The Devil CEO’s Reborn Lover

Chapter 42: Into the Enchanted Realm

"This is incredible," Wu Mei whispered, eyes wide with wonder. "It feels like a dream."

"Yet it's real," Mo Qing said softly, stepping forward and kneeling to touch the grass. "Everything here has magic in its roots. Can you feel it?"

Qin Yanzhou remained close to Wu Mei, his hand gently resting at the small of her back. "Whatever this place is," he murmured, "we need to stay alert. Beautiful things often hide danger."

Together, they began their exploration of the magical world. They passed by fields of glowing blossoms that swayed to music only they could hear. A crystal-clear river wound through the valley, and a waterfall cascaded down shimmering rocks into a pool filled with golden fish that leapt and danced in the sunlight.

"Look!" Wu Mei pointed at a group of horses—tall, majestic, and unlike any earthly creature. Their coats were silvery white with streaks of glowing blue along their manes, and their hooves barely touched the ground as they trotted.

Mo Qing's eyes sparkled. "This... this is like something from an ancient legend."

As they walked deeper into the valley, they came upon a tranquil lake dotted with large, white lotus flowers. Moored at the edge was a small wooden boat, its carvings intricate and glimmering faintly with runes.

"Let's take the boat," Wu Mei suggested. "We'll see more of the lake and its surroundings."

Qin Yanzhou narrowed his eyes at the boat. "Are you sure it's safe?"

"We won't know unless we try," Wu Mei said with a grin.

The three climbed into the boat, and to their surprise, it began to glide forward on its own, as though guided by invisible hands. The surface of the water was still, a perfect mirror reflecting the vibrant sky above.

"No paddles... it moves on its own," Mo Qing said, her voice laced with awe.

But peace didn't last long. A sudden, harsh caw echoed through the air. Above them, a large black crow swooped down and circled the boat.

"Cra! Cra! Cra!" it shrieked, flying low and then rising again. It circled three times before darting away into the distance.

"Was that a warning?" Wu Mei asked uneasily.

Qin Yanzhou's eyes followed the bird. "It felt like one."

"Let's be cautious," Mo Qing added. "Magic worlds are not always kind."

After a while, the boat gently bumped against a small wooden dock. The three stepped out and found themselves at the edge of a village. It was a bustling, colorful place filled with creatures and people unlike any they had ever seen.

Stalls lined the cobbled streets, selling everything from luminous fruit to sparkling confections. The villagers had humanoid shapes but bore strange markings—green lines that traced along their arms and necks, glowing faintly under the sunlight.

"They're not like us," Wu Mei observed, watching a woman with antler-like horns hand out glowing pastries.

"Let's blend in and not cause trouble," Qin Yanzhou advised.

Their stomachs began to rumble, the smell of freshly baked bread and sweet spices teasing their senses. Mo Qing and Wu Mei exchanged a glance and giggled.

"We need food," Mo Qing said with a smile.

They approached a stall where a kind-eyed merchant handed them warm pastries that glowed faintly pink. The flavor burst on their tongues—sweet, citrusy, and warm, like eating joy itself.

Just as they finished eating, a commotion broke out nearby. A young man, perhaps in his early twenties, was fighting off two burly men with tattered cloaks and cruel expressions. The young man wielded a silver sword with decent skill, but he was clearly outnumbered.

Wu Mei didn't hesitate. Instinct taking over, she grabbed a thick wooden stick from nearby and rushed in. "Hey! Leave him alone!"

With a swift strike, she knocked one of the attackers aside. The young man took the opening and slashed toward the other, who stumbled back. Together, they drove off the bandits.

Breathing heavily, the young man turned to Wu Mei with grateful eyes. "Thank you. You didn't have to help me."

Wu Mei smiled, brushing her hair from her face. "I couldn't just sit by."

He bowed slightly, sword lowered. "May I have your name, brave one?"

"Wu Mei."

"I'm Zhao Xi," he said, offering a handshake. "You have the spirit of a guardian."

Just then, Qin Yanzhou appeared at Wu Mei's side, his eyes sharp with possessiveness. Without a word, he slid an arm around her waist and pulled her close.

"I'm Qin Yanzhou," he said with a tight smile. "Her husband."

Zhao Xi blinked, then smiled politely. "I see. You're both strong."

Mo Qing stepped forward with a smirk. "And I'm Mo Qing. We're travelers... new to this world."

Zhao Xi's eyes lit up. "Then you must be careful. Not everything here is friendly. You were lucky it was just two bandits."

"We figured as much," Qin Yanzhou muttered, eyes still on Zhao Xi.

"I know a safe place nearby," Zhao Xi offered. "A friend's house, just outside the village. You can rest there and learn more about this land."

Wu Mei looked at Mo Qing and then at Qin Yanzhou. "Should we trust him?"

Qin Yanzhou studied Zhao Xi for a moment, then gave a short nod. "We'll follow. But I'm watching."

"Good. It's wise to be cautious," Zhao Xi said, leading the way.

As they left the village, Wu Mei couldn't help but glance at the sky. The world was full of wonder—but now that they had entered it, there was no telling what danger awaited next. And deep inside, the red glow of her ring pulsed once more, like a quiet warning that their journey had only just begun.

To be continued...
