Chapter 703: Heading South

After conquering the duchy town, there were still five more towns to go. However, Nox and the Vermilion soldiers weren't in too much of a hurry because—

BOOM!

A giant frozen wave of water smashed into the walls of the second-largest town in the entire northern region of the Vermilion Kingdom.

The one in charge of taking over this town was Adrian himself, and he had taken some soldiers as well—a mixture of human and undead.

Beside him was Nyx, who wielded a radiant holy sword, a cold gleam in her eyes.

Adrian's single attacks caused spiderweb cracks through the walls of the town. However, a frown appeared on his face, as this was not the result he was hoping for.

"Wait, let me try this," Nyx spoke as she stepped forward.

"Sure." Adrian shrugged, stepping back for the Valkyrie.

Nyx stretched her hand forward, channeling her holy energy into her palm. Unlike normal classes, the Valkyries could manipulate their energy into solid holy weapons.

Under Adrian's curious gaze, a spear over three meters long, its tip glinting with radiant power, appeared in Nyx's hand. She wrapped her fingers tightly around the spear, took a step back—

FWOOOSH!

Swoosh!

BANG!

She launched the spear. It whistled through the air and struck the walls.

Upon impact, a thunderous sound echoed as the walls of the city trembled. The cracks caused by the prior water attack began to expand, and then—

BOOM!

The front part of the wall collapsed, revealing a horde of demons on the other side.

"Kill them!" the lead demon, who was at the Expert Rank, shouted fiercely.

However, if one had paid close attention, they'd have noticed his voice carried a faint undertone of anxiety.

'The portal here closed a few days back, the west got taken over, and now these people… are they the ones responsible for all this misfortune lately?'

The frown on the demon lord deepened. He didn't think this was coincidence!

In the third town, the ones leading the charge were Aina and Akira—and it was safe to say this town was the fastest one to claim.

Thanks to the demons' natural weakness to holy attacks, the two Valkyries obliterated all the demons in their path without even breaking a sweat.

Seeing Akira's fighting style, Aina couldn't help but comment. "You fight like someone I used to know."

"Huh?" the Valkyrie Princess paused.

"Someone you used to know?" she asked, her eyes narrowing.

"Yup. But I've been away for too long—I doubt you'll know her." Without saying another word, Aina dashed forward, leaving Akira standing there with a slightly confused look on her face.

"Someone she used to know?" Akira's eyes flashed sharply. She had an idea of who Aina might be referring to.

'Even after she learned that I was a princess, she didn't ask any questions, respecting my privacy.' She mumbled to herself, eyes gleaming with determination. 'After this entire invasion, I'll tell her about mother.'

After the duchy fell—with the combined efforts of Cromwell's Awakened, the Vermilion Kingdom soldiers, the ants, dragons, and demonic undead army—the north was conquered in a single day!

And as usual, all the citizens were transferred to the Cromwell Barony.

It was at first difficult for them to adapt, but remembering the suffering they went through at the hands of the demons, they didn't hesitate to make themselves feel at home.

Currently, a meeting was being held in the large tent which acted as the war room.

All the elites of the Barony were present.

"Now that we have conquered the north, our next course of action will be the south!" Nox said, pacing around out of habit. He looked at Ria, who nodded and stood up.

"The south is without a doubt the smallest region, followed by the east," she explained. "However, small doesn't mean it's easy to conquer."

"Why is that?" Nox asked. He had never been to the South. His entire life, he had only been in the western and eastern regions where the capital was located.

It was Nathan who replied this time.

"The south is made up of several rivers. Most of the towns there are surrounded by water," Nathan explained, his expression serious as he leaned over the war map. "It's naturally fortified and hard to invade."

"Well, we have dragons," Nox spoke smugly and thought about Celestis, then added, "Water dragons. Besides, the water should be a big advantage for Adrian."

"You're right. The dragons can give us aerial advantage," Ria nodded as she proceeded to explain. "However, just like the way it was in the North—where most of the demons possessed frost attacks—I have suspicions that something similar will occur there as well."

"You mean water magic?" Nyx asked from her seat, her fingers tapping lightly on the table.

She recalled facing an ice demon. Even though his attacks had been concealed by miasma, she couldn't forget that chill!

"Exactly," Ria nodded. "I suspect the southern region is heavily infested by demons who possess either water or related affinities. Maybe even both."

"Either water or related affinities… like poison, or maybe even corrosion?" Nyx asked grimly. "If that's the case, we'll need to outfit our soldiers with resistance gear."

"That won't be needed," Eve spoke, drawing everyone's attention. "My undead army is immune to all poison. They can even fight in water if it comes to that."

"Even underwater?" Serana asked meekly.

Eve nodded. "They don't breathe, remember? They also don't feel pain, and their coordination improves when directed by me. If the enemy relies heavily on water terrain, I'll make sure that becomes our strength instead."

"That's reassuring," Nathan commented. "That means no need for human soldiers… This invasion will be headed by Eve, Nox, and Adrian, while the rest remain here and protect the Barony!"

There was a look of disappointment in the eyes of some of those present when they realized it would be only Eve, Nox, and Adrian advancing. But none raised an objection.

They understood the importance of balance—if they left the Barony unguarded, the enemy might exploit that opening.

Besides, the three of them were arguably the strongest assets they had. With Adrian's devastating water attacks, Nox's unpredictable skills, and Eve's unkillable undead legion, the southern region would be reduced to rubble before the demons could even organize a proper defense.
