Chapter 702: Conquering the North [1]
The chilling wind howled across the streets of the duchy town. Blood stained the snow, and demon corpses littered the area like discarded trash.
Nox stood alone above the battlefield, his wings folding behind him, while below, Jack and Ria continued to lead the army against the remaining demon horde.
But Nox had already set his eyes on the real prize.
"They're coming…" he whispered.
Not even a second later, the air trembled.
BOOM!
The sky split apart as two terrifying figures shot forward like comets. They landed atop a crumbling tower not far from Nox, sending out a shockwave of cold that froze a dozen nearby demons solid.
The woman had sharp crimson eyes, her long obsidian hair tied in a high ponytail, and wore dark armor. Her presence was suffocating.
Beside her was the male demon—broad-shouldered, cloaked in a thick fur-lined coat, with dark horns curled back like a ram's. His fists were wrapped in chains that pulsed with demonic energy.
When they first saw the person who had killed both Lokan and Goro, a look of shock crossed their faces.
"You're the one who killed Lokan and Goro?" the woman asked, her voice carrying a hint of disbelief and anger.
The male demon lord scanned around and frowned. "He's the only level 100 here, so it's definitely him."
"How is that..." the demoness was at a loss for words.
All the while, Nox said nothing. He merely adjusted his grip on Glacier's End and lowered himself slightly, his knees bending.
The male demon cracked his neck. "I don't care what you are. You'll die here."
"I've heard those words before," Nox muttered. "Countless times. I can't even remember."
The air froze.
The female snapped her fingers, and instantly, the atmosphere turned black. A blizzard made out of demonic miasma whipped through the battlefield.
However, even before it could touch Nox, he activated Phantom Cloak and vanished.
The male's eyes widened.
"Teleportation! Dammit!" he spat, unaware that the enemy had merely turned invisible.
Suddenly—
CRACK!
Ice erupted beneath his feet. Nox popped out of thin air and slammed his knee into the demon's gut, sending him flying through a building.
BANG! BOOOM!
The female turned and launched dozens of purple flame daggers with a screech. They arced mid-air, homing toward Nox like heat-seeking missiles.
Tapping into his first element, a dome of spinning ice petals spiraled into place, blocking every incoming strike. The daggers shattered on impact, the explosion lighting up the sky briefly before fading into cold mist.
The female didn't hesitate. She zoomed toward him, claws bared, leaving a trail of black frost behind.
Nox's eyes narrowed as he snapped his fingers, and instantly, the ground exploded with massive frozen spikes, shooting upward in a circle. She barely dodged the spikes, which had the intent to skewer her.
"Crimson Thorns!" she screamed, slamming her fists together.
Blood-red vines made of miasma burst from the air, wrapping around Nox's arms and legs.
She grinned. "Let's see you dodge now—!"
But then the vines cracked.
Then shattered.
And her eyes widened as a deeper, colder aura burst forth from Nox's body.
"Your frost is weak," he said calmly. "Absolute Zero Field."
A pulse of light-blue energy radiated from him.
Everything within twenty meters instantly froze—air, snow, even time itself seemed to slow. The woman's body stiffened as her wings stopped flapping.
This… this was the power of an ultimate skill! And in terrain like the northern region, its effect was even more frightening!
Nox blurred and appeared right in front of her, then slashed upward with his sword.
The explosion of cold was so fierce it sliced the very clouds apart. Her body was flung backward like a ragdoll, crashing into an old building.
Just then, the male demon burst out of the rubble with a roar, eyes glowing with fury.
"You bastard!" he charged. "I'LL CRUSH YOU!!"
"Tsk." Nox clicked his tongue and raised a hand. A giant translucent spear, glowing faintly with divine ice energy, formed midair.
He threw it.
BOOM!!!
The spear pierced through the air like a falling star. The male demon raised his arms to block—but the moment it touched him, it exploded.
"Aghhhhhh!"
His screams echoed across the battlefield as his entire left arm turned into brittle ice and snapped clean off.
Still, he stood his ground. Despite the pain, the demon roared and launched himself again.
"Brutal Rampage!"
He slammed into Nox like a meteor. The impact sent a shockwave that flattened buildings, cracked the earth, and created a crater beneath them.
Jack and Ria could feel the quake from where they were.
"Damn... what the hell is happening up there?!" Jack muttered, killing a demon with a lightning slash.
"Should we—?"
"No," Jack cut her off. "Just watch."
Back above—
The crater cleared, and the male demon stood panting, body steaming from the clash. Nox's figure was visible within the dust.
Apart from his clothes being torn and dark blood that didn't belong to him, he appeared visibly fine.
"I'll do you lot a favor and only use my ice element," Nox said.
The male demon's eyes widened. 'He had other skills? That meant he had been holding back all this while?'
Following Nox's words, twelve chains of frost erupted from the air, wrapping around the demon instantly.
The chains pulled tight.
CRACK!!!
The male demon's body was crushed, frozen solid, and shattered into a thousand pieces!
The woman, still coughing and bleeding from earlier, tried to crawl away—but Nox appeared behind her in an instant.
"No more running," he said coldly.
She looked up in fear. "Wait—please, don't kill me…"
"Now that you mentioned it, you might actually be helpful," Nox said, and the demoness's eyes lit up.
"Yes! I'm very he—"
BANG!
She wasn't able to finish her words as Nox knocked her unconscious. Without hesitation, he cast Tame on her.
After establishing the link successfully, he transferred her inside the taming space.
After dealing with the demon lords, he went on to help Ria and Jack as well. Together, they eliminated every single demon and claimed the first town in the northern region!
