Chapter 24: Sweet Temptation in the Night
Once they returned home, Wu Mei immediately headed to the bathroom for a shower. The warm water cascaded down her body, washing away the tension of the strange day. After drying herself and stepping out wrapped in a towel, her wet hair clung to her face and shoulders.
Qin Yanzhou was already in the bedroom, waiting.
Without a word, he stood and took the hairdryer in his hands. She raised an eyebrow but allowed him to approach. He gently led her to sit on the edge of the bed. Plugging in the dryer, he began to blow warm air through her soaked strands, running his fingers delicately through her hair to untangle the knots.
"You didn't have to," she murmured.
"I want to," he replied simply.
As he dried her hair, he couldn't help but lean in and press a soft kiss to the crown of her head.
She felt the touch and turned slightly. "Huh?" she whispered, startled by the warmth that sparked in her chest.
"I'm sorry," he said softly. "I couldn't help it."
She looked at him carefully. "We really were together before the accident?"
"Yes," he said, nodding slowly, his voice low. "We loved each other deeply."
She stared at the floor for a second before looking back up, a shy flush on her cheeks. Then, timidly, she leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek.
That single gesture shattered whatever restraint he had left.
Temptation swelled in his chest like a crashing wave.
Just as things began to intensify, there was a soft knock on the door. Qin Yanzhou blinked in surprise. "Come in," he called.
The door opened slightly, and his grandmother stepped in with a tray. "I thought you two could use some relaxing tea before bed," she said kindly, placing the tray on the table. Her eyes sparkled with amusement as she winked subtly at her grandson.
"Thank you, Grandma," Yanzhou said, trying to hide his awkwardness.
Wu Mei offered a polite smile. "It smells good."
"It should help you both sleep… peacefully," the old woman said cryptically before stepping out and closing the door behind her.
Qin Yanzhou took the two cups and handed one to Wu Mei. "Let's drink," he said with a soft chuckle. "It's probably chamomile or something."
They both drank the warm liquid slowly. It tasted sweet, almost floral.
But within minutes, Qin Yanzhou's eyes darkened. His skin flushed faintly, and he loosened the collar of his shirt.
"Are you alright?" Wu Mei asked, noticing the shift in his breathing.
"I… I don't know. I feel hot." He ran a hand through his hair, jaw tightening. "Something's not right with that tea."
Wu Mei set her cup down. "Should I call someone?"
He grabbed her wrist, gently but firmly. "No. Don't go."
His eyes were locked onto her now, burning with heat and need. Whatever had been in that tea—it wasn't ordinary. It stirred something in him, something primal, something that couldn't be denied.
"Wu Mei," he breathed, his voice husky. "I need you."
Her breath hitched as he pulled her into his lap, his hands already roaming along her waist. The heat of his touch was searing, his restraint unraveling by the second.
He kissed her neck, each press of his lips more desperate, more intense. She gasped, clinging to his shoulders.
"Yanzhou…"
He lifted her gently and laid her down on the bed, eyes devouring her. "I'm sorry," he murmured. "But I can't hold back anymore."
She didn't resist. Her body ached for him too, her own heartbeat echoing the same rhythm.
Their lips met again, a collision of longing and fire. His hands explored her curves with urgency, worshiping every inch.
The nightgown slipped off her shoulders and pooled silently at her feet. She gasped as the cool air met her skin, but his body pressed against hers, hot and possessive, banishing the chill.
He lifted her effortlessly, carrying her to the bed like she was made of silk and fire. She wrapped her legs around him, needing him, aching for him.
Their bodies pressed together under the bedroom light, passion taking over every thought, every hesitation. Each kiss deepened, turning into a silent conversation.
When he finally entered her,a moan has escaping her lips. Their bodies moved in together, a dance of heat and emotion, of trust and surrender.
"You're mine," he growled into her ear.
Her nails dug into his back as she gasped his name, her body trembling beneath his.
Afterward, wrapped in the warmth of his arms beneath the covers, Wu Mei lay silently. Qin Yanzhou ran his fingers through her hair, drawing soothing circles across her back.
The room was quiet except for the steady thump of their hearts.
She shifted slightly against him, her voice barely above a whisper. "Sometimes I get flashes. Memories. They're vague… blurry."
He tightened his arms around her.
"It's okay. You don't have to remember all at once," he said. "Just stay with me. Let me protect you until you do."
Wu Mei pressed her face into his chest. "I feel safe with you," she admitted.
Qin Yanzhou pulled back just enough to look at her, cupping her cheek. "I'll never hurt you. I'll wait however long you need."
She gazed into his eyes, and for the first time, something flickered—recognition, trust, maybe even the beginning of love reborn.
"Don't leave me again," he whispered, his voice cracking slightly.
"I'm not going anywhere," she replied, placing her hand over his heart.
They held each other tightly, falling asleep in a tangle of limbs and emotions, surrounded by the fragile beginning of something new, and something old remembered.
Outside the room, the world continued moving—but inside, time seemed to stop for them. The night blanketed their fragile bond like a silent witness, and for now, it was enough.
What do you think that will happen in chapter 25?
