Chapter 641: Chapter 642: Venom's Evolution
"An esteemed Saiyan graces us with his presence. Apologies for the lack of a proper welcome!" Nick Fury said with a smile, glancing at the shattered window. "I've been wanting to invite a Saiyan to discuss some matters, but never found the opportunity. I didn't expect you to come in person today..."
"You have a way to contact Carol, right? Get in touch with her," Robert said bluntly, not interested in small talk.
Upon arriving, Robert had carefully examined Nick Fury's aura, finding no changes from before. This ruled out the possibility that Fury had been replaced by a Skrull midway. However, Robert wasn't entirely sure if the Nick Fury he first met was the real one or a Skrull, given Fury's unique position. It matched the profile the Martian Hunter had described: someone without superpowers but with significant influence. Hence, Robert remained vigilant.
"Carol?" Fury was momentarily taken aback. Realizing that Robert had no intention of explaining, Fury understood that with Robert's power, he didn't need to explain anything. Fury had no right to refuse either.
Considering the strength of Robert, neither SHIELD nor any official organization, or even the entire Earth, could withstand him. Even utilizing the imperfectly researched Space Stone wouldn't suffice.
So, Fury nodded and took out the quantum pager to try and contact Carol while explaining, "I previously called Carol, but we had some misunderstandings. She didn't want to confront you, so I'm not sure if she'll respond... Hmm? Call failed? Did she block me? Is that even possible?"
Fury's eyes flashed with hesitation as he looked at the words displayed on the pager, unsure of the situation.
While Fury stared at the pager, Robert observed his every move. He didn't notice anything unusual about Fury, who genuinely seemed unaware of Carol's predicament.
Yes, Robert was now certain something had happened to Carol, likely connected to the Skrulls. Robert knew Carol's strength; she was even more powerful than Diana. If the Skrulls could target her, even using underhanded tactics, it indicated they had formidable members among them.
"I just hope Carol is alright. The universe is vast, and even Clark couldn't find Carol or the Skrulls' location..." Robert thought helplessly. "Unless we capture another Skrull and obtain their coordinates, these guys are too well-hidden!"
"Shh!" Robert disappeared, leaving Fury, who had just recovered from his shock, staring blankly at where Robert had been. Fury couldn't understand Robert's purpose, unless it was to get his office window replaced?
"Wait! Was he trying to determine if I could still contact Carol? If not, would he target me? No, with his power, he wouldn't need to leave to kill me. He could do it right here... So what's going on?" Fury thought, shivering, then shook his head, dismissing his theory.
Unable to figure out Robert's intentions, Fury had no choice but to set the matter aside. Given SHIELD's current strength, overthinking was pointless. Robert could annihilate the entire agency with a casual energy blast, leaving few survivors...
"When will SHIELD have such power?" Fury sighed, muttering, "We finally got a Hulk, and now he's out of commission. The Avengers aren't rogue, but can Tony Stark really manage such powerful beings? He can't even control himself!"
"Colson!" Fury suddenly called out, and Colson immediately entered, cautiously surveying the office. Seeing Robert gone, he relaxed and carefully closed the door.
"Stop pretending. After the Tesseract incident, your attitude toward the Avengers changed dramatically. What are you playing at?" Fury said impatiently.
"Heh, I just think they're not so different from us. They're protecting Earth in their own way, and doing a better job at it, even if they sometimes overstep. Don't we overstep too?" Colson replied with a soft laugh.
"That's different! We're official..." Fury's eyes widened in anger, ready to argue, but he sighed and waved his hand. "Check on the progress of the Hulk clone research. If Banner still can't transform, let him relax and observe his movements quietly. See if he's doing it on purpose."
"I understand." Colson nodded, turning to leave.
"You used to have more tact!" Fury knocked on the table, dissatisfied.
"Yes, sir. I'll have the maintenance team replace your window immediately," Colson replied, glancing at the broken window, then left, causing Fury to roll his eyes.
"Sigh..." After Colson left, Fury sighed again, thinking, "Colson has seen Skrull and Kree ships, but the Tesseract incident changed his mindset. Experiencing such catastrophic power firsthand is scarier than hearing about it..."
Meanwhile, Robert didn't return to the Avengers' base, knowing Tony Stark and others were studying the Skrull's corpse. He decided to go home and wake Kara, informing her about Carol.
Robert chose not to tell the Danvers about Carol, as they weren't part of the supernatural world. But he had to tell Kara, giving her a heads-up. Kara knew about Carol and the Skrulls' relationship...
At the Kent Farm's new house, Robert woke Kara and told her about the Skrulls and Carol.
"How could this happen?! Is Carol really in trouble?" Kara woke up instantly, looking at Robert with worry.
Though Kara didn't have deep feelings for Carol like Alex did, she had bonded with Carol during her visits. As a fellow superpowered being, Kara had grown fond of her. Naturally, Kara didn't want anything bad to happen to Carol, which would hurt the Danvers and Alex...
"With Carol's strength, she might not be in serious trouble, but her situation isn't good..." Robert shook his head. "We can only wait for the Skrulls to expose themselves. They must have plans on Earth. They wouldn't just replace people to live their lives."
"Can't you detect disguised Skrulls?" Kara asked hesitantly.
"If it's someone I know, I might sense something off. But unless I encounter enough Skrulls to familiarize myself with their abilities and remember their aura, I can't easily see through their disguises..." Robert shook his head. Sensing ki was powerful, but it required experience.
Even if someone had the same ki sensing ability as Robert, they might not notice the clown's ki was off.
"So, to prepare for the Skrulls' plot, you need to train harder!" Robert held Kara, speaking seriously.
"I understand!" Kara nodded earnestly, feeling a sense of crisis and knowing she had to work harder.
Encouraged by Robert, Kara began her rigorous training, even neglecting school. For Kara, the best way to improve was to bask in the sun, so she flew after the sun, changing course only near Europe...
Elsewhere, Clark soon learned about the Skrulls. Robert warned him to be cautious when interacting with others as Superman. Even if the Martian Hunter's intel said there were no Super-Skrulls on Earth, Robert thought it best to be cautious...
Robert doubted the so-called Super-Skrulls could perfectly replicate abilities without contact. If they could, they would have already conquered the universe. Why else would they flee to Earth seeking refuge?
So, the biggest concern was Clark. Even if someone copied Robert's powers, he was confident in defeating them. But Clark was another matter, especially if there were multiple Super-Skrulls...
"We might be able to fix Venom's flaws with this genetic material..." Meanwhile, the Avengers' base made new progress. Though they hadn't found a way to prevent Skrull impersonation, they discovered something related to Venom.
Tony Stark and the Martian Hunter found that Skrull genes were highly active and moldable. This could help Venom evolve, allowing it to discard its weaknesses to fire and sound...
Soon, Tony Stark's experiment succeeded. The green skin flashed within Venom's body, instantly assimilated, allowing Venom to shed its weaknesses and become a flawless symbiote.
"Great! Peter, I feel so light! I've never felt this free before. Though my power didn't increase, without this weakness, I can evolve perfectly!" Venom, now evolved, danced excitedly, making Peter Parker rub his head helplessly, unwilling to admit the dance was his creation.
"Alright, get lost now. We've finally completed a project. I wonder if the Skrull trait can help vampires and werewolves fix their flaws too," Tony Stark said, waving dismissively at Venom's dancing form, his eyes glinting as he looked at the dissected Skrull body.
"This is really good stuff. If we had more Skrull bodies, I might create something even greater, like bionic combat robots based on their abilities."
"One step at a time. Catching another Skrull would indeed be beneficial. You could continue your research, and we could gather more valuable intel..." The Martian Hunter's eyes flashed, speaking softly.
