Chapter 24: The Empire's Gaze
The Yunqin Empire, Imperial Palace
As one of the three major human factions in Yunzhou, the Yunqin Empire boasts a population of over a hundred million. Over the centuries, the empire has implemented sweeping reforms, strengthening its power and gradually outpacing the surrounding yellow-tier races.
The majestic Imperial Palace stands at the heart of Yun Capital. At this moment, in the Imperial Study, Emperor Qin Yongjun sat at his desk, carefully reviewing memorials. Suddenly, the door was flung open, and a lively young woman of around eighteen rushed in with excitement.
"Father, I'm back!"
Emperor Qin looked up and smiled when he saw his daughter. "Oh? Snow, weren't you with your second brother on the inspection tour? Why are you back so soon?"
The girl, Qin Xue, the youngest princess of the empire, was as fair as snow, with bright eyes and a radiant smile.
She pouted slightly. "I'm back because I bring important intelligence!"
"Intelligence? Let me see it."
Qin Xue immediately took out a crumpled letter from the pouch at her waist. "Here, it's from Second Brother."
"Real intelligence, you say?"
Slightly surprised, Emperor Qin took the letter and unrolled it. After reading for a moment, his brows furrowed in thought.
Qin Xue, curious, asked, "Father, is that man really that strong? Does he make you feel so troubled?"
Emperor Qin paused, clearly caught off guard. "You knew about this?"
He quickly realized that, knowing his daughter's nature, she had likely sneaked a peek.
"This person has caused quite the stir. Even the Elves have been alerted. This is something I did not expect," said Qin Yongjun.
Qin Xue snorted. "He's just the king of a small vassal state, and a washed-up one at that."
"Father needn't worry. Just give me three thousand soldiers, and within a month, I'll bring this little king back!"
Emperor Qin chuckled softly.
"Snow, stop being reckless. This man is not to be underestimated. Even Li Haotian's ten thousand elite soldiers couldn't handle his mere two hundred men. He must have some real skill."
Seeing his daughter's defiant look, he teased, "I've heard this man has a nasty temper and likes to abduct innocent women. You're so cute and innocent. If you go, I'm afraid you might not return..."
"What?!"
Qin Xue's face turned red with fury. "He has such tastes? I won't let him off!"
It seems that Ronald's brash words had been wildly exaggerated, turning him into a notorious woman-snatcher. Even the Emperor had heard of it. It would be interesting to see what Ronald thought upon hearing the rumors.
Emperor Qin laughed heartily. "Go on, go see your mother! And call for Li Boshui while you're at it."
Knowing her father was just teasing her, Qin Xue huffed with a pout, turning to leave the Imperial Study.
Once she was gone, Emperor Qin's expression grew serious. He lightly tapped the table three times. In the blink of an eye, a shadow flashed across the room.
A figure cloaked in black knelt before the Emperor.
"Go to Dongshan City in the Day and Moon Kingdom. Investigate what exactly caused the explosion and find out where Ronald obtained all those armors and weapons."
The shadow nodded, disappearing in an instant.
Moments later, a handsome young man entered the room.
"Li Boshui, at Your Majesty's service."
"Rise," Emperor Qin motioned, then pointed to the letter on the table. "This is the confidential report brought by Princess Xue. Take a look."
"Thank you, Your Majesty."
Li Boshui rose, respectfully took the letter, and after reading for a moment, smiled. "Your Majesty, I've heard that Ronald has a weak character, incapable of accomplishing great deeds. But from what I see here, the rumors were clearly wrong."
"Indeed, I once thought so myself, which is why I allowed Li Haotian to initiate the coup. But now, it seems I've made a mistake."
