Chapter 293: The People's Haven
"How is the capital still standing? I asked Drius, genuinely curious.
"You can thank me." A voice crept from behind me, and I immediately turned to meet a pale woman with long white hair, and red eyes.
"Lucy!" I cried.
"Hey you… what took you so long?
I turned to Drius and to Theo, and then back to Lucy.
"Let us talk someplace else."
She nodded, and walked forward, I joined her.

[Additional Information]
You are the Queen of the Night, considerably stronger in the night, and weaker in the daytime. You possess an immortal body, but be wary. No Immortality is absolute.
"Oh, not so broke now." I teased. Lucy Fer merely turned to me, making a childish annoyed face, sticking out her tongue.
She had on a white crop top, and a short black skirt that exposed her pale thighs. I on the other hand had a brown tunic shirt on, and an oversized brown leather trousers, with black shoes that were just my size.
"What took you so long in there?"
"What took me so long?" I found the question insensitive, and frankly annoying.
"I thought to take a nap before fighting the boss."
She stopped, and then turned to me.

"I am merely just worried you know, you spent four days in there, and I know the floor was much harder than the first…" She stopped and then turned away.
"I was scared you didn't make it you know." She muttered under her breath, but I just could make out the words.
I walked to her and pat her head. She raised her face slowly to mine, my eyes widened, and I felt a little nervous at that moment. I couldn't look her in the eye, and I turned away.
She giggled mischievously, I was sure she loved how I acted shy around her.
"Teheeheee, you missed me, didn't you?"
I had my face staring elsewhere, I didn't want her to see my red face, I didn't want to be embarrassed further.
"Hmmm… How was your experience in the second floor, was it difficult?" I thought to divert to our topic of conversation, that would be a less embarrassing than admitting that I did miss her.
"It was fun, but very difficult, and time consuming."
"Yes! I also think the system has gone haywire. I was taken to a special event against my will soon after."
"I as well. Most of the participants from earth died in the second floor, and much more died in the special event, it was terrible, I sense that something is amiss."
"I suspect as much."
'Dead participants'
[Number of Participants: 722]
[2 months: 7 days: 8 hours]
"722" I was shocked by this. Though I didn't care much about strangers, it was jaw dropping to see that so many of us earthlings died taking on the second floor, and the special event.
'I easily could have been part of the losses.'
The numbers enraged me, I didn't have a savior complex, I was aware of competition existing amongst us, of the grim reality we would face, but seeing the numbers really shook me.
I turned to Lucy, and I had no words to tell.
"A shame, and a terrible omen. I sense that things are going to get extremely chaotic, and we should ready ourselves for what is to come." I merely nodded to her statement.
'How can she be so dismissive about it?'
"Lucy, when did you clear the second floor, how long did it take you?"
"It was difficult, and I was immensely lucky, I had too many close shaves, but I did it all in a day. I was worried about you and hoped to find you where we last met."
"That is so nice of you."
"Yes yes, rub it in."
I looked up at the red sky, the rays of the sun were barely getting through, and that black wave that looked to tear through space was present once again.
"It was when I got here that the quakes began. Chaos followed, and maddened creatures stormed. I fought with the guards to subdue them thereby earning their trust, and when I saw Theo and when he recollected his relationship and your actions in his life, I thought to help. You go by Luke with these people?"
"You didn't think I would give my real name to natives, did you, and besides, it is trivial."
Lucy nodded in agreement.
"The shield is not an ability of mine, merely that of a powerful artifact in my possession. I'm tempted to charge these people for my services, but I have no use for native currency so…"
"That is kind of you Lucy."
"You are right, so not like me." She said.
"Not like me to be either."
We both burst into laughter. We were doing things that were quite contrary to the alignment, but it was nice, it felt just right to be so.
"The people came storming in, seeking refuge. I was against taking in more people when there was no knowledge on how long the quaking would last, but Theo thought differently, and he let them all in."
"That sounds like something he would do. He was raised well." I said with a smile.
'I am sure your parents are extremely proud of you wherever they are Theo.'
