Chapter 39: Chapter- 38 Take to one's heels [2] Ø
"This body can be driven further!" roared Edward
Edwards' fleeting body sprinted through the mountain brush. His vast leaps and quick steps moved through the mountain ridge at an alarming speed. Collision with a hindered tree or a jagged rock would prove fatal at his velocity.
His blood vessels which were on the verge of explosion started to crystallize as Edward seeped ice-essence into their flesh.
His whole body was ripping and tearing from the inside out, his flesh was pulling apart and helping at irregular inhumane speeds.
The constant trees and shrapnel flung towards him soon began to concern his well-being.
If not for the presence of such an abundant amount of spiritual energy tangling into his body he would have long since perished.
The sentinel raised its left arm and brought it down with daunting force.
BOOM!
The first collision with the ground resulted in a devastating shockwave, which lay waste to the surrounding terrain.
Edward was fortunately vindicated from the shockwave as his mana had finally concluded its harmonization and was beginning to form his 5th star.
Closing his eyes, Edward sensed his body, it started to change, his mussels gained more valor, his bones started to dense, his eyes turned a resounding emerald and crimson, his hair ashen gray rested on one side and an abyssal black on the other.
Most of all his White Flame Formula started to alter into his theorized Frost Flame Formula. The presence of spiritual power which eluded him till now began to suck into his body at an insatiable pace.
His body's torn flesh began to scab over, leaving only dark scars.
His once five cores started to alter and redirect, and two of the original five stars shattered. The two shattered cores' accumulated essences started to circle toward each other and soon started to gain speed and power. This happened until it finally condensed and formed a spherical core giving off a jade-white glow, this core moved to the center of his chest and rested.
His newly initiated core was something of an absurdity. Generally, only beings within, or from the spirit realm should be able to operate Spirit essence without a catalyst unless the person bore a special physique, or an anomaly had occurred. Edward was both the former and the prior.
His current raw power could stand equal with a user of the 6th star of the White Flame Formula, or a peak mage approaching the end of the 8th circle.
His body which already differed vastly from the Lionheart clan's signature gleam, now held close to no similarity foretelling his affiliation with the clan. Much less a direct descendant.
While Edward was under this mutation the Earthen sentinel which pursued Edward suddenly halted action, and gazed at the distancing silhouette of the intruder.
Its vast shadow soon receded and the pursuer turned retiring to its resting area.
Edward had fled from the Sentinel's domain.
***
Edward, not learning of his pursuer's departure, was still prodding through the Earthen domain, leaving only a trail of sky-blue rays behind his swift figure.
Edward forced his remaining stars to revolve around his heart, his mana started to calm and magic circles started to etch into his heart's flesh.
Edward needed to create enough magic circles to employ the spell he desired.
The process took disproportionate accurateness even the slightest blunder would yield the whole process fruitless.
His mind-scape was supplied with only one incantation.
'Blink!'
'Blink!'
'Blink!'
'Blink!'
..>
A short-distance teleportation spell.
Every time Edward used Blink his body would teleport several dozen feet forward.
The spell's persistent use mixed with his total acceleration, was causing his total speed to accumulate considerably eventually approaching sound.
He crossed hundreds of feet a second, blasts of gale and successive shock waves gave continuous booming & rumbling sounds when he moved.
If the sentinel were still seeking Edward, its slow speed and large body would preclude it from catching Edward.
Seeing some oncoming scrub Edward clutched Azphel and laid waste to hindrance.
The friction caused his already crushing shoes to disintegrate.
***
Seventeen hours have passed since Edward had reached the speed of sound.
Edward's mana river had not yet exhausted and his displeasure was growing. Any presence of the next elemental region was absent from view.
Edward was forced to focus on his mana diffusion manually.
***
Hours passed, and Edward's mana had not yet exhausted but his body threatened to collapse.
Edward was fed up with the ongoing loneliness, The last conversation he had with another sentient being was with Glacias, and that was four months ago.
His exchange was filled with vagueness and ambiguity.
" I still need to find the wind sector and get that book' Edward considered reminiscing his deal with Glacias.
***
13.8 days have passed since his journey began.
Edward's swiftness just diminished slightly during this whole tribulation.
His mana had depleted four days prior, currently, Edward was using spiritual Essence as a replacement for mana. It was quite more difficult to use than mana, but its power output was more potent.
Finally, Edward had reached the Earth region's end. …
…what met him was a considerable beach with white sand which led up to an expansive ocean of dark blue transiting endlessly within the horizon.
Edward finally stopped, his body stood, his fists gripped and his teeth gritted.
He gaped at the horizon.
Wobbling to his knees Edward tumbled on all fours.
"I fucking hate that unsightly damn sky!"
"Why damn it!" Edward yelled as he started to punch the sand violently
"I just want to chat with somebody"
"I-I don't want to be separated..,"
Finally after several seconds in a raging fit, Edward laid on his back.
His mind which several seconds ago was filled with turmoil was now blank thinking of an inquiry that just crossed his mind. Edward's expression was blank.
Soon he started to furrow his brow and when he considered something.
"Didn't Glacias tell me to call out his name…. Let me try before I get angered recklessly"
Forcing his body up a surge of pain erupted from within, but Edward's face hinted boredom from the constant feeling.
"Tch," Edward clicked his tongue when he skimmed his body.
"A little blood... No that's not important right now," The crimson trail seeped from a shallow laceration, and down his leg, it looked illuring but he resisted the scrumptious delicacy.
Clearing his throat Edward spoke an improv conjuring incantation.
"Oh king of storm and squall... That doesn't sound proper"
Finally, after several minutes of mixing and blending words like a creant, something came…
"This has to be the one I am inclined to believe it, so let's give it a try, AHEM," I cleared my throat and spoke in a sarcastic tone "This humble lamb who seeks the winds grace, its bountiful crispness its- " Immediately I was interrupted.
A large tornado manifested. The fiercely blowing wind seemed to be carrying a voice and the spiritual pressure surrounding Edward advanced, it had no effect whatsoever to him.
"that worked?"
Within Edwards's view was the wind spirit king.
It was the true manifestation of wind. The Wind spirit king's entire body was made from winds. The winds clumped together to create a humanoid body with large mussels and a built physique that gave off a blue glint.
The spirit king only heeded the summoning out of nuisance and curiosity since the voice arrived from a familiar soul.
But what he saw had him perplexed.
Gawking in the youth's direction the spirit King finally voiced
[...You are…] A voice bellowed mixed with surprise hinting at disarray
"Are you the spirit King Tempest?" Edward communicated indifferently
[... A Lionheart wh-] cutting himself off Temprest resumed
[.. you're Edward, but how? How are you alive?! How are you here?!]
Edward replied "That's not important right now, I was sent by the spir-"
[Don't try to switch the issue to that bastard, I recognize that sword…]
"Of course, you recognize my Sword it was within the Lionheart vault, And I've never met you, As I just said that's not vital rig-" Edward mused before being interrupted.
[...your funeral was nearly five years ago] Tempest interrupted
At these words, Edward discontinued speech.
Pivoting his head Edward confronted the large corporal figure.
"What?" Edward responded disconnected
[I Don't know the details exactly...I was made knowledgeable of it during my eavesdropping of Ham- I meant Eugene]
Edward did not register these words, his mentality was filled with a constant ringing.
'Did he say five years? No, he said five months. It wouldn't make sense any other way!?'
Gazing at the youth Tempest was about to speak further until
"HAHA! HA!>" Edward was attempting to deny this prospect,
'There was no way, how could the time dilation be so large?! I foreshadowed the presence of a time dilation but I had supposed it was so insignificant it would be meaningless to look further.'
Scrutinizing the pale white sand Edward spoke.
"Tell me… how old are my siblings," it was a question that he now feared.
Hesitating for several seconds after the youth seemingly unknowing of this reply.
[They are eighteen years old] Assessed Tempest
"... I see, I'm now more youthful.." Edward replied with a chuckle
Edward lingered silently before inquiring.
"Can you communicate with Eugene"
[I can't] Tempest emitted hesitantly
"May I ask why?"
[Eugene nowadays doesn't possess Wynnyd]
"Does he not have it with him like he's snoozing or …"
[he made an exchange with the White Tower master for an extremely powerful cloak]
'snap'
His already exhausted mental state layered with that rubbish turned him bitter.
"A fucking cloak! he gave Wynnyd for that, what type of damn cloak he trade for!?" Edward became pissed
[What? No, the deal was different. Eugene exchanged Wynnyd as a catalyst for White Tower to contract with me] Tempest expressed trying to rectify the concern
"...oh" replied Edward scratching his head
Attempting to shift the topic Edward uttered
"Ahem… how did you know I was Edward, from what I can tell I look nothing similar to how I used to?"
[ it was because of your soul's appearance I recall it from when you entered the Lionheart vault. & yes I was stunned by your physical look. The spiritual energy stemming from you also baffled me, how do you possess a spiritual core?]
"We all have enigmas we like to keep" shook Edward for he himself was not knowledgeable as to why his body accepted the foreign energy, but he wanted to feign his oblivion.
"May I ask for a favor?"
[That would depend] Tempest mused
"Can you take me to the cathedral of the failed epoch"
Listening to Edward's request Tempest replied shaking his head.
[Did Glacias put you up to this…]
"Yes, he requested me to ask you" responded Edward apathetically
[Fine, I can take you to its entrance, but that is as far as I can go any further would be unattainable you should know why]
"Thank you"
