Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 497: Could Erase One's Memory, But Not Their Sin (Bonus)

Nathan looked at Daniel, asking, "Did you get involved in that massacre against the soldiers with those mysterious people?"

Daniel panicked. "No."

Nathan glanced at the scale, which didn't change. "In that case, have you massacred people together with Garam Haygaiden before becoming a part of the Divine Hand Organization?"

"No."

Clack!

The scale suddenly tipped.

Evelyn was dumbfounded, while Nathan smiled. Because he had been wording his sentence carefully in the soul contract, he made sure to word it in a way where Garam was involved.

Nathan glanced at Evelyn. "I think you already figured it out, but the fact the scale tips means they have done something bad together. My guess is probably true. Garam Haygaiden was a part of that organization. The massacre I was talking about was the Bloody Banquet.

"In other words, Garam Haygaiden was involved in that massacre. Still, Daniel was not involved in the fight against the Liaystian Kingdom. On the other hand, we didn't know about Garam. There was a chance that Garam Haygaiden was actually one of their founding members.

"That's why even if the Blood Town doesn't give us anything, we can still focus on the Divine Hand. So, make sure to be as careful as possible. I don't want us to lose any members because of a reckless attempt when there's a sure way to get it. Just take a bit more time."

After saying those words, Nathan turned back to Daniel. "Did you participate with other hands in the Bloody Banquet's massacre? Exclude Iskar from this question."

"I don't know."

Clack!

The scale changed once again.

"I ruled out Iskar, but it seemed Garam actually got several people to follow him." Nathan squinted his eyes.

"It's not that rare for an organization." Bella confirmed.

"Yeah." Nathan thought for a moment. He decided to ask the same question ten times, each with a single name, to see who was participating in that banquet as well.

As he expected, they got two names. Eyewood and Lucas.

It was most likely that Eyewood was involved with that group as a mechanic, while Lucas was still involved in their teleportation system.

Nathan crossed his arms, contemplating. "Do any of you want to ask a question?"

Bella and the others exchanged looks with a wry smile. They were not as creative as Nathan in their questions, so they didn't really have any questions to ask.

"I have one." Evelyn's expression turned solemn. "Did you and all the people involved ever target me during the banquet?"

"Yes."

When the scale tipped, Evelyn's face turned grim. She couldn't help but wonder if the massacre was caused by her.

Nathan asked, "Did you and all the people ever target Vivian Lorelei during the banquet?"

"Yes."

The scale tipped again. Nathan looked at Evelyn as if telling her that it wasn't her fault alone. They indeed attacked the banquet for a reason, but he didn't know what their reason was.

Nathan pinched the bridge of his nose. "I don't have any other questions. Should we end it here?"

Evelyn nodded. "I think it's better to end it here."

"All right. Anubis. Please take care of the rest."

"Sure."

Nathan and the others left the golden court. Nathan gave the conclusion first. "There are three goals. First, infiltrate the Blood Town carefully and see if they have any information.

"The second goal is to maintain surveillance on the infected people, ensuring the damage is minimal.

"The third goal is to investigate the massacre of the soldiers of the Liaystian Kingdom."

Evelyn looked at Bella and the others. "Sonia and I will infiltrate the Blood Town. Bella and Neyeid will find out anything about the massacre in the Liaystian Kingdom. Christopher and Revon will maintain the surveillance."

"I don't want such a boring job." Revon complained. "In fact, why don't you maintain the surveillance, Captain? You have been supervising everything perfectly, so leave infiltration to me. I'm not good at infiltration, but I can protect Sonia well.

"As Nathan said, we have a lot of time, so we can proceed slowly but surely." Revon grinned.

"…" Evelyn glared at him.

"I don't think that's a bad idea." Bella nodded in agreement.
Stay connected with empire

Evelyn was surprised that her childhood friend would actually agree with Revon instead of her.

Bella knew that Evelyn would have a hard time resisting the temptation of finding the truth, so the risk would just increase if she was the one doing it. Besides, if the enemies realized she was still alive, it would create an even bigger problem for them.

"Besides, you are going to help our little guy, right?" Bella pointed at Nathan. "You should stay on the base like usual."

"I—" Evelyn wanted to say something, but Nathan interjected. "Anyway, I'm done with my jobs. I'll get some rest first. Tell me and send me back once Anubis is done."

Nathan seemed to have the same opinion. That was why he distracted Evelyn by shifting her focus back to him. If Nathan ended up not cooperating with them, she might not be able to find more clues about those culprits.

It was as if Nathan were telling her, 'You just focus on them, and I won't care about it anymore,' while pouting.

"…" Evelyn clenched her fists. With so much pressure on her, Evelyn had no other choice. "Fine."

"That's good." Bella smiled, satisfied.

With the meeting concluded, Neyeid was the first one to leave. He didn't go out to procure more food. Instead, he went to Nathan instead.

Neyeid had an awkward expression when he looked at Nathan, who was relaxing on the couch.

Neyeid clenched his hands into fists but soon relaxed them back as if he had made a decision. He lowered his head. "I'm sorry. Everything was my fault. I didn't doubt your ability, but I shouldn't have doubted your decision. Even now, I admit that I still couldn't see your loyalty to the group, but you still worked for the sake of the group.

"That was why I'd like to apologize."

Even if Nathan didn't have the same loyalty, he was still working for the group. He could doubt Nathan's loyalty, but not Nathan's decision. That was his mistake.

Even though Evelyn decided to shoulder that responsibility, he still had to apologize for his mistake.
