Chapter 48: Ganju Shiba (48)
After Gin left, the people in the Rukongai finally came out and showed themselves. Sora couldn't help but notice how they looked—so this was where the souls that the Soul Reapers cleansed went.
This system seemed... unfair. The so-called balancer of the world worked under such an unjust system.
Sora analyzed the Reishi components in the water.
The very next second, in his hand, he held a bowl of water.
He walked around the place, giving some water to whoever wanted it.
This place was bad.
He had a somber look on his face as he observed the lives of the people here.
Gazing back at the Soul Society, he could tell almost everything that was happening inside—though there was some weird barrier that blocked his senses from seeing more.
However, since he had been able to let some of his Reiryoku inside the gate—something he did while Gin was busy trying to kill Ichigo—he could somewhat sense the situation within the Soul Society.
Soul Reapers were moving left and right. He had made sure to tell Yoruichi that the gate they had tried to enter had been reinforced.
Taking a deep breath.
"Sora, can you deconstruct the gate, making a hole small enough so that we can enter?" Yoruichi asked, still sitting comfortably on his head.
"Not without alarming everyone of our presence, and I don't know about you, but I'm not trying to have the whole Gotei 13 jumping me... Soul Reapers on Quincy is already high enough as it is," he said calmly.
"What other choice do we have?" Uryu asked, to which Yoruichi replied,
"If we cannot get in the normal way, we can always crash in from above."
Cool. Then she mentioned something about a Kukaku Shiba—apparently, that was the person they were going to meet.
Sora kind of just tuned out of the whole conversation. Sure, it was important, but none of his business, really.
He felt someone approaching the room and fluctuated the Reishi around his head a bit.
About ten seconds later, a man entered the room, riding a boar.
The man's name was Ganju.
...
He seemed to have quite a fiery personality.
Upon noticing Ichigo, the man's expression changed—like how the whites that came to America looked at the Native Americans. A better comparison would be how they looked at them if their daughter was dating one.
Or how Hitler looked at the Jews.
"What's a dirty Soul Reaper doing here? He's stinking up the place," Ganju spat.
So much hate—you'd think Ichigo killed his family or some shit.
However...
The very next second, the room became heavy. Ganju felt as if a massive weight was pressing down on him.
He couldn't even breathe. He saw his life flash before his eyes.
He could feel Sora's overwhelming spiritual pressure crushing down on him.
Two seconds later, the pressure stopped, vanishing as if it had never existed in the first place.
"So, are you ready to put aside your prejudice now, or would you like to experience that again?" Sora had a warm smile on his face as he said that.
The man gulped, his throat dry, before looking at Sora—then sending one final glare at Ichigo.
He couldn't even speak. The fear was too heavy. He just nodded his head.
"Your spiritual energy feels vaguely familiar to Ichigo," Sora muttered.
"Huh... as if I would ever be related to this guy," Ichigo scoffed, not really liking the fact that Sora implied they might be related.
"Who would want to be related to a dir— a Soul Reaper like you?" Ganju shot back, looking at Ichigo as if forgetting that just seconds ago, his soul was almost crushed because of this.
"What's your full name?" Sora asked, looking at the man.
"Ganju Shiba," Ganju replied, still sweating a bit. He had learned that this Quincy was not to be messed with.
"So, do you know someone by the name of Kukaku Shiba?" Sora asked with a polite smile.
The man's eyes glowed a bit.
"Yes... my elder sister."
"Kukaku Shiba is a woman?" Sora ignored the confused gazes of the two humans and his dumb cousin.
A tick mark appeared on Uryu's head... Huh, it seemed like his cousin had developed a second sense and could tell when Sora was talking shit.
Cool.
"Great, you won't have any trouble leading us, would you?"
"....N... No..."
Sora smiled a bit.
"Let's go then."
As they walked outside, the man sat on his boar. Usually, the animal was mischievous, but after the earlier burst of Reiatsu, it was calm and tame.
"You... can... hop on."
"No worry, got my own ride," Sora said.
The very next second, all the Reishi in the air—excluding the house, clothes, and stuff people were using—came to Sora.
With that Reishi, he formed a beast beneath him.
A dragon, completely made out of Reishi.
Once again, no clue why Quincies didn't just do this. Heh, he was probably pretty talented in that stuff.
"Wow, a dragon! Can you make it shoot a laser from its eyes?" Orihime's eyes glowed in excitement as she looked at the construct.
"So, Uryu, what do you think of your big bro's dragon?" Sora asked proudly.
Uryu looked away, saying,
"I've seen better."
'His acting is horrible!' was the thought of everyone on the dragon, as even they could see that, to some level, Uryu was proud of it.
"And you wonder why you have no friends," Sora shot back.
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"Come on, be friends with Ichigo. He won't bite."
"He's a Soul Reaper."
"And my girlfriend is also a Soul Reaper. Our practical first meeting was her and Ichigo sneaking me into the Soul Society, so heh," Sora said dryly.
"Not everyone is as forgiving as you," Uryu shot back.
'They sound like two siblings arguing,' was the thought of Orihime and Chad.
"I don't think your girlfriend would like you having other girls on your head," Yoruichi added.
"Heh, you're a cat. Not into bestiality."
The cat just seemed to smile at that, as if she knew something he didn't.
In about two-ish hours—more like an hour and some minutes—they arrived.
The house was... recognizable.
"I hope no one sees us entering this house."
"Uryu, your public view is not high. At worst, they might just think you're a theater kid."
It was like Sora knew exactly what to say to piss him off...
