The Billionaire's Dilemma

Chapter 15: Secrets Behind Closed Doors

Later that evening, Emily stood outside Club Monarch, the warm glow of the chandelier-lit entrance casting a golden hue on the sidewalk. The exclusive lounge was a known gathering spot for the city's elite a place where deals were made and secrets were traded.

She adjusted her black dress, the sleek fabric hugging her figure as she walked inside. The air was thick with the scent of expensive whiskey and quiet conversations, but her focus remained sharp. Whoever had messaged her had something she needed.

A discreet hostess guided her to a private booth tucked away in the corner. Emily slid into the leather seat, scanning the room. The tension in her chest coiled tighter. Whoever had summoned her wasn't here yet.

Minutes later, a shadow fell across the table.

"Ms. Taylor," a deep voice drawled. It wasn't Julian.

Emily glanced up, her pulse quickening. Marcus Hale. Julian's business partner. His dark gray suit was impeccable, but there was an air of calculation around him that made her uneasy.

"I didn't expect to see you," she said, keeping her voice calm.

Marcus smirked as he slid into the booth. "I hear you've taken a special interest in Blackwood Enterprises. I thought it was time we had a little chat."

Emily folded her hands on the table, masking her surprise. "And why would you care?"

He leaned closer, the air between them heavy. "Let's just say I'm not as… invested in Julian's success as others might be. If you're looking for dirt, Ms. Taylor, I'm willing to share. For a price."

Her instincts screamed to be careful. If Julian was a storm, Marcus was a snake smooth, patient, and dangerous. "What do you want?"

"A trade," he said smoothly. "I give you what you need to bury Julian. In return, when your article drops, you make sure the spotlight stays on him not me."

Emily's stomach twisted. This wasn't just a corporate rivalry it was personal. And Marcus wanted her to be his weapon.

"I don't make deals," she said, her voice firm. "I report the truth."

Marcus chuckled softly. "Suit yourself. But if you ever decide you want to know just how dirty Julian's hands are… you know where to find me."

Without another word, he slid a sleek business card across the table and disappeared into the crowd.

Emily exhaled, her heart pounding. She was one step closer to uncovering Julian's secrets but now, she had a new question.

Was Marcus telling the truth?

And if he was, just how far was Julian Blackwood willing to go to keep his empire intact?
