Chapter 107_2
In but a moment's time, the monster had already healed substantially, its pitch-black vertical pupils filled with chilling anger, all focused on Hercules, who posed the greatest threat to it.
"Damn this immortality!"
The Argo Heroes cursed silently as they saw the scene before them.
"Swish!"
In that moment, Chiron pulled from his quiver a green-gold arrow inscribed with secret text and shot it into the heart of the serpentine-footed giant Perros.
A deathly gray aura spread from the arrow's tip, causing the giant, who had just risen, to fall again, with its healing and regeneration visibly slowing down.
But soon, the torn heart valves of the giant started to squirm, inch by inch pushing Chiron's arrow out of its body.
Seeing this, Chiron's heart sank.
The God of Craftsmanship, Hephaestus, had once rushed to produce for the Argo Expeditionary Army's heroes a batch of Divine Artifacts specifically designed to target immortality.
The arrow that he had just fired was one of them.
Yet the effect turned out to be minimal.
After all, the Giant Spirit Clan had the Earth's blessing; setting foot on the ground granted them strong self-healing abilities, almost immortal.
Furthermore, after breaching the Sacred Garden and consuming large quantities of the Magic Potion and Golden Apples within, their immortality had been greatly enhanced.
In addition, it seemed the Authority of the ten Titan Temples was now covering the entire Underground Labyrinth, and these mass-produced Divine Tools designed to counter immortality were barely sufficient against the common members of the Giant Spirit Clan. However, high-ranking giants like Perros, who were stationed in the labyrinth, lacked the status of a Chief God, but their immortality had been boosted to the point of near invincibility.
Not to mention them, the Divine Blood Heroes equipped with mass-produced Divine Tools—even a genuine Chief God arriving would likely find it no easy task to truly slay these high-ranking giants.
"Don't get entangled with this thing! The mission is what matters!"
Chiron shot another arrow aimed at immortality into the serpentine-footed giant, while simultaneously signaling to Hercules in the front.
The most effective method to break the Giant Spirit Clan's nearly endless regenerative abilities was to destroy the Titan Temples that continuously provided them with their protective Authority.
Hercules clearly understood this principle, and he immediately abandoned the self-healing serpentine-footed giant on the ground, wielding the Nameless Axe Sword to hack and smash his way through the dense crowd of Magic Beasts and giants, plowing a bloody path forward.
"There's an exit ahead, stick with me!"
Upon hearing this, the Argo Heroes decisively maintained a tight formation, with Hercules spearheading their acceleration forward.
Their mission, after all, was not to exterminate the Magic Beasts and giants in the underworld but to destroy the Titan Temples; there was no need to stubbornly engage with these troublesome creatures.
As they sprinted forward, a sharp whooshing sound came from behind.
"Thud!"
A thick, black serpentine tail shot through like a javelin, piercing straight through the chest of an Argo Hero.
Then, the handsome young man coughed up blood and was thrown into a horde of Magic Beasts.
"Hyras!"
Seeing this, Hercules in the front showed a grief-stricken and furious expression, his eyes turning red as he instinctively wanted to turn back to rescue him.
This young man was not the false persona previously disguised by Perseus but his very real adopted son and most trusted homosexual lover.
Although he could not dissuade his adopted son, who was adamant about joining the expedition, he had still arranged for Hyras to be placed at the relatively safer rear out of personal concern.
However, unexpectedly, the child still couldn't escape the fate that was destined to befall him.
"He's gone, let's move!" Chiron commanded sternly.
Hercules's enraged mind cooled down a bit; he clenched his teeth and glanced back at his submerged adopted son and the slowly standing serpentine-footed giant. With great sorrow, he turned his head and led the Argo Heroes away from the perilous zone.
Crossing the wavy Light Gate, a familiar sensation of spatial distortion assailed them.
Before the Alte Heroes could regain their senses, they were plummeting rapidly, the dark and steep pit and its sharply-pointed rock spikes growing rapidly larger in their view.
"Wind, light as you are, remove our burden, let us soar with graceful wings, without falling!"
Zethus and Karaiss, two Argo Heroes, who were both sons of Wind God Boreas, sang out Divine Words, stirring the air currents around them to descend gently with their teammates.
Plop, plop!
At that moment, dense stalactites fell from the ceiling, fast and sharp, and the two Wind God's Sons, who were busy helping their teammates land, were taken unawares and impaled through their armor and wings by several stalactites.
Both Argo Heroes let out cries of pain, with blood spattering down; unable to control the airflow, they and everyone else plummeted uncontrollably into the pit.
Quick-thinking Telamon and Cainis immediately smashed their Divinely-empowered Round Shields filled with Divine Power onto the bottom of the pit, with fierce Magic Flows mixed with metal fragments from the shields shooting out to shatter the slow-growing spikes at the pit's bottom, narrowly averting disaster.
"Something... Something's coming down from above, hurry!"
The two Wind God's Sons, hearing the rustling sounds around them, quickly bore the pain of removing the stalactites piercing their wings, urging their fellow heroes to move quickly.
At that moment, Atalanta climbed up the rock walls to scout the pitch-black surroundings, swiftly locating the faintly luminescent exit ahead using her sharp Archer's eyes.
"There's a way out ahead!"
As the stones above their heads fell with a rush, the scents of the Magic Beasts and giants pressed in quickly; Hercules and Chiron decisively ordered the injured Wind God Twins to be helped up, leading everyone through the narrow, rugged ravine at an increased pace. They rushed into the Light Gate ahead before the trap of Magic Beasts and giants could close in on them.
