Chapter 26: Mischievous cat (26)
Sora went back to his everyday schedule after that—going to school, work, home, training, showering, studying, sleeping, rinsing, and repeating.
With that and the additional date with Rukia, all was fine.
This little scheme of his didn't require much time, nor did he plan on taking much of her time.
He kind of gave her space and freedom to live her life as she wanted, with him popping by once in a while to brighten her day—because why not?
It had been a while now.
Earlier today, she had asked him if he wanted to come to the show happening in town. He politely declined, though he did hope she enjoyed it.
His excuse was simple: he had work that day.
And sure, well, he worked that day. Once again, Urahara had him run the shop while he did something.
He did see Urahara on TV later that day, but oh well.
As he was sweeping around, he picked up something.
He turned his gaze toward a strange black cat.
Looking at the cat, Sora felt something off.
Though he didn't question it, the cat seemed to be familiar with the shop.
Taking some milk, he poured it into a bowl and offered it to the cat.
"Kisuke wouldn't mind. Worst-case scenario, he tries to get me to wear some weird outfit for more publicity."
As Sora said those words, he watched as the cat drank the milk.
However, for some odd reason, he could see a hint of mischief in the cat's eyes—a mischief that seemed to match his own.
"No collar," he muttered, looking at the cat. She probably didn't have a name.
"Meow."
"You like the milk?"
"Miaow."
"I'm really speaking to a cat now.
"Yes, you are," a male voice was heard saying….though to Sora it sounded female….
Sora looked around, confused. Huh, did someone just speak?
Looking down at the cat on his lap.
"Meow."
Wait, so if the cat didn't speak, who was that female voice he heard before? Spreading out his senses, he could sense every living and non-living thing inside of Karakura Town.
Huh... strange.
"Miaow."
"You want more milk?"
"Meow."
Standing up, he walked toward the nearby milk, all the while the cat was purring and snuggling close to him.
He wasn't sure why.
Taking out some more milk, he heated it up in the microwave for about 30 seconds. The milk was just right.
He then fed the cat some more, which she seemed to enjoy.
Though before he could react, the cat slammed her paw against the bowl, sending the majority of the milk onto the floor.
...
"Do you know how long it takes to clean this mess?"
"Meow."
"Of course you don't," he said, annoyed. Was he really speaking with a cat?
As he started cleaning the mess, he heard the cat once again.
"Meow."
She was behind a glass bottle, with this smug look on her face.
"Don't you dare..."
The next second, the cat pushed it with her paw, causing Sora to rush at full speed to save it.
He got there on time, managing to catch it.
The cat, however, was somewhere else.
For the next five or so minutes, he felt like he was being messed with. Deciding this was enough, he caught the cat by the nape—an area that made her unable to move.
He then put a princess outfit on her and painted her nails pink before deciding to just paint them black and give her a black outfit.
He even gave the cat a little hat.
The cat stared at him.
As she tried to claw his face, the little shoes that Sora had given her stopped her claws from reaching him.
"Who's a good kitty?" he said, giving the cat a light kiss.
"Meow."
For some reason, he could feel like this cat was planning a way to make him regret this—as if she was telling him he better sleep with one eye open.
As he turned around, holding the cat, he was met with Urahara.
The man looked at Sora, then at the dressed-up cat in his hand, and seemed to be holding back a burst of laughter.
"Sora-kun, what's that in your hand?" the man asked.
"A black cat came into the shop. I decided to feed her a bit. She was being mischievous, though, so I had to punish her a bit. See? I even dressed her up a bit. Doesn't she look adorable?"
Kisuke turned around for a second—what could be seen as him trying to hide the smirk on his face.
The cat did not look too pleased.
"Seems like Miss Yoruichi likes you," the man teased.
"Grr...rr." The cat practically growled. Well, damn.
"She is a good kitty," Sora said gently.
The sound of an alarm could be heard, and Sora, realizing it was time to clock out, placed the cat down.
"Don't miss me too much."
As he prepared to move, a voice was heard saying,
"I won't."
He stopped.
"Was it just me, or..." Sora swore he heard a voice. He gazed at the cat, who, well, just looked like a cat.
"You must be tired. Your mind is playing tricks on you," Urahara said with his usual smile.
He felt like he was being gaslit, but oh well.
"Maybe. Anyway, see ya."
And with that, Sora left.
"Who's a good kitty?" Urahara teased, looking at the black cat.
"Don't you dare start with this," the cat in question replied.
Urahara just smiled.
"What brings you to my humble abode?"
