Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Keyon's POV
I didn't even take a car when I left the Werewolf kingdom. Shadow and I would be much faster. Mathew had driven to the Gryphon kingdom so he was probably almost there. I could get there in time...perhaps. I could explain everything to him and we would go find Raphael and where he was holding Elizabeth.
There were multiple routes one could take to get to the Gryphon kingdom so Shadow carefully followed Mathew's faint scent that was still lingering.
It didn't take us long before we saw a car. The only car that was leaving the Werewolf kingdom since everyone was preparing for war. Shadow started sprinting towards it. It was strange though. I would have expected the boss to be speeding to the Gryphon kingdom. At the rate he was driving, it would take twice as long to get there.
I slipped inside the moving car in my shadow form. Mathew was nowhere to be found. His scent was strong though and he had definitely been here no more than two hours ago.
I snapped my eyes at the young girl in the driver's seat. She couldn't have been older than eighteen. Tears were streaming down her grey eyes and her long black hair and long green gown were covered in blood. This had to be the Nymph Princess, Princess Cecilia. Ken told me the boss went to the Gryphon kingdom with her, but where was he?
"Where is King Mathew?" I growled at the girl.
"He left me", she answered through sobs. "He said the car was taking too long and went to the Gryphon kingdom in his scary wolf form."
"Fuck!", I roared inside the car.
The girl didn't even flinch. She couldn't see or hear me if I wasn't using my shadow form.
Ken said a seer told them this girl is crucial to the boss' journey. Perhaps she's King Killian's mate...although I doubted it. I've only spent a minute with her and I can already tell she's not strong enough to be his mate. She wouldn't survive being mated to the Gryphon king. No god would be cruel enough to bind this poor girl to King Killian. He'd eat her alive.
It didn't matter why she's important for this journey though. All that mattered was that Alexander said she was crucial. The words of a seer are not to be underestimated.
There was no time to introduce myself to her or explain why she and I had to get to the Gryphon kingdom right this instance. I had to use my shadow form.
"Stop the car!"
She immediately stopped the car. She was frowning, wondering how or why the car had stopped.
I sighed. I didn't want to do this next part. Only my mate should get to do this, but I had no choice. This girl was driving way too slow and she didn't seem too sure where she was going.
"Get on the wolf infront of the car."
I reluctantly got out out of the car and shifted. Shadow stood infront of the car. No doubt she could see the large silver and black wolf that was almost as tall as the SUV. She'd have no choice but to get on our back, even if she was scared.
Despite my fears that I would have to use my abilities on her again to get on my back, the girl proved me wrong. She didn't seem as scared as I thought she would be. Perhaps there was some hope for her after all.
I lowered my head so she could get on my back. As soon as her hands were tightly gripped on my fur, I took off.
I was running as fast as I could and in my shadow form it didn't take me long to get to the Gryphon kingdom. My heart was beating so fast, it was going to beat right out of my chest. I was too late.
Blood and torn off human and gryphon limbs were waiting to welcome us at the border. The stench of gryphon blood filled the air, a thick red liquid was coating the green grass and no less than a hundred gryphons were now guarding the border; all in grypon form. The boss had obviously killed all the previous guards.
Shadow ran faster. If those gryphons were able to see us, they would have attacked us by now. They would have killed me if I didn't have a shadow to blind them.
I entered the kingdom without anyone even noticing me. What was waiting for me beyond the border was so much worse. There were more limbs strewn about. More blood scattered on the ground and trees. It was horrific. There were so many wings, heads, claws and paws lying around that I was certain at least fifty gryphons had been killed so far.
However, that didn't prepare me for the two men who were fighting right on top of all those loose limbs and blood drenched ground. They were going to kill each other.
Orion's black coat was almost completely covered in blood. Most of it wasn't his, but a fair amount of it belonged to him. I could smell it. There were two huge chunks of fur and skin that had been ripped off of him. A piece of his ear was missing and he was even limping. I hadn't noticed it before, but his front right paw had a huge bite mark on it. The bite looked deep enough to have gotten to the bone. Then I saw the Alpha King's eyes. Someone had clearly tried to claw them out and almost succeeded. His right eye had deep scratches all around it. The left eye wasn't even open. There was one deep cut on it and that cut may have actually blinded him.
Taranis was in no better condition. His right wing was almost torn off. It was hanging off of him, threatening to take him down, but he refused to let it. He had huge chunks of feathers, fur and skin missing. It had been ripped off of him. His front left paw had the skin completely torn off. None of the skin was left and not only that, but I could see some bone sticking out.
Both kings looked like they were about to die, but neither of them were going to give up.
The moment I saw the scene infront of me, I cast a shadow over everyone there. I could feel the darkness forcing itself into Killian and his men. It blinded them, made them deaf, made them numb. They couldn't move. There was only darkness around them and inside of them.
It was different with the boss. Perhaps if I hadn't pledged my allegiance to him or bonded myself to him through a blood bond like every other wolf in the Werewolf kingdom, my abilities would have worked on him as well. I might never find out why my powers never work on him and I may never know why he and Kendrick were able to see me. Whatever it is, my powers weren't working on Mathew. Instead of filling him with darkness and making him numb like the others, the darkness curved around him. It wouldn't dare touch him and from how Orion was acting, I could tell he wasn't even blinded by it. Everything was as bright as day to him.
"You're defying my orders, Keyon", he growled at me through the mindlink.
"I had to boss!" I looked at him again. I couldn't stand seeing him in that state. I was way too late. I had just come to see him and Killian finish each other off.
He completely ignored me and prepared to lunge himself at Taranis who obviously no longer had any control over his senses.
"Boss!", I mindlinked him. "Boss, Killian doesn't have her! This is all just a ploy to take both kingdoms down. You have to stop!"
Orion stopped his attack mid air. As soon as he landed, he snapped his head at me.
I heard the bones in his front right paw cracking the moment he landed. He must have been in an excruciating amount of pain, but he didn't seem to care at all.
"He has her, Keyon!", he growled at me. "He has her and I'm going to kill him for it!"
"Boss, I promise you he doesn't." I tried to speak as fast as I could. "I interrogated Danny like you ordered me to. You were right about her, boss. She's working with Raphael. She told him Agatha sent Liz here. Raphael captured Liz as she was heading back to you and killed Mike."
"No!", he roared with both anger and pain evident in the link. "Where is she then? Where is Raphael? She won't survive Mike's death. She'll blame herself!"
"That's what we have to focus on now, boss. We have to ask the gryphons if they know that she was taken. Maybe we can investigate the scene and find clues."
He was silent for a while. No doubt he was thinking of what to do next. He just waged war against the Gryphon kingdom and there's no taking it back. He and Killian were in the middle of an official challenge and they had to fight to the death now, but we couldn't afford any of that right now. I don't understand why Raphael wants Mathew and Killian to kill each other, but whatever the reason is, he couldn't succeed. If Mathew dies, the werewolves will lose their strength, but worse than that, every alpha will try to claim the throne for themselves. He has no heir and hasn't even marked his Queen. Ken could take the throne, but there would still be many alphas trying to fight him for it. The whole kingdom would be destabilised and we still had a war to face.
The same thing would happen to the Gryphon kingdom. They too may actually lose their strength. Although perhaps they wouldn't have a power struggle because the Gryphon kingdom doesn't consist of different packs with their own alphas. Instead, every village, every city and every town is ruled with absolute force by the King. King Killian doesn't need an alliance amongst different packs. He doesn't need to get their input when making any decision. He has absolute power and control over the kingdom. Plus, his father is still alive so King Maxwell would be able to maintain stability if Killian died.
I waited for the boss to make his next decision. I actually had no idea how he would solve this.
"Boss", I decided to make a suggestion after a few minutes of silence, "I can use my powers on the entire Gryphon kingdom. I can make them forget this ever happened or we can-"
"No!", he immediately retorted. "I told you you can't misuse your powers like that. This isn't my kingdom or an ally of ours. He has the right to make his own choices and rule as he pleases, just like I do. Stop doing whatever it is you're doing to them. I have to talk to Killian."
I hesitated. If Mathew wanted to talk to Killian, he would have to shift back into his human form. He'd be left vulnerable and Taranis would ultimately kill him. I couldn't remove my shadow.
"He might kill you if you're in your human form, boss".
"He won't", Mathew mindlinked me back. "Do it now. That's an order."
I watched the boss shift back into his human form. He had the same injuries as Orion. His right eye had scratches all around it and the cut running across his left eye was so deep that he couldn't open the eye. His right arm had a bone sticking out and chucks of flesh on his body were missing.
I reluctantly removed my shadow over everyone. They looked confused as to why or when the boss had shifted.
Taranis stalked Mathew until he was standing a mere inches from him. He could easily kill him. He was in his beast form while Mathew was in his human form.
