Chapter 32: Chapter- 31 Realm of Ice
After several moments of hysterical laughter, tears of joy streamed down his face, slowly forming an eerie smile carved into his pale, stoic features.
Eventually, his laughter faded, replaced by his normal indifferent expression as he began to scout his surroundings.
The environment was dark and cold.
The frigid temperatures were evident from the thick layer of frost hanging in the air, so much so that the essence of ice seemed tangible, almost visible to the naked eye. One could see the cycle of frost being exuded and absorbed by the odd vegetation around him.
The plants had an odd form, appearing more like ice than anything else, these plants only hinted toward being vegetation due to several distinct attributes.
Edward felt a wave of confusion wash over him. This endless world of ice starkly contrasted with the world he had known for the past fifteen years.
Sitting up Edward tried to sense mana within the environment but all he was met with was an odd energy that eluded him - Edward was surrounded by life force, but the beings that resided seemed more dead than alive. They had little to no sentience.
Puzzled by this strange atmosphere, Edward stood up, ignoring the nagging pain in his body, and walked toward the nearest ice-pine.
Looking towards the trunk of the tree Edward concluded he was not aware of this species of tree presented before him or for that matter any of the vegetation surrounding him.
Choosing to ignore his inquiries Edward climbed the chilled bark of the tree and reached its crown, finally catching a glimpse of light filtering through the branches.
Perched atop the tree, he felt a wave of bewilderment as he gazed at the sky. It was illuminated by unusual hues of light, varying in shades and colors, like a piece of modern art that actually had depth and was constantly shifting.
A mystical and absurd view
Rubbing his eyes, Edward noticed odd, translucent manifestations of animals and humanoids, each with distinct features but ghostly appearances. None of these ethereal beings acknowledged his presence as he sat high above the tree.
"Where am I?" he murmured, genuinely questioning how he ended up here.
Frantically observing his surroundings, Edward realized the forest stretched endlessly in all directions. An ocean of trees filled the vista, and in the far distance loomed a massive ridge of mountains, encircling the entire forest like a towering wall.
"Wait… those corporal forms, this power…it feels similar to spiritual power, but how?"
But how
It didn't make sense for such a secluded forest to have such a dense and profound amount of Spiritual power without being discovered.
The only logical deduction Edward could conclude was the spirit realm.
What location on earth could contain such a large amount of spirit power?
Where else could such plants which negated reason grow, and translucent beings which reside within the sky exist?
The spirit realm
"How the hell did I end up in the spirit realm?" Edward said scratching his hair
The last thing Edward remembered before losing consciousness was manifesting Arondight and falling.
****
Jumping to the ground Edward started exploring the forest.
It was a beautiful mystical view. Though Edward had observed it when he awakened he didn't exactly see it but merely looked at it since he was still in a drowsy state and distracted from his surroundings
Crunch
Snap
Crunch
Clop
Walking down the naturally made path of clustered roots fallen leaves broken twigs and rocks protruding from the ground
Edward just looked at his surroundings, a small and subtle smile formed on his face and his facial muscles relaxed as he observed the nature surrounding him.
A colored sparrow flew overhead but Edward just offered a subtle nod as it flew away
Reaching for his shoulder to grab his luggage, Edward suddenly stopped as he remembered that he had destroyed it during the battle in the cavern.
"Damn," he muttered, facepalming himself in shame as he reflected on his past actions.
At that moment, Azphel was his only companion, and that was all that mattered.
Edward needed to find food quickly. His body was still in adolescence, and he was continuing to develop. It had been over eight days since he had proper nutrition, and the intense pain aching in his body, mixed with the nagging hunger, truly made things difficult.
After walking for several more hours, Edward stumbled upon a lochan and decided to camp there for the day.
As he approached the body of water, he curiously submerged his hand, swirling his fingers in the liquid. He felt the same power in the water as he had in the air, but it was more dense.
Amazingly, the water was concentrated with pure spirit essence.
Not wasting any time, Edward turned toward a thicket of ice pines, swinging Azphel horizontally and releasing a bright blue blade of sword aura.
Sling!
Crash!
Walking toward the group of trees, Edward snapped his fingers and chanted a spell.
"Levitate."
As he completed the spell, he directed it at the fallen ice pines.
He expected them to hover effortlessly above the ground, but the ice pines resisted his spell, causing his mana to dissipate.
Thinking he had made a mistake, Edward repeated the chant.
"Levitate!"
The group of ice pines rose for several seconds before shaking and crashing back to the ground.
"Goddammit!" Edward exclaimed, exasperated.
After several more fruitless attempts, Edward approached the fallen trees and carried them to the shore of the lochan.
Kneeling by the edge of the water, he took several gulps, feeling somewhat reinvigorated by the water's essence.
Returning to the pieces of trees he had dropped, he continued slicing them into smaller bits to create a makeshift shelter.
Though he had rested for several days in a comatose state, his body still ached, placing a significant physical burden on him.
He would need several days of healing and rest before he could recover to his physical peak.
Since it seemed that night didn't exist in this realm, Edward entered his makeshift tent to block out noise and the light emanating from the vibrant sky.
As he settled into his tent, a small spherical, plump organism observed him, clearly annoyed.
