Chapter 380: Chapter 379: Voidrangers Have Rights Too! (Just Kidding)
Abandoned City
This abandoned city was once a thriving metropolis, but after the invasion of the Antimatter Legion, it was reduced to ruins. Now, it had become one of the latest Legion gathering points.
Originally, there were over ten thousand Voidrangers stationed here. However, in recent days, every time they launched an attack on humanity, those who remained on Earth—led by Welt—had successfully neutralized them.
But it didn't matter. They had already received orders from the Lord Ravager to launch another attack, probing humanity's current strength.
While waiting for the command, the Voidrangers stood in small groups, patrolling various key locations.
To the Legion, these ordinary Voidrangers were nothing more than disposable cannon fodder—expendable and unimportant. Take the trio currently stationed at the city's main entrance, for example. They weren't exactly guarding anything: rather, they were simply standing idle, awaiting orders.
Today was just another ordinary day. As mindless, thoughtless foot soldiers, they simply stood at their post, waiting. If anyone were dumb enough to approach, they'd immediately rip them apart using their Antimatter field generators.
Meanwhile, off in the distance, Pei Guang was leading a large group forward—all of them crouching low as they slowly advanced.
At the very front, Pei Guang moved with exaggerated stealth, boldly creeping toward the nearest Voidranger. Behind him, Kevin was crouching alongside Elysia, watching the scene unfold with growing concern.
Kevin couldn't help but whisper, "Are we seriously just walking right up to them like this? Isn't that... a little too bold?"
After undergoing brutal training under Welt and being equipped with advanced weapons, Kevin had now reached the point where he could take on Voidrangers in direct combat. He was even confident enough to single-handedly fight a Trampler and win.
But the problem was—this wasn't a direct battle.
Pei Guang's order wasn't to engage, but rather stealth.
Kevin understood the concept of stealth. What he didn't understand was why Pei Guang's version of stealth involved walking straight through an open street while crouching, directly in front of the enemy.
There was no cover.
No shadows.
Just a line of people blatantly crouch-walking forward, out in the open.
Kevin knew Voidrangers weren't blind. Even the lowest-tier ones, with no real intelligence, could still detect enemies standing in front of them. If they spotted a threat, they'd instantly warp forward and slice them apart with their twin-bladed attacks.
And yet… here they were.
Crouch-walking in broad daylight, less than a hundred meters from the enemy.
It was utterly ridiculous!
But what could he do? After seeing Pei Guang's abilities firsthand, as absurd as this order was, Kevin still followed it.
Elysia was following the plan too, so naturally, the rest of the soldiers complied without hesitation.
Each soldier was equipped with Transdimensional Gear, but due to limited energy resources, they couldn't sustain constant teleportation. The energy they carried was just enough to freeze enemies in place, after which they'd hand them over to Vill-V for processing.
Elysia, ever cheerful, reassured Kevin. "Relax~ It'll be fine. Even if something does go wrong, you've seen how powerful Ah Guang's fire is, right? One big blaze, and poof!—problem solved."
Up ahead, March 7th overheard their conversation and slowed her pace slightly. Once Elysia and Kevin caught up, she turned to them with a smirk.
"Hmph~ Rookie! Let me tell you something—this is Ah Guang's signature stealth technique. As long as you're moving alongside him, mindless enemies won't be able to detect us. That's just how stealth works!"
Elysia, intrigued, raised an eyebrow. "I get the stealth part, but... we're literally talking out loud right now. Doesn't that, you know, ruin the stealth?"
March 7th waved her hand dismissively. "Nah, it's fine. As long as we stay quiet when we get within ten meters, we won't get detected. First, we stealth our way inside, then Ah Guang aggros everything at once. You guys just have to be ready—Ah Guang is a pro at pulling mobs. No one is more professional than him in this!"
Kevin: "..."
He had no words: was this even stealth anymore?
Kevin wanted to say something, but in the end, he said nothing. He knew he wasn't the smartest, so rather than overthinking, it was better to just watch how Pei Guang handled things and learn from him.
However, what happened next left not just Kevin but even Elysia, who had somewhat anticipated it, and all the soldiers following them in complete silence.
Pei Guang led the group in a stealth approach, inching closer to the Voidrangers. The particular Voidranger standing guard continued to stare ahead, unaware of their presence. It was a mindless creature, yet for the first time, it felt an odd itch at the back of its head.
It didn't understand—its brain was supposed to be part of its body, so why did it suddenly feel like it was itching?
And on this day, it wasn't just this one Voidranger. Every single Voidranger in the area felt that same inexplicable itch at the back of their heads.
If Silver Wolf were here, she would have told these Voidrangers outright: "This is a status effect. Tough luck—you got hit and didn't even try to protect yourself, that's all on you."
As everyone watched Pei Guang approach the Voidranger, they swallowed nervously, sensing something strange about what was happening. What they saw next left them all utterly speechless.
Pei Guang crouch-walked right up to the Voidranger, walked past it, circled around to its back, and then raised his wooden sword, aiming straight at its rear.
At the same time, Stelle and March 7th also moved into position behind other Voidrangers. Stelle lifted her bat, ready to smash a skull in, while March 7th pulled back her bowstring, gleefully aiming for a headshot.
Then, in perfect sync, as Pei Guang thrust his sword forward, Stelle and March 7th attacked as well. Since the goal was to capture the Voidrangers alive, they all held back their strength.
But for the soldiers watching, a chill ran down their spines. They couldn't comprehend how Pei Guang had managed to lead them past the enemy's detection, but seeing what followed made them all mentally put themselves in the Voidrangers' place.
Just imagine—you're standing guard, minding your own business, and suddenly, you get stabbed in the rear and your head explodes. Worse, the person attacking you walked right past you, circled around, and pulled this off while you were staring straight at them.
If word got out, the shame would last generations!
Dying was one thing—losing in a fair fight was just bad luck. Getting ambushed was unfortunate but understandable. But getting stealth-killed while staring directly at your attacker? There was no way to explain that humiliation.
Pei Guang and the others executed their moves cleanly and efficiently. However, it was immediately apparent that Pei Guang's weapon was too effective. His stab outright killed the Voidranger. Stelle's strike, empowered by pure destruction, sent the Voidranger's head flying.
Only March 7th managed to keep her target alive. Her ice arrow pierced the Voidranger's body, and with her Six-Phased ice, she managed to freeze its vitals, leaving it barely clinging to life.
Seeing this, the entire group fell silent. Meanwhile, Pei Guang turned to Vill-V and gestured at her. "Hurry up! I brought you all here for a reason. This one's still half-alive—perfect for your experiments."
All eyes turned to Vill-V. She took a deep breath and stepped forward. Without saying a word, she adjusted her emotions, pulled out her professional tools, and got to work.
Her task? To dismantle the Voidranger's Antimatter Field Generator. Having previously dissected a Doomsday Beast, this was hardly a challenge for her.
Still, since this was her first attempt, she took her time—just over five minutes. The test subject was a regular Reaver, one of the countless cannon fodder units in the Legion, making it the perfect practice target.
And as someone working under Pei Guang, eager to prove her worth, Vill-V's first dismantling attempt was not just a success—it was an outstanding success.
The twin blades of the Reaver were successfully dismantled. After extracting the antimatter field generator, the Voidranger's body, composed entirely of antimatter, was frozen using transdimensional technology and immediately transported back to the designated energy station.
Due to its unique properties, the antimatter within a Voidranger's body couldn't be fully utilized. However, as long as it was transported before it completely perished, Herta's puppet estimated that a single Voidranger could provide enough energy to power an entire city for a year.
Despite functioning similarly to a regular power station, the space required for a Voidranger power facility was about the same as any conventional energy plant. Moreover, these stations left no pollution when destroyed. Their core function was essentially to keep Voidrangers on the brink of death, preventing the destruction energy-infused antimatter within them from dissipating.
The only drawback was that once a station was damaged, the Voidrangers within would die, and even if the station were repaired, it wouldn't be able to generate the same level of energy.
By sustaining antimatter with destruction energy and continuously extracting power from Voidrangers, there was significant energy loss in the process. However, in comparison to nuclear energy, this method was far more efficient.
