The hero of DC and Marvel

Chapter 4: Chapter 4

This time, I got a lot of summons, which is great—we need all the help we can get. Mercy can be the head doctor, and Sabrina can assist with magic. Escanor, without his power, can run the bar. Ted can help either Mercy or Escanor. Panda will be another fighter, and as for Pikachu and the Indoraptor, since they're just pets, I'll let them roam the island and have fun around the base.

That said, I had one concern—would the Indoraptor try to kill me?

"System, will the Indoraptor obey my orders?" I asked.

"Yes, the Indoraptor will obey the host's orders unless those orders cause harm to itself," the system responded.

"Will all pets follow this rule?" I asked again.

"Yes."

That was a relief—I didn't need to worry about them turning on me.

"Alright, system, summon Indoraptor and Pikachu," I commanded.

A bright flash of light filled the room, and when it faded, both the Indoraptor and Pikachu stood before me. The Indoraptor was the first to move, stepping toward me cautiously. I extended my hand, letting it sniff me. After a few moments, it allowed me to pet it. Pikachu, seeing that I wasn't a threat, scampered up to me and leaped into my arms. I caught him and held him close.

"Hey, little guy, you're adorable," I said, smiling down at Pikachu.

The Indoraptor let out a snort, clearly jealous.

"And you're cool-looking," I reassured it.

The Indoraptor let out what almost seemed like a smile.

"You need a name… How about Ace? You like that?" I asked.

Ace nuzzled his head against my neck in approval.

"And Pikachu, I assume you want to keep your name?"

"Pika! Pika!" Pikachu chirped happily.

I took that as a yes. Now, it was time to assimilate my new powers.

"System, assimilate powers," I said.

A sharp pain shot through my body, but it didn't last long.

"That wasn't too bad this time," I muttered.

Ace and Pikachu both looked at me with concern.

"It's okay, just a little pain," I reassured them.

Now, it was time to bring in the new allies.

"System, summon Mercy, Sabrina Spellman, Escanor, Ted, and Panda," I commanded.

A bright flash filled the room once more, and when it faded, they all stood before me. They glanced around in confusion before their gazes landed on me—well, on me, Ace, and Pikachu.

There was a long silence until Ted finally spoke.

"What the fuck are those?" he blurted, pointing at Pikachu and Ace.

Mercy, Sabrina, and Escanor turned to look at Ted, clearly surprised that a teddy bear had just spoken.

"Oh! Are you a Cursed Corpse too?" Panda asked curiously.

Now everyone was looking at Panda.

"I'm a what?" Ted asked, frowning.

"No, he's not like you, Panda," I explained. "And these two are Pikachu and Ace."

"Wait… like the Pikachu? The Pokémon?" Ted asked in disbelief.

"Yep. And Ace is a dinosaur," I confirmed.

"What's a Pokémon?" Angela—Mercy—asked.

Ted looked horrified. "Seriously? You don't know what Pokémon is?"

I sighed. "Angela's from a different world, just like all of you. Her world doesn't have Pokémon or superhero movies."

"What about Star Wars?" Ted asked, hopeful.

"No."

"Star Trek?"

"Nope."

"Fuck me, that sounds horrible," Ted muttered.

Sabrina, who had remained silent, finally spoke up. "Okay, are we just going to ignore the talking teddy bear and the talking panda?"

"Hey, we have names! I'm Ted," he said, gesturing to himself.

"And I'm Panda," Panda added cheerfully.

Ted turned to me. "Seriously? Panda? That's his actual name? Jesus, that's lazy."

I ignored the comment. "Alright, I'm sure you're all wondering why you're here. Let's start with introductions. My name is Edward, but you can call me Ed. I'd like to hear about your experiences before arriving here."

Ted was the first to answer. "Alright, so I died—some weird-ass guy literally ripped me apart. Then I woke up in a white void, and this voice asked me if I wanted to live again in another world. I said yes, and now I'm here."

Panda spoke next. "I died fighting a strong sorcerer. Same deal—the white void gave me a choice, and I took it."

Mercy sighed. "I was on a rescue mission for civilians—Omnic attackers came. Hundreds of them, stronger than anything we had ever faced before. My entire team was slaughtered. I died last, making sure the civilians got out safely. Then the void asked me if I wanted to keep helping people in a new world, and I said yes."

Sabrina nodded. "I died trapping the Eldritch Terrors inside Pandora's Box. The void asked if I wanted to live again, so here I am."

Escanor was last. "I died after fighting the Demon King. I used every last bit of my life force to power up Sunshine one last time. When I woke up, the void asked me if I wanted to live again in a new world, and I accepted."

Everyone turned to stare at Escanor in disbelief.

Ted's eyes narrowed. "You fought a Demon King? I don't believe it."

"It's true," I said.

Now everyone was staring at me.

"In his world, Escanor was the strongest knight. Right now, he's just a regular human because he no longer has his power."

Ted still looked skeptical. "Knight? What kind of world is he from?"

I smirked. "A land of myth… and a time of magic."

Ted groaned. "Did you just quote Merlin?"

I chuckled. "Oh, you have Merlin in your world? That's cool. Hope you finished watching it, though, because trust me—I checked. it's not here.

Sabrina, arms crossed, cut in. "Alright, that's all well and good, but can you explain why we're here and what world this even is?"

I took a deep breath. "This world is far more dangerous than anything you've experienced. Superheroes, supervillains, gods, aliens, magic users, and technology beyond your understanding all exist here. I brought you here with my ability, which randomly summons people from other worlds once a month. I also gain powers and items. I brought you here hoping you'd help me improve this world."

Ted's face paled. "Oh. Well, we're fucked."

"Not completely. I do have a plan—with your help, of course," I said.

"And what exactly do you expect us to do?" Sabrina asked, crossing her arms.

"With your magic, you can make sure other magic users don't find us. Mercy can run the medical side of things. We can always use more warriors, so Panda will be a huge help in that area. Ted, you can assist Mercy or Escanor. And speaking of Escanor, since you don't have your powers right now, you can just run the bar."

Ted raised an eyebrow. "Okay, but what's in it for us?"

"Money, a place to live, protection, and vacation days once we have enough people to keep things running," I answered.

They all fell silent, clearly thinking it over.

I let the moment stretch before speaking again. "I know this is a lot to take in, and I suggest you take a few days to consider your options. If you don't want to be part of this, I'll make sure you have enough money to live comfortably with new identities. But if you decide to stay… think about how many lives we can save. We have a chance to change this world for the better."

They remain silent

"Church," I called out.

A moment later, he appeared. "Yo."

I gestured to the group. "These are our guests. They'll be staying with us for a few days until they decide on their decision. Take them to the living area so they can rest."

"Got it. But we need to talk—something came up," Church said.

I frowned. "Alright. Meet me in the briefing room."

Church smirked. "Already there. I'm an AI, dude—I can be everywhere at once."

I made my way to the briefing room, still holding Pikachu in my arms while Ace followed closely behind. It took a few minutes, but I finally arrived. As I stepped inside, Church appeared.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"A couple of things. I found the place you wanted me to look for—the one where they're keeping the mutant kids," Church said.

A picture of a building appeared on the screen. It looked almost identical to the one from New Mutants, but there were a few key differences. Guards were stationed everywhere, all wearing black tactical armor and carrying rifles, with pistols strapped to their sides. In the movie, there were no guards patrolling the grounds. That was when a thought hit me.

"Please tell me this isn't who I think it is."

Church sighed. "Sorry, but yeah—it's Hydra."

I groaned. I hadn't wanted to deal with Hydra yet. I planned to wait until I had more allies, but now it was unavoidable. In this fused Marvel-DC world, Hydra was an even bigger problem. For all I knew, there were more heads of Hydra than ever—hell, I wouldn't even put it past Vandal Savage to be part of it.

"Tell me everything you know," I said.

"Hydra has been capturing mutant kids and bringing them to this facility. And… they don't come out," Church said grimly. "I hacked into their computers. They're experimenting on the kids, trying to create their own version of the X-gene to build super soldiers. They haven't had any successes, but that hasn't stopped them from continuing."

I clenched my fists. "Who's in charge?"

"A guy named Clifford DeVoe—aka The Thinker. He's the head scientist. His 'assistant' and 'wife'—and I'm using that term loosely because she's basically a prisoner—is Dr. Marlize DeVoe."

"She's a prisoner too?" I asked.

Church nodded. "Yeah. I found footage of her trying to escape with some of the kids. It didn't end well. They got caught, and The Thinker made her watch as Hydra soldiers shot the kids for attempting to flee."

I gritted my teeth. "Is there a doctor named Cecilia Reyes there?"

"Yeah. Just like Dr. Marlize DeVoe, she's a prisoner—and she's a mutant too."

"Are there any other prisoners besides the kids?"

Church hesitated. "Yeah… two more. Richard and Mary Parker."

I froze. "What?!" I shouted. That caught me completely off guard.

"Yeah, I was surprised too," Church admitted. "They were presumed dead in a plane crash, but if I'm reading this correctly, Hydra kidnapped them before they ever got on that plane. They swapped in two other bodies to make it look like an accident. Hydra wanted them because of their research on the Blank Gene."

My eyes widened. "If that's their research… then that means Peter must have it."

"There's a high chance he does. What do you want to do?" Church asked.

I exhaled sharply, thinking through the situation. "The Ground Bridge is still offline. I need at least a week to get it working again, and we don't have a large enough team. Right now, it's just All Might, Annie, and me. I have a teleportation power, but I don't know how to use it yet."

Church's holographic form flickered slightly. "Wait—you have a teleportation power now?"

"Yeah, I just got it today. But the problem is, I have zero control over it. If I try to use it without practice, I could accidentally teleport us into a wall—or worse, into the ground."

"So, do you want to tell Annie and Toshinori?" he asked.

I sighed. "I already know how they'll react. The moment they hear about this, they'll want to charge in without a plan. We can't afford that." I paused. "How many kids are still there?"

Church's expression turned grim. "Eight."

I felt my stomach drop. "Only eight?"

"That's all that's left. Hydra plans to bring in more by the end of the week."

"Fuck," I muttered. "That's not enough time. I was hoping to get the Ground Bridge running first, but we don't have a choice. We have to move today."

Church studied me. "Ed, what do you want to do?"

I clenched my fists, then made my decision. "Call Annie and Toshinori here. I'm not going to be like Batman, keeping secrets from my team."

"Okay, I called them," Church said.

"Pull up the kids' info."

One by one, profiles appeared on the screen:

Subject 102: Rahne Sinclair (Mutant) – Power: Lycanthropy – Can transform into a wolf or a hybrid wolf-human form.

Subject 103: Dani Moonstar (Mutant) – Power: Telepathy & Illusory Emotion Manifestation – Can manipulate minds and project people's greatest fears or desires.

Subject 104: Illyana Rasputina (Mutant) – Power: Teleportation – Can teleport through an unknown dimension, using it like a bridge.

Subject 105: Samuel Guthrie (Mutant) – Power: Thermo-Chemical Energy Field Propulsion – Generates explosive energy to propel himself at high speeds with force field protection.

Subject 106: Roberto da Costa (Mutant) – Power: Solar Radiation Absorption – Absorbs sunlight to enhance strength, his body cloaked in darkness as a side effect.

Subject 107: Frankie Kane (Metahuman) – Power: Ferrokinesis – Can manipulate metal with her mind; her eyes glow magenta when using her abilities.

Subject 108: Tyrone Johnson (Mutate) – Power: Living Portal – His body acts as a portal to the Dark Dimension; he requires a light source to sustain his teleportation.

Subject 109: Tandy Bowen (Mutate) – Power: Light Generation – Produces 'living light' and can create dagger-like constructs with it.

As I scanned the list, something didn't add up.

"I thought you said the kids were all mutants?" I asked.

"I thought so too," Church admitted. "But after digging through their files, it looks like The Thinker is getting desperate—he's grabbing any super-powered kid he can, or even experimenting to create them."

Before I could respond, the door opened, and Annie and Toshinori walked in. Annie's eyes immediately landed on Pikachu.

"What are those, and why is one so cute?" she asked.

Pikachu leaped out of my arms, sprinted across the table, and jumped into Annie's grasp. She caught him easily.

"Hi, little guy," she said, stroking his fur.

"That's Pikachu. He's a Pokémon from another world. And this—" I gestured to the indoraptor. "—is Ace. He's a dinosaur. But we can talk about that later. We have more important things to discuss."

I explained everything. The experiments. The kidnapped kids. The Thinker. Hydra. By the time I finished, the room felt like it was crackling with tension. Annie's eyes glowed, the lights flickering as her emotions surged. Toshinori transformed into All Might without hesitation.

"These villains—no, these monsters—did this to children?" Toshinori growled, his fists clenching.

Annie's voice was cold. "I don't care if the Ground Bridge isn't working. I'll fly there myself if I have to. We're saving them today."

"I agree," Toshinori said firmly.

I had expected this reaction. "I knew you'd say that, so I put together a plan. It's not perfect, but it's the best we can do on short notice. We'll fly in using Stratosphere to avoid detection. Church will ensure no satellites or radars pick us up. Once we're there, he'll create a dead zone—no communication in or out."

They both nodded, accepting the plan without hesitation. But there was something else they needed to hear.

"And when we get there... we can't just fight the guards. We have to eliminate all of them. Not just the security, but the scientists too—except for Dr. Marlize DeVoe, Cecilia Reyes, and Richard and Mary Parker."

Annie hesitated. "Can't we just turn them over to the authorities?"

I shook my head. "No. Hydra is everywhere. If we let them know we're onto them, they'll vanish before we can take them down for good. And we don't have a prison here on the island."

Silence. I could see it weighing on them. All Might had never killed before. Annie had—twice—but I knew she hated it.

I took a deep breath. "I know I'm asking a lot from you. I've never killed before either. But I'm willing to do it... to save lives."

Toshinori clenched his fists, his expression dark. "I've never had to take a life. Even in my weakest state, my strength was always enough to stop my enemies without killing. But this world is different. If I have to do it to save those kids and make sure these monsters never do this again... then I will."

Annie remained silent, deep in thought. Then, after a long pause, she finally spoke.

"I'm sorry... I can't kill." Her voice was quiet but firm. "I'm in a new world now, and I want a chance to do things differently. I'll still go on the mission, but I'll only knock them out."

I nodded. "That's okay. You can focus on the rescue."

Her shoulders tensed. "I'm sorry if I'm letting you guys down. I just… I can't do it anymore."

Toshinori shook his head. "You didn't let anyone down, Annie. You're doing what you believe is right. And that's just as important."

"Okay, let's get ready. Annie, I hope you like your new suit—it's just a prototype, but I plan to improve it in the future."

"Pika! Pika!" Pikachu chirped excitedly.

Ace let out a low growl, stepping forward. They both wanted to come.

I sighed. "Sorry, guys, but not this time."

Their expressions dropped, and I instantly felt bad. So, I gave them a different mission.

"I need you two to protect the base. Can you handle that?"

"Pika pika!" Pikachu nodded eagerly.

Ace gave a firm, approving snort. They looked happy again.

"Alright, the rest of us have five minutes to get ready. Let's move!"

They both ran off, and I turned to leave as well. This mission was going to be tough, mainly because I had no real experience in the field. Once this was over, I needed to ask Toshinori to teach me how to be a hero.

"Church, take me to Angela's room."

It took a couple of minutes to get there. I knocked on the door.

"Dr. Angela, I need your help."

She answered almost immediately. "What's wrong, Ed?"

"My team and I are about to head out on a mission to rescue some kids and other prisoners. There's a chance they might be badly injured, so I need you to prep the medical wing. Are you willing to help?"

Angela didn't hesitate. "Of course."

"Thank you." I nodded before heading off to my own room.

There, I suited up. My suit had a bold emblem, glowing gold energy lines, and a sleek, high-tech design. Once I was ready, I made my way to Stratosphere, where Annie and Toshinori were already waiting. Annie wore her new super suit, while Toshinori remained in his Small Might form, likely conserving energy. Since I hadn't made him a suit yet, he was in regular clothes.

"Nice suit," Annie said, looking me over.

"Thanks. Do you like yours?"

She stretched her arms, testing the fit. "Yeah. It's way better than my old one, especially the crap Vought gave me."

I turned to Toshinori. "Sorry I didn't make one for you yet. I'll get to it when I have time."

He smiled. "Suit or no suit, I'm still All Might."

I smirked. "Alright, me and Annie have earpieces built into our suits. Do you have yours?"

Toshinori tapped his ear. "Yes, I do."

"Good. Here's the plan: when we arrive, Toshinori, you'll be the distraction. Draw every guard outside and keep them focused on you. Annie, with Church's help, you'll focus on the rescue. I'll take care of the scientists and head for the boss. Everyone clear?"

Both of them nodded. "Got it."

"Good. Time to go."
