Chapter 227: A Short Fat Problem!
[A/N: And here comes day two of the Mass release event! Part 2/4 of today's Mass release! Here you go fellas! Big Shout out to Dirtydew!]
.....
Hugo strode forward with confidence, the lights from the party flashing across his sharp features as he approached Celine and her short, fat friend.
This was it.
This was the moment he had been waiting for.
With every step, he mentally prepared himself. He was about to enter the battlefield of social dynamics, and like any skilled tactician, he needed a game plan.
There was no room for hesitation.
No room for rookie mistakes.
As he got closer, he activated his Aura of Alpha.
He needed that extra boost. He instantly began to exude the natural confidence of a man who knew exactly what he was doing.
His shoulders squared.
His posture straightened.
His expression was relaxed but sharp... amused, but in control.
Then, he delivered his opening line. It had to be something smooth, funny, and just teasing enough to get both their attentions while setting the right tone for the interaction.
"You two look way too serious over here. This is a party, not a funeral. Who do I have to bribe to see a smile?"
It was playful but dominant, lighthearted but commanding.
Both Celine and her friend turned toward him.
Step one: Securing Attention? Done.
Now came the most important step.
Diffusing the obstacle!
Every man who had seriously studied the art of seduction knew that when approaching a beautiful woman in a social setting, you had to take into account her surroundings.
A woman was never alone. She always had an entourage with her. And within that entourage, there was always an obstacle.
In this case it was the short, fat friend.
Now, here's where most rookies messed up.
A rookie would see the obstacle as an enemy and try to ignore her or overpower her. An even dumber rookie would outright insult her, thinking that would impress the main girl.
But what did that do?
It made her defensive. It made her hostile.
It made her want to drag the main girl away and talk crap about the guy behind his back.
Hugo had seen it happen.
He had watched in real time as men lost their chances because they failed to properly diffuse an obstacle.
The correct strategy was neutralization.
The goal wasn't to defeat the obstacle.
The goal was to make them neutral.
Make them feel like they weren't being ignored but also weren't the center of attention.
Make them feel comfortable enough to lower their guard.
If done correctly, the obstacle would either become an ally or simply get bored and leave on their own.
It was a delicate art to master.
And Hugo was about to put it into action for the first time as well.
Celine smiled when she saw him.
"Hugo, right? You again," she teased.
Hugo grinned, about to push the conversation forward, when...
The obstacle moved first.
She crossed her arms and gave him a very unimpressed look.
Then she spoke.
"You're too short for our tastes."
…
For a moment, Hugo stood there in silence. A blank expression on his face.
Inside his mind, however...
'This shorty thinks she's the Queen of England??'
'She's acting like I was even trying to impress her in the first place!'
'And what's with this 'our' nonsense? Celine, blink twice if she's holding you hostage!'
Hugo's petty instincts screamed at him to fire back with something brutal.
One well-placed insult, and she'd be rethinking her entire existence.
But he held back.
Why?
Because Celine was right there. If he made her friend cry, she would leave. And if she left, Celine would feel obligated to follow her.
And if Celine left…
Game over.
He couldn't make such a rookie mistake.
So instead...
Hugo's expression didn't change.
Instead of getting defensive or offended, he just tilted his head slightly, his smirk growing wider.
Then, he spoke.
"Oh? You mean you and Celine, or just you?"
Instantly, the short girl flinched.
Celine burst into laughter.
And just like that, Hugo had flipped the power dynamic.
By questioning her use of "we," he had subtly implied that Celine might not even agree with her.
And worse—
He made it sound like the girl was the one making the decision for both of them.
Which put Celine in an awkward position. Would she agree with her friend? Or would she laugh it off and let it slide?
Celine chose the latter.
And that meant Hugo won the exchange!
Thus was complex conversationing!
Before the short friend could recover from that verbal attack, Hugo smoothly turned to Celine.
"Your cousin Collins didn't tell me you had such a strong-willed best friend," he teased.
Celine giggled. "Yeah, she's very protective."
Hugo took a small step closer to Celine. Close enough to make her notice, but not close enough to make her uncomfortable.
Then, with a smooth, confident tone, he asked...
"So, how about a dance?"
Celine tilted her head, pretending to think about it.
For a moment, Hugo thought he had won.

But then, the short girl cut in once again!
"Nope! She's not dancing with you."
Hugo internally cursed.
Of course.
He knew this would happen. The short girl wasn't just an obstacle. She was an active interference.
And that meant one thing. She wasn't going to leave Celine alone.
No, she was the type who would stick to Celine all night like a bodyguard.
And Hugo knew exactly what the problem was.
He didn't have a distraction for her.
If he had another guy to come over and take her attention, then Hugo could have Celine all to himself.
But right now?
It was just him.
One man against the final boss.
Hugo exhaled through his nose.
'What do I do now?'
