Supernatural: The Huntsman.

Chapter 30: Bullets

"How are we supposed to fight something like that?" Hailey asked hugging Ben tightly "Our gear is gone, and how are we supposed to make fire? The forest is too damp!" She added looking at Alexander with worry.

Sam added. "That's exactly why I can't understand how you got away from it."

"Oh! Maybe if you tell us how you escaped. We can use it if we run into the monster so we don't get taken." Hailey suggested.

Sam agreed, looking at Alexander waiting for his explanation.

"I could but I don't think it'll be taking anyone anytime soon. And doing what I did isn't really a great idea. It was very reckless and dangerous. I got luck." Alexander said awkwardly.

"What do you mean?" Pressed Sam, unwilling to let the matter go.

Alexander saw that the group wasn't satisfied with his answer and was not going to leave the subject alone until he explained himself. So he obliged, "Fine. I'll tell you." He sighed.

" For starts, I didn't manage to 'get away' as you think. The wendigo ran away."

"What?" Sam exclaimed a little stunted by Alexander's claim.

"Yeah, I shot at it a few times, and then it ran away?" Alexander vaguely explained with a causal shrug yet a hint of disappointment in his tone.

"Wait—you shot it, and it ran? That doesn't make sense." Sam exclaimed confused.

"What can I say that's what happened." Alexander shrugged.

"Didn't Sam say guns have no effect on them?" Hailey questioned equally confused.

"Yeah, they shouldn't… They don't." Sam answered but his eyes gleamed with uncertainty.

"Well no, that's not entirely correct." Alexander corrected. "When you were arguing with Roy early, your exact words were 'That rifle of yours will do nothing but piss it off'. So I assumed that if guns pisses it off then the monster must feel the shots to an extent. That meant if I wanted to do some damage I had to aim for places on the body that needed to be soft and weak." Alexander explained. " I managed to shoot it in the eye and in the throat before it ran off in pain. Guess it has never felt pain before or something." Alexander kissed his teeth. " But it was lucky for me because with the last shot, I had to stick the gun in its mouth and I guess its teeth cracked the barrel so maybe if it had stayed I wouldn't be here." Alexander recounted, presenting the rifle to show the cracks.

Hailey carefully brushed his arm to comfort him.

Sam stood speechless, his gaze fixed on Alexander 'it's not that no one thought of aiming for those areas but that no one ever stopped to even consider it. It would be like trying to hit a golf ball moving at 30mph. Almost impossible for anyone.'

Seeing that no one was talking Hailey raised, "Well if we can't do what you did. What should we do then?"

Everyone looked at Alexander waiting to hear what their next move should be. Sam couldn't think of any idea that would work against the creature at this moment. Under their expectant gazes, Alexander stood in contemplation. His face was stiff in deep concentration, his eyes focused yet darted around in a desperate search for inspiration in the silent forest, the reddening sunlight on the forest like the deadliest ticking clock.

'Thanks to my senses I have a way to track it down but I don't know how to deal with it after we meet.' Alexander groaned. 'I'd rather not have to be bait again. Cause I'm not surviving a second encounter like that?'

He was so deep in thought he momentarily forgot himself loosening his grip on the rifle and dropping it on the ground.

The sudden thud of the gun against the floor nudged him out of his concentration. He looked down to see the bloodied gun and chuckled self-deprecatingly at his behaviour. He bent to pick it up. 'Why am I still carrying this? The barrel is broken it's practically useless now. The only good thing is it might help deter the Wendigo. But right now it might also well be an overcomplicated bullet cas-' suddenly an idea sparked in his mind. He quickly picked up the rifle and announced to all, "I have an idea."

"What is it?" Sam asked intrigued.

Alexander paused to think over his idea his brows pinched with uncertainty.

Alexander looked up and caught a glimpse of the orange-red sky peeking through the canopies, reminding him of the time, "We have no time to talk. Right now we need to move." Alexander said breaking the circle and hastily walking past Sam stopping just before re-entering the deep forest and turned to the group. "Guys come on, hurry. We need to get going, time isn't on our side." He called to the siblings.

Hailey and her brother upon hearing the agency in his voice quickly walked past Alexander and into the forest. Sam still wanting answers was unsatisfied but understood that time was of the essence. So he walks into the forest too, only to be stopped by Alexander pushing something into his chest. Sam reached to receive it, his eyes shrunk in shock, he immediately pulled out his gun and examined the bottom to find that indeed his magazine was missing. Alexander had just now handed him his gun clip. Sam inserted the clip into his gun and gave Alexander a look of discontent. Alexander just shrugged and chuckled, "What? Did you think I would actually hand a loaded weapon to someone that aimed their gun at me?"

Looking at his weapon, Sam knew that had he still tried something after receiving the gun back then, they would be having a completely different conversation.

The two shared a brief moment of silence, no words were said but the message was received loud and clear. Alexander was placing his trust in Sam and should Sam break that trust. There would be no second.
