The Alien and the Cursed Star

At is early in the morning.

The weather is breezy but not too cold. The sun was about to rise as Nathaniel open his window curtains. It's 4am. For a moment, he contemplates himself if he will continue his sleep or do a morning run. And he chooses the latter.

Part of being a nurse is to be healthy always. Well, guess he is healthier in the earth. After living here in so many years, he already witnesses how people age and die. From a newborn baby, a toddler, a kid, becoming a teenager, make romantic relationships, being engaged and married. Afterwards they create their own family. The parents will age and live together as they go older. And for him, he was not able to experience most of what human on earth is doing. He was stuck as a young adult on their planet. He does not experience to have a girlfriend and neither has not want to. He loves his collection more than just a lady. Well, family might sound good but creating his own, this might give him a lot of headache. Tan is enough for him. He is his family.

Enough with the thoughts, Nathaniel gets his tumbler and his air pods as he listens to music while running. A usual run for him is about an hour. And with that one hour, he came back to his condo. Sweat is the proof of his living.

Why would he like to run? Maybe because it gives him strength and above all, he is having himself a time to think about his life after he will return to his planet. Few months only, he can finally go home. And that's why, this is much a stronger reason why he would not interrupt into humans' lives and make sure also not to have intimate feelings with any ladies out there.

He takes a shower and change his clothes, he aims to live peacefully, being a nurse, in his last few months here. He has plan to say his goodbye to his brother.

A short glance was given to him from a lady. A lady who was be his neighbor. They were inside the elevator as he pushes the button to hit the ground floor. 

He notices that she gets something from her bag and wears her shaded eyeglasses. He can sense that she is into good emotions now. By the energy she has and the humming while they were inside the elevator, surely, she is into light mood.

Good for her unlike the very first time he saw her with that comb microphone desperately releasing her stress on that day.

They were on the ground floor. Sabrina first to come out while Nathaniel gets his bicycle in the bicycle parking area. Morning ahead, he is taking down notes to his mind what he needs to accomplish within the day. There was a 25-year-old guy who has most of the time became aggressive and denied himself for having a treatment. But when he calms done, he always says a name of a lady. By the information given, the guy lost its mind after his girlfriend broke up with him.

Red light.

Nathaniel stops his bicycle. Its few meters only away in his work.

Slowly, there was a downing window in the passenger seat. That girl.

His neighbor.

The girl is still in the mood. She smiles. But she was not looking at his direction. Her shades is still on.

Green light.

It's time to paddle. The car starts to ride, and Nathaniel just focuses on the road.

"Good morning, Nathaniel! Early as always." Mandy, Nathaniel coworker greeted him.

Mandy is the respectful nurse in the hospital. She is much older to them. Maybe in her mid-50s. If based on her looks, she might be 45. They really did not know the exact age because Mandy does not want to talk about it. She once joke that she stops counting her age.

Mandy is like a mother to all of them. They consider her as their mother. Nathaniel knew how much Mandy cares to them. Most of the time, she will offer her extra food on her lunch time. She always cooks extra food and shares to them. Mandy is also the longest nurse in that hospital. She supervises all the workers. Yes, Nathaniel is not the longest because he needs to change his identity. He was once a lawyer, a doctor, a pilot, an engineer, an accountant and now, he is a nurse.

"Good morning Ms. Mandy." Nathaniel greeted back.

"I bring oranges. Nicole says it's your favorite. Bring it to home." Mandy handed her a plastic full of oranges.

"Thanks Ms. Mandy." He smiles to her.

To Nathaniel, Mandy is such a good example of a mother.

"Let me ask you a favor, I am going to have an early out today. Something came up in the house."

Nathaniel only listens to what she is saying.

"Isn't it emergency, Ms. Mandy?"

"Not really but I have to be there in the afternoon. I will assign you to look at Mr. Levi and send a reminder letter to Ms. Sabrina to visit his father for his health improvement.

Nathaniel nodded to Ms. Mandy and go to his first patient. The patient is luckily sleeping. Nathaniel felt a bit of pity to the patient. So, this is what love can cause to people. It puts a lot of pain to a person.

At the afternoon, Mandy says goodbye to them and reminded him again on his what to do list. After the lunch break, he straightly goes to Sab's father's room and check it.

As he opens the door, her father looks on the sound he created.

"Good afternoon Mr. Levi." He said, smiling.

"Sabrina?"

This is the first time he heard that. Maybe, if Sabrina heard it, she would become happier this day.

"Who is Sabrina?" he asks to check if her father really remember her.

"M-my daughter."

This might be a heart-felt moments to humans. The way a father recognizes his daughter. And in his experience here on earth, especially in the hospital, family members started to cry and hugs as their emotions increases.

Somehow, he imagines Sabrina. Sabrina crying but not in pain, rather in the happiness, hugging his father.

"Just wait Mr. Levi, your daughter will visit you soon."

The smile Sabrina had earlier in the car would mean nothing if she ever found out what her father had said. Nathaniel checks his father record. It's been a while since the last time Sabrina visited him.

The last time was when he remembers her being pulled by him since his father is choking her. She might be still in pain in the last encounter.

Line seems endless. There are allotted seats in the center. People are standing behind the barricade. Many goes to the event place very early to have a good spot for the show.

"Please settle down everyone. In a few minutes, who we are waiting will be here."

The crowd makes loud noises to express their excitement.

The lady with her shades on, take it away and waves to the camera and to her fans. A perfect smile to those who waits for many hours just to see her.

Afterall, she knows that she is being famous and cannot be replaced quickly. Her heart is full of happiness where she notices that the place is full of her fans. The crowd are making noise, excited to her comeback.

"Thank you for coming." She smiles in every person who landed her the book and she need to sign on the first page.

"Picture?" She initiated.

The girl giggled while trying to stop herself in screaming.

The girl smiles widely.

She initiated again in shaking hands that the girl nonstop holding her own hand after.

Actually, no one even ever read her new released book. Well, to her it is a masterpiece.
