Chapter 93: Suspicion
Jay finished typing on the keyboard, and he pressed enter to bring the katana to its final form.
The holographic image finally shimmered and vanished before a compartment at the side slid out to reveal a cylinder that was similar to the one used in the simulation room in Divine Academy.
Jay handed Azrael a pair of glasses and told him to grab the cylinder, and once Azrael took it, the cylinder shimmered and transformed into a realistic duplicate of the hologram.
Swish!
Swish!
Azrael made a few practice swings with the sword, testing out the weight and balance, and he shook his head.
"It's a little light."
Jay nodded and started to make some more adjustments.
"Try it again."
Jay spoke up after a few seconds, and Azrael felt the cylinder in his hand increase in weight. Azrael swung the blade a few times, and this time it felt very similar to how the Oathkeeper blade felt in his hand.
Heavy and imposing, but also very precise.
"Perfect."
Jay took off his glasses and came to take the cylinder away from Azrael while speaking.
"Alright then, you can come by in a week to pick it up."
Azrael blinked in surprise.
"What? Wait… I said I didn't have the money for something like this. Unless you're going to take two thousand dollars as payment, I can't give you anything."
Jay scoffed in amusement, and Cleopatra laughed as she came out from the other room where she had been testing her weapon while talking.
"You couldn't buy a needle for two thousand dollars here. If Jay wants to give you a weapon, then all you have to say is thanks."
Azrael looked from Cleopatra over to Jay again, and when Jay saw the confusion on his face, he spoke up.
"Look, you not having a God Aspect means that there isn't much I need to add to the weapon. It's going to be one of the simplest creations I've ever made, and it won't take that long. I have some material left over from Miss Cleo's weapon, so I'll craft your blade from that. And since Miss Cleo is already paying for her weapon in full, there's no need for payment on your part, just make sure you come pick it up yourself."
Azrael felt a strange surge of emotion from within him when he heard what Jay said; part of it was gratitude, but another much deeper emotion was also present there.
Suspicion.
Azrael glanced towards Cleopatra discreetly and wondered what they were playing at here before he bowed his head gratefully and said, "Thank you."
Jay just waved him off nonchalantly.
Azrael's suspicion grew.
Cleopatra spoke up again.
"So how much do I owe you?"
Jay slid a piece of paper along the table, and Azrael felt his eyes twitch when he saw seven zeros on the paper.
Holy shit, just how expensive are weapons in the Celestial world?
Azrael knew that there was a stipend paid out by the Divine Enforcers to every demigod that graduated from Divine Academy and joined them, and he also heard from some of his classmates that the Divine Enforcers would cover the cost of all weapons and artifacts that a demigod needed depending on a demigod's Mortal and Divine ranking.
But Azrael knew for a fact that there was no way they would give this much money to every demigod.
And since Cleopatra was not yet a Divine Enforcer, that meant she was paying for the weapon with her own money.
Either that, or she was being sponsored by her pantheon.
Many pantheons began giving out stipends and weapons to the demigods under their Celestial Guardian from a young age so that they would be nurtured properly and become more loyal to the Pantheon.
If the Thor Pantheon saw a lot of potential in Cleopatra, then there was a chance that they were the ones paying for it.
Cleopatra didn't have any reaction to the amount and she paid for the weapon quickly with a check.
Jay took Azrael's contact information, and the both of them headed out of the House of Hephaestus and back onto the road.
"You should be really grateful. Most people would kill to have Jay make a weapon for them, but he's giving you one for free."
Cleopatra spoke up when they were out of the building and on the street. Azrael nodded in acceptance of her words.
He was definitely grateful for it, and Azrael would make sure to pass that on to Jay when next they met.
But the slight suspicion that had taken root in Azrael's heart was still present.
Why would Jay give him a weapon worth millions for free?
Was it really just because Jay had spare materials lying around?
That sounded too far-fetched.
Azrael was not the sort of person to view the world through rainbow lenses. People never do anything for nothing in return.
'I'll think about it later.'
Azrael thought this as he looked down at his watch and saw that it was nearing eleven. If he didn't get back soon, he wouldn't be able to get enough sleep.
They were going to be put through the ringer by Scar for tomorrow's training class, so Azrael needed to get as much rest as possible before that.
Azrael asked when they would be going back, and Cleopatra looked at the time and saw that it was nearly eleven.
"Oh, it's this late. Don't worry, I'll explain things to your matron. I want us to check out one more place before leaving."
Azrael asked her what this place was. He really had to get enough rest for tomorrow.
Cleopatra just smiled in that same mysterious way she always did before she took his hand again and began to drag him through the crowd.
For a girl, Cleopatra was quite tall, and Azrael was only able to surpass her in height by a few centimeters. They were both very attractive and had well-sculpted figures from working out so much.
So when she was standing beside Azrael, the both of them gave off an attractive image that made many demigods turn to them curiously.
"Hey, look at those two. Are they a couple?"
"That boy's so handsome."
"Man, look at those jugs. What the hell?"
"Manny! What are you looking at!? You're checking out another girl when your girlfriend's right beside you!?"
"What!? No, I wasn't!"
The both of them ignored the voices around them as they sped up towards another part of the alley.
Azrael wanted to tell Cleopatra not to drag him along like she was doing, but he decided that it wasn't enough to bother him.
Today had been one of the best experiences in Azrael's sixteen years of life, so being dragged around a little by Cleopatra wasn't enough to spoil his mood.
The both of them ran for close to thirty minutes nonstop, and by the time they stopped, they weren't even breathing heavily.
Azrael tilted his head as he saw another Victorian-style building with a single man standing in front of it.
The man asked for an ID, just like the previous one, and when Cleopatra showed him her ID, he nodded and allowed them both to pass through.
As the door opened, Azrael was greeted by the sight of another one of the dark veils.
This time, Azrael didn't hesitate as he passed through the veil together with Cleopatra.
