Chapter 190: Two-Way Run
The waiting time for a storm to arrive can last weeks, months, or even years. During this period, the glass vial must remain completely still and out of contact with sunlight, as solar contamination will lead to the most disastrous consequences.
Additionally, when the wizard continues chanting the spell repeatedly at dawn and dusk, they will eventually experience a moment where the tip of the wand touches their chest and they feel a second heartbeat.
This second heartbeat may be stronger or weaker than the original, depending on the Animagus form the wizard is about to transform into.
When the second heartbeat occurs, there is no need to worry or panic. Everything must continue as usual.
The mantra must be recited the correct number of times without losing rhythm.
And when the storm arrives and a lightning bolt strikes the sky, the wizard must immediately head to the place where they buried the glass vial.
If the wizard has completed all the previous steps correctly, they will find a mouthful of blood-red potion inside the glass vial.
At this point, the wizard must immediately head to a spacious and safe place to ensure the transformation process does not draw attention or endanger their own body.
Finally, the wizard must point the tip of their wand to their heart for the last time, recite the incantation they've been repeating at dawn and dusk, and then drink the potion.
If everything goes well, the wizard will experience intense pain and two powerful heartbeats. In their mind, the creature they are about to transform into will appear.
At this point, the wizard must not show fear. After all, it's too late to escape their proper transformation.
The first transformation is often uncomfortable and terrifying, as the wizard's clothes and items like glasses or jewelry fuse with their skin and turn into fur, scales, or claws.
However, the wizard must not resist or panic. Otherwise, the animal's head could take control and lead them to do foolish things or even completely replace their soul.
After successfully transforming into an Animagus, if the wizard wishes to return to their human form, they must imagine their human form as clearly as possible and complete the transformation.
This is what was recorded in Lynn's notebook.
Perhaps the method to become an Animagus recorded in Lynn's notebook is just that. It may not seem so difficult.
After all, Lynn and Irina have already learned the three Unforgivable Curses, which can affect the soul of a wizard and make them fall into the abyss. So, what is the Animagus transformation, which doesn't affect the wizard's soul?
However, the uncertainty involved in learning to become an Animagus is the main reason why wizards don't practice it, and why there are so few Animagi in the magical world.
For example, the step of letting the vial of glass absorb the moonlight: if clouds cover the sky that night, the wizard will have to find a new mandrake leaf and start over.
Additionally, the Animagus practice cycle is very long. If you're lucky, it may only take a few days, but if you're unlucky, it could take several years.
During such a long practice period, it's very possible for a wizard to make accidental mistakes, which will waste all their previous efforts.
"What do you think? Will you come with me?" Lynn approached Irina.
Irina didn't hesitate. She took Lynn's hand and smiled sweetly, "Of course, this is not difficult for us, right?"
Perhaps becoming an Animagus is something extremely difficult for wizards who don't know anything about it. After all, waiting for the storm to arrive may seem far away in a place like the United Kingdom, where there isn't much of a rainy season.
But Lynn and Irina are different. They have prior knowledge of the original plot and know that a violent storm will occur on the eve of the first Quidditch match after Halloween.
Now, there are just over two months before the storm, and it will take them a month to hold a single mandrake leaf in their mouths. Therefore, they really need to chant the spell and wait every day. A month for the storm to arrive.
In such a short time, the chances of them making a mistake are extremely slim.
After receiving Irina's response, Lynn smiled sincerely.
Lynn took out two golden leaves and placed one in his mouth.
He held the leaf in his mouth and said slowly, "This is the alchemical tool I refined. We can use it to simulate a single mandrake leaf in advance. Once we get used to holding the leaf in our mouths, we can start practicing with real mandrake leaves once we return to normal life."
With that, Lynn handed another golden leaf to Irina and signaled for her to put it in her mouth.
Irina nodded, took the golden leaf, and placed it in her mouth.
To be honest, when they first held the golden leaves in their mouths, the strange feeling in their mouths made it almost impossible to communicate normally.
But as time passed, Lynn and Irina gradually got used to the sensation of the golden leaves in their mouths and could speak normally.
Soon, four days passed.
And today is Irina's Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
Professor Lupin followed the same routine and led the third-year Gryffindors and Slytherins to the teacher's office, picking up the troublesome Peeves along the way.
After teaching everyone how to deal with Boggarts, Professor Lupin asked Neville to be the first to try.
Then, the legendary and famous scene occurred again!
After Neville's "funny" curse, which he almost screamed, the Boggart, which had originally taken the form of Professor Snape, suddenly changed.
They saw "Professor Snape" start to wobble, and his large black wizard's robe, which resembled a bat, turned into a lace-embroidered skirt. He was wearing a tall witch's hat, and there was something in his hand.
This was exactly the "Professor Snape" who looked like an old woman!
Seeing this scene, Irina almost immediately took out a camera, the same model as Lynn's, from her pocket and pressed the shutter on the version of the "Professor Snape" who looked like an old woman, in front of Neville.
Their movements were almost identical.
After Neville, Professor Lupin asked the other students to come up one by one to deal with the Boggart.
Soon, it was Irina's turn.
When Irina stepped forward, the Boggart suddenly changed, and a black shadow fell to the ground.
Irina looked down, and her entire body froze in place. She covered her mouth with her hand, her body trembling slightly.
She saw the body of a child lying on the ground. The child had dark red hair that looked like streaks, but his dark red eyes seemed empty and lifeless. There were two dark bloodstains on his neck, pierced by the fangs of some sort of snake.
Obviously, the child lying on the ground was Lynn, who had almost been killed by the basilisk six months ago. However, in Irina's Boggart fear manifestation, the transformed Lynn was… already dead from a basilisk bite.
What Irina feared was Lynn's death!
Seeing this, Professor Lupin, who wasn't too far away, seemed a bit complicated.
What this girl, Irina, and Lynn feared most was each other's death. Obviously, this wasn't a one-way fear, but a mutual one!
