Strongest Demigod System

Chapter 88: Demigod Alley

The mortal plane had a geographical structure that perplexed many scholars even to this day.

Once, there had been multiple continents surrounded on various sides by vast oceans. But one day, long before humans gained the ability to defend themselves, the Null Void appeared around the mortal land, dragging all of the continents together and creating a large mass of land with many interlocking waterways and borders separating them.

These masses of land were then attacked by the monsters that appeared from the Veil. The daemons destroyed more than two-thirds of the world when they first appeared.

There were no demigods and no means of stopping them from doing whatever they wanted, so they ran rampant across the land.

But along with the daemons, the gods of the Void also came into being.

Mythical gods that humans thought were nothing but fantasy turned out to be real, and many humans were chosen by these gods to be humanity's protectors.

These humans became the first generation of demigods. The pseudo-gods.

After the pseudo-gods, the second generation of demigods were then born, and in time, they grew up to become the fighting force that humanity depended on.

At this point, more than sixty percent of Earth the had been absorbed by the Void, making it impossible for humans to live there, and the rest of humanity had been pushed back to the small patch of land that was now regarded as the Mortal plane.

But even though humanity suffered greatly from the daemons' attack, that didn't mean that they stayed down for long.

As always, humanity found a way to bounce back. Technology and Divine Aspects became the driving force for humanity's resurrection, and as the daemons were slowly pushed away from the mortal plane and into the Null Zone once more, humanity began to flourish and enjoy the fruits of their ancestors' labor.

Demigods were worshipped as gods by humans, and they were allowed to create and manage most of the government as they saw fit.

This gave demigods a much stronger presence in the world and allowed them to create policies and trade networks to benefit those who were chosen by the gods, as well as their families.

Artifacts, daemon parts, precious metals, ores, and important historical talismans carved with runes became the most precious commodities that were brought back by the demigods who ventured into the Veil.

These products had to be seriously regulated because of how powerful they were.

Even the weakest F-rank artifact had enough power and essence within it to transform an F-ranked demigod into a C-rank powerhouse if used properly.

The thought of what this artifact could do if it were to land in the wrong hands became a cause for concern, and so the pantheons all came together and formed a collective group that would be in charge of handling all forms of tools and products that were brought back from the Null Zone.

This group was known as the Auric Traders.

The Auric Traders had a base in every city in the mortal plane, as well as many of the most popular parts of the Null Void. All the members of the Auric Traders were demigods, and they operated on a secret network of signs and runes that couldn't be deciphered by anyone who wasn't a part of the close circle of traders.

And today, Cleopatra was dragging Azrael along to one of the trading centers that was handled by the Auric Traders here in City S.

Demigod Alley.

The helicopter ride hadn't taken as long as Azrael thought it would, and by the time they were landing on the other side of the city, it was only nine.

Their car drove past various large buildings and skyscrapers that seemed like they were scratching against the sky.

Many of the buildings had the logos of major gods carved into their sides, showing that they were pantheon buildings belonging to the children of those gods.

There were popular businesses and large corporations that Azrael recognized as well, and he knew without a doubt that they were now in the richer part of the city.

This was where the filthy rich came to live and do business.

A place that Azrael never thought he would get to see in his life.

"Have you been here before?"

Cleopatra started a conversation, and Azrael answered that he hadn't.

Cleopatra smiled as she pointed to a building a few meters away from them.

It was a large skyscraper that towered above most of the others around it. There was no symbol on it, but it had a grandeur that told Azrael it was more than just an office building.

"That's one of my family's houses over there."

Cleopatra's words just made Azrael chuckle, in one part amusement and another part resignation.

He wasn't even surprised since he already expected something like this.

The car drove past the large buildings, and after a while, they reached what looked like an older Victorian-styled complex.

They got out of the car, and Azrael looked around to see that there was no one else around the building other than a single man standing at the door. As Cleopatra neared it, she brought out an ID card and showed it to him.

The man looked the card over, and then he glanced at Azrael for a moment before he nodded and allowed them through.

The door opened, and Azrael's eyes narrowed when he saw nothing but a dark veil beyond the door.

What the hell?

"Just walk forward. Come on, it won't bite."

Cleopatra spoke in a teasing tone as she went past the veil, and Azrael took a deep breath before he also took that step of faith.

"You want to go buy the Great Sword of Lilith?"

"I think I saw the Teardrop of Milicent over there. I need more healing items."

"The cursed shroud won't work if I don't get the blessed shawl with it. I can't find it anywhere."

"Do you have any strength-boosting artifacts?"

"I want to get something for my speed. I think the Lungs of Giamoore will be okay."

Loud voices suddenly assaulted Azrael's senses once he passed through the dark veil, and Azrael felt his eyes widen at the sight he saw.

It was a busy intersection filled with hundreds of people walking around the various shops.

They were all carrying bags filled with artifacts, and just from their conversations, Azrael could tell that each one of them was a demigod who was purchasing items to strengthen themselves.

Shops lined the street, and above the doors, various plaques had engravings of the shop names on them.

This was Demigod Alley.

"Surprised, eh? You shouldn't look that shocked. We've only begun."

Cleopatra smirked at the look on Azrael's face, and for once, Azrael didn't bother trying to hide his expression. This was genuinely the single most extraordinary thing that Azrael had ever seen in his life.

As a demigod, Azrael always knew that there was far more to the world than what he was always seeing in the mortal plane. That world was something that was created for humans to continue living life like normal; it was never meant for demigods to remain there.

Seeing a sight like this made Azrael realize just how much more there was out there. He was like a small fish that grew up in a small pond being introduced to the large ocean for the first time ever.

Azrael was immediately addicted to the sight of it.
