Chapter 42: Marcus’s Ruthless Move
The next day, Julian arrived at Blackwood Enterprises only to find chaos. Employees whispered nervously, and Claire rushed to meet him.
"There's a problem, sir," she said, her voice tight. "Marcus leaked internal documents confidential reports about your most sensitive business deals. The media's already running with the story."
Julian clenched his fists. "He's trying to destroy me from the inside."
Claire hesitated. "That's not all. The board is demanding an emergency meeting. They're questioning your leadership."
A cold weight settled in his chest. Marcus wasn't just retaliating he was trying to take the company.
Emily Faces the Consequences
Across town, Emily was dealing with the fallout in her own way. Her editor, Mr. Hughes, called her into his office, the leaked documents spread across his desk.
"You've been digging into Blackwood Enterprises," he said, pinning her with a sharp gaze. "Is this your work?"
Emily shook her head. "No but I'm close to uncovering the truth. This was Marcus Caldwell's doing."
"Be careful, Taylor," he warned. "If you can't prove your angle, we're running the story as is and Julian Blackwood's reputation will burn."
Emily left the office with a sinking feeling. If Marcus succeeded in turning public opinion against Julian, everything they'd built would crumble.
A Tense Confrontation
That evening, Julian arrived at Emily's apartment, tension radiating from every muscle.
"He's coming for everything," he said the moment she opened the door. "The media, the board he won't stop until I'm out."
Emily's heart twisted at the vulnerability in his voice. This wasn't just about business it was personal. "We'll find a way to stop him," she promised.
Julian exhaled, stepping closer. "He won't hesitate to ruin you too." His fingers brushed against her cheek. "I'm not letting that happen."
"I can take care of myself," Emily said, but her voice softened. "You're not fighting this alone."
For a moment, the weight of the world seemed to press on them both. Then Julian's lips found hers a desperate, fiery kiss that spoke of everything they couldn't say aloud.
But as much as they clung to each other, Marcus's next move was already in motion and it would strike closer to home than either of them expected.
