Chapter 502: 469, The First Labyrinth—Golden Goat Palace!
Charles did not let the fleet approach, instead he lowered a small boat, taking Herolf, Andreas, and eight sailors on the small boat, rowing towards the Golden Goat Palace.
Having not gone far, Charles, finding human rowing too slow, walked to the stern of the boat, pressed his palm into the sea water, and activated his Stellar Battle Qi. Instantly, the boat's speed surged, cutting through the wind and the waves. In a little over two hours, they neared the labyrinthine maze in the sea.
It must be said, although it appeared almost within reach, the fleet was actually quite far from the Golden Goat Palace.
Whether it was Charles or Herolf, the more they looked at the Golden Goat Palace, the more it resembled St. Michael Island, only, when they got close, they discovered the Golden Goat Palace was bustling. Thousands of believers, draped in white robes, were kneeling in prayer, reciting scriptures to their God.
Herolf pointed at a statue in the largest square of the Golden Goat Palace and said, "St. Michael Island certainly doesn't have a statue of the Evil God."
Charles nodded his head, recognizing the statue, and even having looked directly into the eyes of the statue's real-life counterpart—a creature crimson all over, wielding a giant hammer, as if it had no skin!
He was indeed the Labyrinth Evil God Agmilas of the Agres Sea.
The Golden Goat Palace was filled with statues of Him, and those thousands of believers, sincere in demeanor. Other than the fact that there shouldn't be so many humans here, nothing else seemed amiss.
Andreas asked, "What should we do? Should we ask them how to challenge Agmilas?"
Andreas also felt this idea was far-fetched, but he had no idea how to properly go about challenging an Evil God. In this world, there might only be a handful of people who had such "trivial knowledge."
From the diary in Charles's arms, a wisp of an idea transmitted, "Gain recognition from the believers of the Golden Goat Palace, replace Agmilas's place in the hearts of the believers, and the first palace's challenge will be completed."
"These believers are Ling demons from Solomon Island, having stolen the memories of travelers passing through the Agres Sea. They are fanatical believers of Agmilas, with unshakable faith."
Linking the two reminders together, Charles suddenly slapped his thigh and had an epiphany, saying, "I know how to get through the Golden Goat Palace now. These believers are not human, but Ling demons from Solomon Island. Killing all of them will allow us to pass through the maze."
The group of Ling demons' faith in Agmilas was unshakable. Replacing Agmilas in the believers' hearts...
Perhaps to the inhabitants of this world, these two tasks were utterly contradictory and an absurdly difficult puzzle to solve. But for an Earthling, wasn't this just a tricky riddle? Even a three-year-old child could do it. Ling demons are believers, but believers aren't necessarily Ling demons!
If their faith was unshakable, just kill this group of believers and replace them with another, wouldn't that perfectly solve the problem?
Andreas was taken aback and said, "Are you sure?"
Herolf, however, leapt into the air, saying, "Just kill a few and we'll know."
He pointed a finger and sent out two bursts of Fighting Spirit, piercing through the chests of two believers. How could these believers withstand a high-level Sacred being like the old goat? They died on the spot, their bodies gradually transforming after death, revealing the grotesque sight of one eye, one finger, and one toe.
Andreas had nothing to say and drew his rapier, saying, "The two of us taking down so many Ling demons really is tough work."
Charles took out the Red-Blue Rattlesnake and tossed it to the pair, saying, "Use this! It'll be much more efficient."
Herolf and Andreas did not hesitate, each taking a Handgun, and began firing at the group of Ling demons. As High-Level Extraordinary Weapons, the Red-Blue Rattlesnake's power was much greater than the Withering Rose's, basically guaranteeing one shot per Ling demon. Additionally, the Blood Energy Bullets transformed from killing Ling demons were enough to replenish their expended energy.
This group of believers, being shot for no reason, immediately panicked and ran wildly on the island, but Herolf was very familiar with St. Michael Island. No matter where these human-shaped Ling demon believers hid, he could easily find them.
Very quickly, the Golden Goat Palace was a scene of bloodshed!
Charles pressed his hand to his temple; though it was the killing of Ling demons, he still wasn't accustomed to it.
He could only silently say in his heart, "You shouldn't exist in this world!"
"Although destroying you wasn't my choice, because I had no other option, if you must resent someone, resent first the Evil God who created and used you, and then, give me a share of that resentment."
Several Ling demons, faces filled with hatred, pounced towards Charles. Herolf and Andreas sensed no danger here and didn't step forward to protect him. Charles didn't take the handful of Ling demons seriously either, his Blood Rose flew out, easily killing them.
About an hour later, Herolf and Andreas returned with relaxed expressions and handed the Red-Blue Rattlesnake back to Charles. Charles accepted the pair of high-level alchemy Handguns and said, "Now, try it, believe in me for a moment."
Andreas shrugged and said, "Alright!"
The old goat had no choice but to agree.
At first, Charles felt no difference, but soon he perceived two voices echoing in his heart, one voice was: Charles actually wants me to believe in him? That's really weird! Is he going to become an Evil God? I always thought he was a good guy...
