Chapter 4: Chugging Along
Taking a sip as while opening the tab, Ryker sees four quests.
[quest: have 5 repeat customers, reward: hyper gum]
[quest: sell 20 Dr. Salt, reward: Infused Spirit Puff balls]
[quest: sell 10 sea bananas, 10 solar apples, 10 stone coconuts, reward: pickled picks]
[quest: sell 5 hyper gum, 5 infused spirit puff balls, 5 jars of pickled picks, reward: food court section of the shop] After scrolling and looking at the quests thinking about how they might take a while, Ryker goes to the rule section and makes a list of conversion rates of currencies to store credit, starting from lowest to highest.
One mana stone for three, a core mana gem for two, a secondary mana gem for six, deity shards for eight, and finally a soul crystal for thirteen. Hoping that fewer people would be confused about the prices. As Ryker was finishing the new so-called rules, he hears the door chime ring. Looking up, he doesn't see anyone, which confuses him as he quickly scans up and down. They notice a small black oval with green legs and yellow strips and a small neck he quickly knows its a type of turtle, but doesn't know what type.
"Why hello little guy," Ryker picks them up, struggling a little because of their unexpected weight. "Dang, what are you made of tungsten?" he puts him down on the counter as they're getting a little fussy. Grabbing a banana for him and bringing it back, peeling it as he walks. Watching the turtle's eyes widen before quickly consuming it like a pack of starving wolves after he sat it down on the counter in front of him
"Want some more?" seeing the little nod, he asks hyper if he is allowed to give away more. [Yes host, you are allowed to give away as much product as you like since it is your store; things given away do not earn profit or help complete quests]
With the confirmation, Ryker brings back four bananas, setting them all down in front of the turtle, "all yours little guy." Watching the turtle eat two more before putting the other two into its shell somehow, before it hides up in its shell, still sits on his counter. "I could go for a nap, two little man"
As the day keeps passing by, Ryker continues to stare out the window, hoping someone would come in but besides the turtle, no one else does. Willowing in his solitude, he runs his hand across the turtle's back as he thinks back to his own cat, all alone at his parent's house waiting for him to return with his catnip for the car ride that will never come. "I wonder what your name is buddy…" Ryker continues to rub his hand down the turtle's shell trying not to think of his past, as the day slowly comes to an end, he closes the shop up, turning of the sign, grabbing the turtle he brings him upstairs and sets him in the sink with a half-coconut filled with water before heading to bed himself. Rest comes easily tonight as the long day of waiting has drained his already low battery to empty.
Walking up in the morning and taking a shower to freshen up, he hears a hiss from his sink, "Oh right, little guy." Grabbing the turtle and heading down to open up shop, he sets his new mascot on the counter with a banana before stocking up the shelves, waiting for someone to come in.
Thinking aloud, Ryker wonders, "Hyper, will those bananas won't hurt him? Because I don't think turtles normally eat bananas as their main diet." With a quick reply from hyper. [The sea bananas won't hurt him as spirit fruit doesn't come with the same problems for the body as normal fruit, unless poisonous]
Nodding his head, Ryker goes behind the counter to repeat the same monotonous waiting game he has been playing for the past few days. He decides to start asking Hyper more questions to get his mind on something productive. "Hyper, when can I start hiring people, such as having this guy be our mascot?" [The host can start hiring after the first expansion of the store]
Thinking of more questions, he stops and looks up, as the door rings the same tune as the past few times. "Hello, Ryker," Zor and Tethorth both say, basically in sync. "When are you going to get new…" Zor stops as he sees the cans in the cooler. "What are those?"
"They are a soda called Dr. Salt, it calms your nerves and emotions for 45 minutes per can," Ryker explains the benefits of the drink. "Soda… never heard of it but I didn't know you were an alchemist Ryker. " Tethorth says, looking down at the turtle deciding to let it be after it hissed at him. Walking back to Zor, they start talking about what to buy as Ryker gives the turtle some pats on the head gently, now that it's out of the shell
Waiting as the boys set their items on the counter: four coconuts, two solar apples, and six cans of Dr. Salt. Seeing the haul the boys brought, Ryker gets a little happy "Will that be all, boys?" Zor quickly replies, "Yes, that's all our money for the month, but these coconuts are so helpful for training days." Both boys put down seven qi stones.
Quickly scanning all the items, coming to a total of 46, "with your current balance of 1 each and the 14 shards you are missing, two coins…. So I'll let you have one apple for free for your big spending, just make sure to come again," Ryker says as he grabs a bag that appeared on his side of the counter before putting everything in. "Thank you, boss," Tethorth says before Zor can thank him. "Thank you!" they say again before heading out of the store, leaving it quite once more.
Going back to asking the system questions, Ryker comes up with one that's important to him: "Hyper, can I leave the store whenever I want? And what roles can I hire people for?" [Yes, the host can leave at any time, and is also able to unlock the doors from both inside and out] The system gives a little more detail than asked before continuing, [though it's not recommended for the host to leave without starting cultivation do to mortals being easily killed. And for roles the host can hire for are anything the host requires or needs, though there are quests related to certain jobs that may come about. From already selective jobs]
Thanking the system, he clicks on the shopping cart to see what he can buy. Quickly realizing all the cultivation manuals and skills are still grayed out even if he has enough money, "Hey Hyper, why can't I buy any of the cultivation books or scrolls? Like, even these mortal grade ones are grayed out," Ryker says stumpeded. [The host's root is dried, also known as crippled. The reason for this is the host's family and world developed under the influence of no energies for many years, making the roots of people die out after many generations of lack of use and need. Meaning the host can't cultivate any of the energy types]
"SHIT! You got to be kidding," Ryker complains and yells
