Chapter 98: Nobody's Servant
Azrael and Cleopatra were so close that their chests were pressing against each other, and Cleopatra had a sly smile on her face as she slowly worked on arranging his tie properly.
Cleo looked up into Azrael's eyes.
"You look very handsome."
Azrael nodded seriously.
"Thanks."
"Are you sure you won't change your mind about your date for the party? I have half a mind to force you to come with me. After all, what woman would want to see a man like you in the arms of another? I know I don't."
Azrael closed his eyes and released a silent sigh before he opened them again and faced Cleopatra squarely.
"I already have a date, Cleopatra. But thank you for the compliment."
Cleopatra's smile widened at his words. It was almost like she had expected his answer before he spoke, and she was pleased to see that she was right.
"Very well then, I won't push you too much. But you must promise me a dance at least. I won't take no for an answer."
Cleopatra leaned forward, and Azrael leaned back a little when he thought she wanted to kiss him, but instead, she tilted her head to one side and placed a small peck on his cheek while whispering to him in a low, suggestive tone.
"Do you promise?"
Azrael felt his skin tingle at the spot where Cleopatra kissed him, and her voice in his ear sent electricity through his veins in the same way her lightning did.
He had to struggle not to stare at her lips afterward.
He simply looked her in the eye and nodded.
"I promise."
Cleopatra smiled happily.
Behind them, Flora looked like she was about to have a heart attack from an overdose of emotion.
When they finally separated, Azrael was surprised to see the tailor with one hand over her heart and the other over her head as she stared at them with wide eyes. It wasn't until Cleopatra called to her that Flora finally came back to her senses.
Cleopatra told Flora to pack up the suit, then promised to send the payment through wire later before they both left Demigod Alley and headed home.

[The Government Funded Dorm]
Azrael woke up the next day with his bed surrounded by grinning boys.
Azrael looked all of them over with tired eyes as he wondered if they had all gone mad, and after a few seconds of them just staring at him, he finally had to ask.
"What the fuck are you all doing?"
Thomas was the one who spoke up first.
"Come on, boss. Why didn't you tell us your girlfriend was so beautiful? She must really love you if she came to pick you up in her car! You went out for three hours last night with her! What did you do, boss? Did you go to her place? Did you guys have make-up—SHIT!"
Azrael lashed out and slammed his knuckle into the side of Thomas' head, making him cry out as he felt his head throb with pain!
Azrael then told all the boys to fuck off.
"It's too early for this shit."
Azrael sat up in bed and frowned as another boy continued.
"Boss! Simon said that your girlfriend is older than you! Is that true?"
"Greg said that she's the student council president! She's like two years older than the boss!"
"Boss, teach me how to catch older women! Please!"
"Boss, I want a girlfriend too! Does she have a sister?"
"Boss…!"
"Boss…!"
Azrael sighed and ignored the cries from all the boys as he headed straight for the bathroom and shut the door behind him.
In Azrael's right hand, the Essence Breaker stone was still intact with its black coloration covering it entirely.
After getting back from Demigod Alley last night, Azrael had immediately gotten down to training with the Essence Breaker. He recalled how Cleopatra had sent her Essence through the stone to make it shatter, and he began trying to do the same thing.
But one thing Cleopatra failed to mention last night was just how difficult it was to pass your Essence through other objects.
Trying to put his Essence into the Essence Breaker was like trying to make still water flow up a vertical tube.
It was virtually impossible.
The Essence Breaker rejected all forms of Essence, and in order to make your Essence go into it, you had to possess extraordinary control over the power source.
This test wasn't just to teach Azrael how to send Essence into another object, it was meant to teach him Essence Control.
Azrael sighed and stared at his reflection in the mirror.
Narrowed eyes stared back.
Yesterday was an amazing adventure for Azrael, but all that was in the past now.
Azrael had to get his head back in the game and focus.
Today was the day he would be meeting Harold Sabastine, and Azrael had to make sure they prepared everything they needed.
Azrael couldn't get distracted by the picture of a perfect life that Cleopatra had put in front of him.
That life was a lie.
It was something that could only come to be if Azrael remained weak and docile towards Cleopatra.
Cleopatra thought that Azrael didn't have any God Aspect, and that was the only reason why she was doing everything she did.
If she knew he had one, then she would never try to teach him about Authorities and she would've never let him kill those daemons.
She wanted him under her thumb, and so she was showing him how beautiful life would be if he was in her control.
Azrael's eyes narrowed further as this thought came to his mind.
This was the irrefutable truth, and it made the feeling of hatred grow in Azrael's heart for the woman.
Once more, Azrael reminded himself that he was only using Cleopatra for what she could do for him.
Learning an Authority was going to be useful, and that was why he was going to have to keep their relationship civil.
And he was also going to be getting a useful weapon from Jay through Cleopatra.
Azrael wasn't so naïve that he would believe what Jay said yesterday about having 'extra materials' lying around.
No reasonable person gave out a weapon worth millions simply because they had extra materials lying around.
Azrael was sure that Cleopatra paid Jay to make him a weapon, and she told him to bring it up in that way for some reason.
It was too convenient, therefore Azrael was convinced that it was just a farce.
But who cared if it was a farce?
Azrael was getting a free weapon, and that was what mattered.
Once Azrael was sure that there was nothing more he could gain from Cleopatra, he had every intention of getting away from her.
Azrael was nobody's servant.
Sting!
A sharp pain from his right hand brought Azrael back to the present, and he looked down at his gloves angrily. Azrael took it off and frowned at the rotting hand.
He still hadn't forgotten about this fate.
He couldn't allow himself to get distracted from completing the mission today.
Azrael glanced at the status tab:
…
Status: Cursed by Necrosis
Rate of Propagation: 25%
Days Till Complete Propagation: 5 Days
Comment: User is in the Safe Zone
…
The Necrosis hadn't spread much further than yesterday, and Azrael was still in the safe zone, so if he completed his mission today, everything should reset.
Azrael couldn't get distracted.
Azrael took a quick bath and walked out of the bathroom while drying his hair a few minutes later.
A message popped up on his phone, and Azrael opened it to see that it was from Maddison.
[Good morning. I got a dress.]
