Chapter 25: The date (25)
Time skip.
It was Sunday morning, and Sora got out of bed with a giddy look on his face. Today would be fun.
Uryu was probably out training again. At this rate, he was going to finally master Blut Vene. For some odd reason, he had never used Blut Vene like this until he saw how Sora spammed it in a fight.
It was a good move; it could allow someone to tank hits from an opponent they usually couldn't withstand.
Sora was lucky. He had worked on his body and reinforced his defense since he was young, so someone would have to really try to hurt him. And someone around his level would have to try hard to even get a drop of blood from him.
And even then, since he could harden his skin to be even tougher than steel, he was goochi. Though, this wasn't his business currently.
He wore an oversized grayish shirt alongside some baggy pants that matched the color, putting on a necklace that was given to him by Ryuken. Apparently, it was from his mother.
He put on his watch and slid on a ring, which was really a modified Ginto—you know, just in case he magically ran out of Reishi.
To finish the look, he grabbed a bag, a work backpack one might say, hanging it on his side.
Making his way toward where he felt her energy source, he arrived exactly where he got jumped last time.
As he got close, he saw her.
She was sitting gracefully on the bench, exuding an aura of confidence, yet he could feel her nervousness, even if she tried to hide it.
She wore a soft white blouse that showed her delicate lace-up design, detailed at the neckline, giving off a slightly romantic yet modern touch.
She also wore a black skirt—short yet modest—making sure not to reveal anything nor leave anything to the imagination.
Her skirt was paired with a unique garter strap that hinted at a slightly edgy sense of style, but oh well.
As for her choice of footwear, she wore sleek, high-shine black boots with intricate laces and sturdy buckles.
Slung casually over her shoulder was a small black bag.
To finish her look, she wore headphones, though it seemed like it was the first time she wore them and had just put them there for style.
Well, time to put on an act.
He was planning on seeing four blushes today. Let's see if he could meet his goal.
First things first, as he approached her, he gave her a gentle smile.
"Sorry if I made you wait too long."
"No need to worry, I just got here," she replied once again with that fake smile.
Sora wondered how much he had to do to see her real smile.
It wasn't fun to be mischievous if the other person was faking it.
"You look stunning."
As he said that, he added his usual trademark smile, his golden eyes shining with sincerity.
Upon seeing the look on her face—well, that was the first blush of the day.
Fun.
She seemed to be at a loss for words.
"You... like it…?"
"Yeah, it looks good on you. Now, shall we go enjoy our date?"
He gave her a warm smile, and she nervously nodded her head.
But something seemed to pass through her mind as the blush vanished, and a semi-serious look crossed her face, as if she was reminding herself that she was a Shinigami and falling in love with a human—or showing human emotions—was not something a good Shinigami like her should do.
Sora first took her to an amusement park, and her eyes seemed to absorb everything around her.
"Is this your first time here?"
"Yeah, I never actually came to a place like this."
"Oh, trust me, you're going to enjoy it."
Lots of sweets later and some carnival rides, but the haunted house did not scare her. Well, she was a Shinigami—oh well.
Though, he couldn't help but notice the way she glanced at the giant bunny plushie.
Without asking if she wanted it, he gave the man five dollars to enter.
He took out the toy gun and waited until all five of the targets were aligned.
He only had 0.5 seconds. When that moment came, he acted accordingly, and the bullet was fired.
The store owner watched in amazement as all five targets were pierced with one bullet.
"I'll take the bunny."
The man realized he couldn't really scam Sora, as a group of people gathered around after Sora had just gotten a hole-in-one.
Taking the bunny, he handed it over to Rukia.
"Here you go."
As Rukia took the bunny from his hand, she seemed, just for a second, to lose herself. The bunny felt so fluffy.
She couldn't stop the tinge of red blush on her face.
That was two.
Later on, Sora went to a nearby shop and ordered some food.
He ordered her a cucumber and Shiratama tempura.
He guessed that cucumber and Shiratama were foods she liked because Urahara told him. Now to see if he was telling the truth.
So, they were as good a guess as any.
As she ate the food, he could tell she liked it. So, Urahara was telling the truth—awesome.
Though she was still reluctant to reveal any information about where she was from, Sora could still feel Ichigo's Reiatsu from where he was.
The boy had been tailing them for a bit.
Something told him Rukia had him come along—oh well.
He didn't try to make a move like yawning and putting his arm around her—no, none of that.
He could still tell all of her defenses were up. She may have enjoyed the date, but she refused to let her guard down.
Sora, however, found it more fun. Plus, there was something about her that made him curious. A strange energy he felt when he was around her.
It wasn't Reishi nor Kishi, yet it felt so familiar—like a piece of something.
Well, he would have to get closer to figure it out.
Soon enough, as they were walking back, Sora looked at her and said,
"Would you like me to accompany you to your home?"
"NO!" she practically screamed out.
Sora was a bit confused. Upon looking at her face, he could see sheer embarrassment present on it.
Well, that was another blush.
But why such a drastic reaction? As if she was living inside someone's closet or something?
"Oh… I see. I apologize if I overstepped your boundaries." Damn, he was getting good at acting dejected.
Upon seeing the look on his face, she felt the need to clarify.
"No, it's not that, it's just…" She seemed to be thinking really hard about this.
Suddenly, a light bulb went off in her head.
"You see, my family is very traditional, and if they see me bring someone home, I'm afraid of what they will do to you."
"Oh, so you're worried about me? Well, I feel loved." His gentle expression never left his face.
"Guess this is goodbye then," he said, getting close.
As he got close to her, their faces were inches apart.
Her cheeks turned red. Wait, she had read something like this in books.
A date usually ends with a kiss, right? Was he leaning in to give her a kiss?
She was half-tempted to knock him out and make him believe they had kissed. However, currently, she felt a bit sleepy, so her movement would be sluggish.
Sora placed a small flower in her hair.
She opened her eyes when she realized she felt no kiss.
Sora was smiling as a flower could be seen in her hair.
"Tada, you look stunning now."
Wow, he was on a roll. The blushes kept on coming.
Before she could react, he gave her a kiss on the cheek and walked away, saying,
"See you tomorrow, Rukia-chan."
Rukia stood there, frozen. In shock, even.
Once Sora was out of sight, Ichigo walked closer to her.
"So, how was your date?"
Rukia suddenly regained her demeanor.
"It was fine, I guess."
"SUUUURE."
Ichigo didn't buy a word she said.
"Are you implying I enjoyed it?"
"I'm not implying anything. Do you think I should save this as my lock screen?" Ichigo teased, showing a picture of Rukia's frozen expression as Sora kissed her.
"Delete this."
"Make me."
Bakudō #4: Hainawa.
Yup. Rukia resorted to violence to get Ichigo to delete the evidence of her moments of weakness.
