The Adaptive Quincy of Bleach

Chapter 53: The smoke demon (53)

As the beam of light landed, Uryu was able to grab Orihime and use Hirenkyaku to move them to a safe distance.

"Heh... how did we get here?" Orihime questioned. From her point of view, they had just teleported.

"I used Hirenkyaku to get us here," Uryu explained, letting her go as he pushed his glasses back up. Truly, this was probably the first time he had held a girl before. Oh well, no biggie.

"Hirenky- what?" The girl seemed confused.

Deciding to dumb it down a bit, he opened his mouth and said, "High-speed movement."

"So you go fyo! Does it make a voosh sound when you move?"

Her imagination sure was lively, and innocence was plentiful.

Before Uryu could say anything else, a butterfly landed on Orihime's head.

"Oh, a butterfly," the girl said cheerfully.

Uryu glanced at the bluish creature before clarifying, "No, that's a Reishi construct."

"Isn't that the thing Sora can do?"

"Precisely," Uryu added, taking the butterfly.

Orihime seemed to ponder why Sora would send them a butterfly. Meanwhile, Uryu remembered that when they were kids, Sora would sometimes send those butterflies as scouts. From what he could gather, his cousin could see through them.

Immediately reaching out for the butterfly, Uryu placed the creature over his left eye.

There, he saw it—a full view of their current location alongside all of the Shinigami nearby. There were marked locations in red, some places in green, and each Shinigami's dot showed up as red.

Chad's dot seemed to be purple. Orihime was a vibrant orange. Ichigo was a dark orange. Uryu himself was just white. Sora, however, moved in silver, while Yoruichi was black.

Well, isn't this going to make things easier? Though the tracking for his allies seemed to be purposefully delayed—it only updated whenever Uryu sent a pulse of his Reiatsu.

Deciding to test out a theory, he spoke.

"Orihime-san, can you put this over your eyes for a moment?"

"Okay!" the girl said politely, taking the butterfly and placing it over her eyes.

A few minutes later, she sounded excited and amazed. Why was she acting like a butterfly? Was she perhaps a Gundam? Who knows.

As Uryu asked her to send some of her Reiatsu into it, Orihime did as requested but reported no difference.

All it did was give her a clearer view.

So... Sora had programmed this little butterfly to showcase the full details to Uryu. He probably only did so because he trusted him and, possibly, because he spent the most time with Uryu and thus knew how his Reiryoku worked.

How much he had, everything down to the last minute detail—even if a perfect copy of Uryu was made, they wouldn't even know how to use it. The setup Sora had built for this was basically in gaming terms, something Soul Society wasn't used to.

Uryu sighed a bit. Well, at least this would help them.

Suddenly, a red alert popped up in his view.

{Red Alert: Sword-swinging maniac with the energy of 10 drunk Spartans incoming.}

Orihime's screen, however, displayed something different.

{Red Alert: Personification of a boss fight with no health bar incoming.}

And once again, Uryu saw a new warning appear.

{Red Alert: Professional chaos enthusiast with no OFF switch incoming.}

Well, that was probably their sign to dip.

As they hid, a few seconds later, Black Air Force energy personified could be seen—the embodiment of a honey badger in human form.

The man had spiky hair, and with a charged hand, he seemed to be wearing an eyepatch. Uryu was willing to bet that eye of his was fully functional. Was this perhaps the tank/berserker class Sora usually preferred to snipe from afar in those games he played?

"I swear I feel some strong Reiatsu over there," the man muttered, the sheer will to fight radiating off of him. If there was a fire, this would be the kind of man to jump right in. He ducked no fades.

Those warnings were starting to become quite useful.

The man gazed around to find them.

"He's not here," the man said.

A small girl with pink hair could be seen on the man's shoulder.

"Have you checked over there, Kenny?"

The man grunted before responding, "We already checked there. There were only three weaklings..."

Uryu blinked. Did this man take care of three of his brother's clones? Granted, none of them were near Sora's level, but those clones were decently strong.

What kind of timing was this man on?

"I wonder if I could gather them all up and let them use their strongest move. Maybe that would be fun. I can't wait to cut them down," the man grinned, pure violence in his mind at that singular thought, as if the sheer idea of running a fade was fun.

He was really planning to have a 27 vs 1 just for shits and giggles.

"Where is he? I know he's strong," the man said, dashing off.

Uryu let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding as the honey badger with the power to back it up finally left the battlefield.

Was everyone in the Gotei 13 this bloodthirsty, or was this man just... different?
