Chapter 14: 14
XAVIER
I held back all the urges to end Alpha Dmitri's life either by slitting his throat, clawing his face or strangling him while spoke about how he wanted to help my pack by giving out his precious daughter to me in marriage.
"All this will soon be over. You just need to put up with him a little longer." Brian quipped as I paced around the room they gave to me.
"I know how issues like this start Brian. Once it starts, it is not going to end. They will keep on imposing things on me."
"We are doing this to get access to their army. Once we do, you can file for a divorce," Brian replied and I gritted my teeth.
I understood that he was being supportive but I didn't want to see the marriage through. I had doubts that it was going to be easy to break off the marriage once I was in it.
Alpha Dmitri was cunning. He would not want to let go easily especially when I took his army
However, I am already neck deep in. I can't turn back now.
"We will leave early so we can get to the pack before the bonfire night begins. There is someone I have to check on." I informed Brian who looked at me suspiciously.
"Is it the girl you asked the guards to bring to the pack?"
I nodded and he stifled some words.
"What is it you want to say? Don't hold it in." I said.
"It is just that I don't think this is the right time to do anything that would make your fiance angry or make her change her mind. We need everything to go smoothly." Brian replied.
"If she changes her mind then it would be good for me," I replied but Brian pressed further.
"As a matter of fact, it won't. She would tell her dad why she changed her mind and when he heard that you did not treat her well, it would add to his grudge towards you and the pack." As much as I hated to admit, Brian was right.
"Fine. I get it. Now go prepare or do something else with your time than stay here to point out my mistakes." I instructed and he walked towards the exit.
Only, he stopped when he opened the door and turned to me.
"Ivy is here to see you."
Bile churned in my gut as he informed me.
Why could she not understand that this was all a game? I have no feelings for her although I've made that clear, and I will not develop feelings for her.
Why could she not keep to herself while this lasted? Her visits were making the decision harder for me to put up with.
I didn't realize that Brian left already until the spot he previously stood was occupied by another figure.
"Hey, Xavier." Her voice rang out and she strode to where I now stood.
"I waited for you to send for me but I didn't hear from you so I decided to come." She sat on the bed and crossed her legs seductively.
I knew what she wanted but I could not bring myself to give it to her which was strange in a way.
"Didn't you think that since I did not send for you maybe I do not want to do anything with you?"
"There's no way you would not want to have me... you can say you were tired but not wanting me? That's not true." She winked at me seductively but it only made anger churn through me.
I have to put up with this because of my pack members.
"We have an important event in my pack today. I think you should rest before we hit the road." I advised but she chuckled.
"Can't you see that I am ready for the journey to your pack? My bags are packed as well. Since you are not ready to leave yet, I thought it would be good to utilize the time, you know...?" She barely finished her sentence when I walked towards the door.
"Great then, let us go. I will have the guards bring your things to the car." She looked confused and a little disappointed but she followed happily like a little child.
Brian was surprised when I told him that we would be on our way but the surprise faded when Ivy appeared from behind me.
The drive back to my pack was painstakingly slow, maybe it was because Ivy never kept her hands to herself.
I am intrigued by females who kept to themselves and made me do the chasing but it was the opposite with Ivy.
We got to the pack in time and I headed for my chambers with the excuse of being tired.
I instructed the guards to prevent Ivy's access to my room.
"Have you seen her? Is she here yet?" I asked after Nylah as soon as Brian came to my room.
He nodded and I heaved a sigh of relief. I never knew I was anxious all the while.
As much as I wanted to see her, I could not move around recklessly or ask her to report to my chambers when I was about to announce my marriage to Ivy.
So I waited for the bonfire night to look for her and glance at her curvy body one more time.
"What now?" Brian asked and I looked at him with an arched brow.
"What?" I asked.
"Now that you have her here, what next?" He asked. Although I understood what he meant, I feigned ignorance.
"What do you mean what next? I don't know what you are talking about." I replied.
"How will you juggle between the two ladies? Plus you know what defiling Alpha Dmitri means..." I gritted my teeth at his words.
"I think you have made your point enough. I get it." I replied dismissively.
"Let me know when it is time to show my face at the bonfire night," I instructed and Brian shrugged before leaving my chamber.
