Chapter 40: Chapter- 39 Cathedral Ø
"Thank you"
Acknowledging the youths' comment, Tempest continued.
[Allow me a second to prepare,]
Pivoting his body Tempest faced the ocean.
Confused by the sudden movement Edward watched his curiosity peaked.
The black opaque water started to surge and seeth. Waves formed but vanished. Large amounts of multi-colored light started to emerge from all directions, the winds howled, the ground shifted and churned, and within the center of this pandemonium rose a vast vortex of many colors.
A tremendous spiritual presence began to emanate from the isolated spirit king.
Edward Watched Tempest converged this absurd amount of energy while showing no blunder, its fluidity, and control unmatched by sheer mortals.
The pale white sand shifted violently, from Edward's observation it was being forcibly extracted of a feeble gray energy.
As Edward observed the commotion he was gradually narrowing his gaze.
His innate eyes, or The Eyes of cowardice.
These eyes were the main reason Edward diverged from the Lionheart clan.
These eyes gifted Edward the ability to view intent.
A purpose held within an action, meaning, or design. The reason that something is done, the intended result, and the emotion within.
This was Edward's blessing.
Though at present Edward donned a set of brilliant emerald & crimson eyes, they still held the exact effect.
Gaping towards the King, Edward observed the pliant Graduation of the spiritual essence and its abacus. His gaze pierced through the guise of complex flow of energy, and read the intent held.
A simple blunder could affect the whole process.
Watching the whole ordeal Edwards' gaze never shifted.
The surrounding tinge started to dim, and the already immense power surged further, soon reaching a chaotic state.
The vortex soon seeped into Tempest's palms and he reached forward. Cupping his hands together to move their part, he seemed to be pulling the fabric of space apart.
"!!!"
Edward could use and control spiritual essence quite exceptionally, but from what he observed a person would need to reach a perfect harmony with the essence to even slightly match Tempest.
'Such intent, if I can accumulate a sufficient amount of spiritual essence, I might be able to reproduce such movement' This discovery would be fairly profound in his future.
'All I would need are the coordinates, and I would be able to traverse anywhere on Earth… in theory'
As confident as Edward was with this newfound discovery, he still wasn't sure about the foci, much less the fundamentals. He only knew its spiritual flow & intent.
As Tempest neared completion, the space was slowly beginning to rift. And The manifestation of a marvelous gate began in the rift's place.
The Gates construction appeared endowed by tangible gales, this prevented the space from collapsing.
[Follow me]
Snapped out of his daze Edward gave ear to Tempest's words and entered the gate.
****
My head pounded, my body began to shiver, and…
Blarch!
After entering the gate my body more or less gave out.
The days of continuous abuse seemed to take effect. The second I strode to the other side of the gate it just flooed my body.
Thud!
I tumbled, my body started to spasm and convulse. Foam spilled from my mouth my eyes threatened to close.
Yet I did not feel pain…
My body was truly in disarray, the inner accordance I had established within my mana, started to crumble and move sporadically.
My Frost Flame Formulas cores started to revolve around my heart at an irregular pace, slowly increasing in speed and destructive power yielding no positive outcome.
My body was slowly dying, I was slowly dying.
My mind was not in turmoil, nor was I disarrayed, my breath was not irregular nor was my hearts beating.
These emotions were eclipsed by annoyance.
Annoyance that this body couldn't handle such basic movement.
Annoyance that after so many lives, I always grow accustomed to the fence of omnipotence.
Yet I was in such a state. My speed was laughable my power was weak.
This body though utterly unmatched when it came to potential and innate talent, still lacked power.
I've been deceiving myself into assuming I was strong.
Because of my past lives.
as I am, I am weak, I am scared… I am alone.
...
No, I'm not alone yet, I've built relationships in this life… but, how am I supposed to reason my sudden appearance after five years of absence.
'That's my future self's problem,'
As Edward pondered scenarios, he was simultaneously concluding his body's unstable state by altering and correcting the chaotic Frost Flame Formula. My mana stabled, and my body cooled, the ice essence weaved into my tissue and cooled any stimulus.
Tempest gaped baffled at Edward's elemental commands fluidity, and harmonization. It was as if his body was sculpted to only be used with Ice and spirit.
['I can see why Glacias didn't kill him'] presumed Tempest
Finally, after several moments of convulsing Edward stood up
Phew!
[are you alright?]
"Yeah," responded Edward
Shaking any lingering dust off his essentially non-existent clothes Edward redirected his gaze forward.
From his vantage point what lay before him was a breathtaking vista.
A cathedral of magnificent proportion, its irregular shape broadened and exchanged, broadcasting a view to an observer that would leave an observer more confused than in awe.
Its exterior shone brilliantly. Its exterior decked with precious metals and jewels each acting as a reflectant shone scatterd light in all directions
In the surroundings were Lush untamed gardens that filled the territory, hindering its once magnificent view.
Hundreds of large monoliths of varied hues and structures spiraled around the territory's dominion. Each seemed inscribed with a striking runic language and symbol, each was lost to time.
The runes glowed a subtle pigment. Even thousands of years after their creator's absence these creations still worked to orderly manifest such a large and great barrier around the parts.
The structure truly conveyed rectitude, to the gods of the mythical era, but …
' To construct such an overindulging view they must have been an influential race of beings. Odd truly an odd utterance of history'
While guessing inwardly Edward was interrupted..
[is it not a magnificent view, it truly is a sorrow that we spirits are impeded from entering its valor.]
Listening to Tempest glaze the structure I curtly responded pessimistically.
"Ehh it's okay I suppose"
[...]
[what?] Tempest reacted dazed
"It seems a little too outlandish ya know, and what a waste of resources"
[I still think it could be objective..]
"We are in a housing crisis god dammit, and you are saying that. Reckon if those greedy bastards hadn't hogged all these goods. Had they not it could have allowed the kings who run the empires to make more irregular excuses,"
[I'm not precisely sure of human affairs, so I would not share your sentiment, but can't you see!]
"I can I can, anyway I have a few inquiries before I enter"
[what would they be?] Tempest questioned
"Am I the first human whose entered the spirit realm,"
This had been an inquiry that Edward had pondered since the beginning of his arrival.
[maybe, maybe not I don't know nor care, Glacias is the one who deals with such trivial tasks] Tempest responded with an understanding tone
Nodding his head Edward felt slightly vexed, but shrugged it off already expecting such a reply.
"may I contract with you"
[No, that won't do]
"Are you going to Contract with Eugene"
[more or less]
"Then why can I contract with you?"
[You are a tenacious & stubborn one I see]
"I get that a lot, so why can't I contract with you"
[I was about to get to that, as much as I do feel enticed to contract with you, I can't, your body seems to reject all forms of energy that don't elude to water or ice]
"How about water vapor, that's a gas"
[yes, it is but that is only a physical state of water. In the end, it still is fundamentally water]
"So contracting with you would prove to be a fruitless endeavor" Edward mused.
[correct, but this would have to be the end of our chat time is ticking and I have a business to heed to]
Listening to this Edward nodded his head and left with departing words.
"Don't tell my family I'm alive"
[an odd petition, but shall not prone your family of you livelihood] assured Tempest
"Till we meet again, Tempest"
[as well as I]
I stood and scrutinized the gate Tempest fled from.
Ultimately, accepting his departure I examined the cathedral and jostled my head.
"Such show-offs"
