddison went silent at the question.

This was the first time that Azrael would be bringing up a topic that was outside of his plans for the next kill, so it made her think that Azrael was slowly starting to confide in her as a regular friend.

Maddison smiled a little and answered with a lot of enthusiasm.

"Yeah, most of the families are like that. They mostly stay away from children of darkness, but they are more concerned with connections than power. The person you marry doesn't determine if you'll give birth to a demigod or not, so your marriage partner isn't going to affect it."

Azrael hummed once more. It appears Cleopatra hadn't been lying earlier.

Her parents really wouldn't care who she got married to since it wasn't going to determine whether or not her child was a demigod.

But then, why choose him? She knew that he was blessed by the god of darkness, so there was no reason for her to want him.

Wait... is the reason for this because he doesn't have a God Aspect?

Azrael felt a small amount of amusement bubble out from inside him.

Cleopatra was coming to him because she thought he was like her father. She must have some convoluted desire to replicate her parents' relationship and she was going to do that by getting the reject to fall for her.

Would she lose her mind if she discovered that her entire plan was doomed to fail?

Azrael just shook his head at the idea of Cleopatra's desires and he took a drink of water from the water bottle in front of him before he heard Maddison speak up.

"Actually, there's something else that I heard about the Larkson family."

Azrael rose a brow at her curiously and asked her what it was.

Maddison's smile was still at full throttle as she answered.

"There's a rumor that they have been in marriage talks with the Grey family for a union between Cleopatra and Darwin Grey."

Azrael was confused, and his mind immediately traveled toward the boy that Miss Terra had spoken about in the captain's meeting earlier.

Darwin Grey, the strongest demigod in Divine Academy.

Azrael chuckled again, and Maddison just watched him with a smile.

Well now, things just got a lot more interesting.

This meant that Cleopatra wasn't coming onto him just because he didn't have a God aspect.

Was she desperate?

Azrael now had some good information on Cleopatra, and he felt like it was going to help him understand her actions in the future a lot more.

If Cleopatra was only doing all this because she didn't want the marriage with Darwin to go through, then he might as well use this to his advantage.

This might be a good opportunity to grow stronger.

Azrael checked his watch and saw that it was nearly time to end lunch, and he spoke to Maddison.

"Sunny agreed to let us come to the party."

Maddison was shocked and she asked Azrael how in the world he managed to make Sunny agree.

Azrael answered on autopilot.

"Cleopatra spoke up for me. Apparently, her status is much higher than even Sunny's."

Maddison was confused, and she wondered why Cleopatra was interested in them being at the party.

But then, Maddison's mind went back to earlier that Monday when Cleopatra took them to the headmaster's office and how close Cleopatra had been sitting to Azrael.

A nasty feeling of jealousy began to rise in Maddison's heart at the implication.

That feeling, combined with the fact that Cleopatra called Azrael to her office afterward to 'talk,' only made Maddison feel worse.

The bell rang for the end of lunch, and Azrael stood and got ready to go to class.

"Uhm, hey, Azrael."

Azrael stopped when Maddison called him, and she stood up with a small blush on her face before she took in a breath and spoke up with a stutter in her voice.

"C-Can we exchange numbers? F-for tomorrow. I'll need to know what you're wearing so I can match you for the event. And… we'll also need to arrive together, so maybe I can tell my driver to pick you up… and uhm… and…"

Maddison slowly lost her confidence the longer she spoke, and she looked down at her interlaced hands with the blush still burning on her face.

She had never asked anyone for their contact before, least of all a boy, so she felt so embarrassed that she could melt into the ground from how hot her face was.

Azrael smiled and held out his phone to her.

Once Maddison saw this, she smiled happily and tapped her own phone on top of his to exchange their contacts.

Azrael waved at her as he turned to leave, and Maddison stared at him with a blush as he turned the corner before she looked down at the number on her phone with a dangerous look in her eyes.

Azrael was the first person who had shown her this much kindness in her entire life, and she would be damned if she allowed anyone to take that away from her.
