The Alpha's Fated Secret

Chapter 16: Such Impudence

Logan walked into the elevator and saw Aiden looking intently at him as he came forward, the kind of scrutinizing look that would make one almost suspicious of his own self.

"Who performed the surgery?" He asked.

Logan came forward keeping his face up and tactically ignoring Aiden's gaze which was good enough to make him hide his face in his sprouting fear.

"Seth's cousin, her grandfather recommended her to work in the hospital—"

"And you had to have her perform her first surgery here on Juan, we both know how complicated his case is, how do you plan to take responsibility if the surgery didn't go well?" Aiden asked furiously with his voice almost surging.

Logan stayed calm, bending his head down avoiding his eyes clashing with Aiden's as he spoke_"Alright alright, at least it went well now, I also got convinced that we admitted a great talent into the hospital, it's a double win isn't it."

Aiden scoffed, "I won't say more to this. Just make sure he wakes up well, if he doesn't—its all on you and the new surgeon." He said firmly and coldly before leaving the ward.

Logan sighed and left the ward after him, just after making sure everything was in order for Juan's safe recovery. He came out and saw Aiden standing not far, just a step opposite the elevator as if waiting for him. The elevator door suddenly chimed open and Aiden walked in, Logan ran towards him with his wolf's speed and almost looked like he teleported into the elevator as the door was slowly closing shut.

The elevator door was shut as Logan entered the floor number again hence resetting it's direction. Logan looked at Aiden as they stood besides each other, Aiden's eyes being as cold as ice as usual and his upright straight posture with his hands in his pocket giving a more deadly aura even in the closed elevator.

"You're not just here to check on Juan's surgery are you?" Logan asked.

"What else would I be here for, checking how the young master of that Vinter family is faring in the hospital is one thing I wouldn't miss". Aiden replied.

"Now that his disease has been cured, he'll wake up sooner or later. What do you plan to do next?" Logan asked with his head raised slightly up as he looked at Aiden observing his unchanged icy expression.

"He has always been knowledgeable, I'm sure he'll know what to do once he wakes up. Just tighten the security in the ward, in case someone tries something". Aiden said firmly as he steeped out of the elevator as it chimed open while Logan followed behind.

Logan nodded as he followed behind, clearly understanding the implication of the last words Aiden had said.

Just then, the hospital corridor hums with the soft murmur of medics exchanging notes, and the distant beeping of computer in the air. Paisley stands, collecting a clipboard from one of the hospital's secretary, the secretary leaves after handing her the clipboard while she continues reading it.

After a while, she moves, still with a sharp focus on the clipboard, turning and moving forward but directly slamming against someone. With the sudden jolt, the clipboard tilts and her stance almost looses it's balance.

Her calm expression suddenly disappears becoming share and exasperated. "Watch where you're...." She hooks as she raises her head meeting the Aiden's cold scrutinizing gaze.

The moment briefly catches both of them off guard, with neither of them expecting to run into each other .

"You again?" Aiden questions with a deep gaze as he straightens slightly.

"You're the one who walked into me, more like you're picking up a fight." She replied with a flat look as she adjusted her coat.

Logan who was behind saw the bickering coming up among the two and decided to stay behind unnoticed, listening carefully and enjoying the moment while the others in the corridor pretended like they weren't there also.

"Such Impudence!" Aiden remarked with amusement as he exhaled coldly. "Just cause you saved a rare patient doesn't means you can be arrogant.", he said not in a warning tone, more like giving a strict advice.

Paisley scoffed, looking at his emotionless face and finding his presence being annoying at the moment. "Hmph, nice words coming from someone who wears a cold face all the time".

She brushes past him moving forward, clearing not wasting time on this encounter. He on the other hand felt somewhat defeated by her sharp words. He exhales slowly, shaking his head just once as he continued his pace.

Logan walks closer to him, talking quietly:

"She wasn't really arrogant as you said".

Aiden looks coldly at him, but then remembers her last words, he turns his face forward again, with those lines of words seemingly making him loose his temperament.

"She was rude though". He replied.

"Ohh" Logan said nodding before continuing. "Didn't quite notice."

Aiden frowned, opening the door of the hospital and stepping out with Logan following suit before the door closes by itself.

"Don't let anything happen to him, he's very important especially to the Vinters. Also keep a close look on your new doctor." He said as he entered his car.

Logan looked at him with indifference, not filling understanding his last words. "You mean Old Drake's granddaughter?" He asked.

"Who else is the new surgeon". Aiden replied before turning on the car engine.

"Ok" Logan replied not wanting to guess Aiden's thoughts. Aiden nodded before stepping on the gas and driving off while Logan got back into the hospital thereafter.

He walked briskly into the elevator and went back into his office clearly brushing off Aiden's last words without careful thoughts. Meanwhile, Paisley was getting acquainted with the work environment in the hospital with Rylee helping her.

By 8:00 pm the three of them were already feeling so stressed and tired after working the entire day. Paisley put back on her watch after she had changed from her work outfit. With Rylee and Liam waiting for her by the hospital corridor.

"Sis, why don't we go home together, our résidence doesn't seem quite far from the Drake's residence anyway." Rylee said as Paisley advanced towards them.

"You guys like together?" Paisley asked with a simple expression.

"No, our family's house's are not far apart from each other." Liam replied in Rylee's steed before she could speak.

Paisley nodded, wearing her bag cross sectional over her shoulder. She walks up to them straightening the collar of her brown sleeve.

"Alright let's get going". She said and the three of them walked out of the hospital heading home.

Just as they left, a figure appeared from the dark opposite the hospital, the masked man held a shiny knife with his eyes intensely fixed on the three who just left. He shifted back again, disappearing into the darkness.
