Chapter 40: Winter Survival Supplies
Day 8. The expeditionary force returned to the base, and Ronald swiftly sold off the prisoners with poor attributes. He also cleared out the spoils from the previous battle with the Hunter Fleet, making a tidy profit.
Suddenly, the base's silver supply surged to 100,000, easing the financial strain considerably.
Looking at the piles of silver in the warehouse, Ronald finally let out a sigh of relief.
Two days later, Ronald felt a sharp darkness followed by a flash of light, and his consciousness returned to his original body.
This wasn't the camp, but the secret cave shrouded in fog—his private base. He had strictly ordered that no one was to approach, except for his colonists.
He had brought back a substantial haul: over ten thousand dried meat cakes, thousands of winter coats and blankets, and large quantities of food.
But the real surprise was the three new colonists—two men and a woman, all hunters at the Body Refining Stage. The woman, Bai Yang, had reached the second level of Body Refining.
However, the highlight of his trip was something far more extraordinary: a Knocker Beast, or as it was known on the Tianheng Continent, a Unicorn.
This rare spiritual beast was almost impossible to tame. It was powerful, long-lived, and extremely difficult to find in the desolate regions of the continent.
The snow-white unicorn, named Tā Xuě (Snow Walker), wasn't yet fully grown, but its strength had already reached the terrifying sixth level of Body Refining. Ronald had spent 20,000 silver to bring it out of the space. Not only could it serve as a mount, but also as a bodyguard. It was a true treasure, perfect for impressing others.
Riding the unicorn inside the cave, Ronald couldn't help but smile, feeling the soft sensation beneath him. "With this unicorn, getting a girl is a breeze. Maybe I'll send one to Mengyu next time..."
Realizing what he had said, Ronald chuckled and shook his head.
The cave was now filled with his new recruits, A-Qiang, and Cuihua.
"You five, give me a hand and unload everything we brought back."
With the fog blocking the way, only Ronald and his closest colonists could enter this secret place.
At the base, Liu Long and the others stared at the massive pile of supplies. "Young Master, with all this food and winter clothing, we won't have to worry about the winter anymore!"
Ronald nodded. "Divide the food into three parts: the soldiers get the nutrition packs, and the villagers get the regular rations."
Liu Long hesitated before asking, "What about the goblins?"
Ronald thought for a moment. "They'll get limited rations of dried meat cakes. As long as they don't starve, it's fine. But those who perform well can have more. Those who slack off will go hungry."
"Understood!"
After a brief pause, Liu Long quietly asked, "Your Majesty, what should we do about the two prisoners?"
"Hmm, those two…"
Ronald mysteriously pulled a small cloth bag from his chest and whispered something in Liu Long's ear.
Liu Long's eyes widened in surprise. After listening, he grinned and said, "With this, we won't have to worry about them disobeying."
After Liu Long left, Fan Qingyue, who had been standing nearby, curiously asked, "Your Majesty, what were you and Old Liu talking about? It seemed so secretive."
Ronald laughed heartily but didn't answer. Instead, he said, "Qingyue, get someone to distribute the coats and blankets. Make sure everyone gets one."
"What about the prisoners?"
"As for the prisoners, it depends on their performance…"
"Understood, Young Master!"
Fan Qingyue replied and turned to leave, but Ronald called her back.
He pointed to the three new recruits. "Qingyue, these three are Bai Yang, Wang Li, and Wang Hong. Like A-Qiang and the others, they've been secretly trained by me. They're responsible for intelligence work. You should get to know them; you'll likely be working together often."
Fan Qingyue nodded at the three colonists standing behind Ronald and greeted them warmly.
