Chapter 39: Plundering the Tribe
"Shipbuilding technology is incredibly practical. With the camp located near the Yun Cang River, having shipbuilding tech would allow us to travel downstream, making everything easier. As for hydroponics, it goes without saying—it's a tool for rapidly accelerating plant growth.
As for the follower cards... well, with the two I've gained from completing tasks, I now have four. The camp is in dire need of manpower, so they'll come in handy.
Item cards, just like tech cards, offer a random item once used. It's all about luck—sometimes you end up with something useful, sometimes you get nothing but scrap metal, and that's worthless.
'Let's give the shipbuilding tech to Ah Qiang. I'll keep the hydroponics tech for now, need to think it over.'
Ronald took a sip of tea, then said, 'System, I want to use an item card.'
Ding! "Host has used an item card, randomly obtaining: Spaceship Energy Core."
"Spit!" Ronald choked on his tea.
"An energy core?! Wow, I must be getting lucky today."
The spaceship energy core was a rare and expensive item in the Ring World. As the name suggested, it powered spaceships, providing a stable, continuous energy source—a technology that far surpassed the industrial era. Currently, their base couldn't produce it. The ten energy cores they had were obtained by defeating the mechanical race.
Ding! "Host used an item card, randomly obtaining: Simple Automatic Machine Gun Tower."
"Nice, nice, today's luck is on point."
Ding! "Host, you have become the lord and can now check the loyalty of all the people in your territory."
Ding! "Second task issued: Increase the population of your territory to 3,000 within 90 days. Completing the task rewards: 2 Follower Cards, 2 Item Cards, 2 Tech Cards, and 20,000 silver. Failure will result in annihilation."
"Annihilation again? Can I refuse?"
Ding! "Host does not have sufficient authority to refuse this task."
Ronald smiled wryly. "Alright, I get it. By the way, how many people are in my territory now?"
"Current population of your territory is 1,103."
"Just over a thousand?" Ronald paused, thinking. "Didn't I capture prisoners? With the villagers, that should add up to around 2,500."
The system responded: "Only those with loyalty above 60 are counted as part of the territory's population."
"Ah…"
Ring World Space, Day 4.
The expeditionary force had reached their destination.
Clad in armor, holding a Hunter-Orion assault rifle, and a large machete at his waist, Ronald crouched in the dense forest, observing the nearby tribe of over a hundred people. He signaled to Cui Huan.
Boom!
The mortar in front of Cui Huan fired with a dull roar. A shell flew in a perfect arc, landing in the tribe's camp and instantly igniting a wooden house.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Kai Xuan and Ah Zhi fired mortars again, sending the area up in flames.
To force the people out, Ronald used incendiary bombs. The tribespeople screamed and scattered in all directions. Seeing this, Ronald yelled, "Open fire!"
Rat-tat-tat!
Four advanced rifles unleashed a barrage of gunfire, and several tribesmen fell to the ground. Since he had instructed the colonists to capture prisoners alive, they aimed for legs instead of heads—unless their luck was bad, they shouldn't die immediately.
After shooting down over a dozen, the tribe began to fight back. Powerful archers launched arrows, and a group of 70-80 warriors wielding various cold weapons charged toward them.
But the tribe's people were no match for the advanced equipment of the colonists. Some elites were already in the Body Refining Realm, but their arrows couldn't penetrate the high-tech gear of the colonists, let alone Ronald's fully armored suit.
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
Bullets tore through the forest like fire dragons, cutting down the tribesmen in waves before they could even get close. Within just 15 minutes, the tribe was decimated. More than half of them were dead, and the rest scattered, unable to mount any effective resistance.
With a shout, Ronald led the colonists in pursuit. "Quick, tend to the wounded! Keep them alive!"
The goal of this expedition was to capture people, not let them die.
Thirty minutes later, light rain began to fall. The flames slowly extinguished, and the wooden houses smoldered. After gathering over 30 captives, Ronald began looting the spoils.
As expected, the tribe was poor. The warehouse was full of dried meat and a small amount of herbs, but aside from that, there was nothing of value.
Ronald stared at the warehouse filled with dried meat and asked, "System, how much silver do I need to bring a portion of dried meat out of the space?"
Ding! "Dried meat is a Stone Age item, and the host can bring it out at its original price. One portion of dried meat is worth 1 silver."
"Cui Huan, bring the livestock and pack everything up. Also, see if there are any silver mines nearby. If there are, mine them all before we leave!"
