The Main Heroine Falls for the Extra

Chapter 0 - Beginning

There is a web novel called ‘Child of Yggdrasil.’

It’s an academy romantic comedy novel about the protagonist ‘Allen Ludwig,’ who is chosen by the world tree Yggdrasil, overcoming hardships and growing alongside many heroines, including the main heroine ‘Riel Ignis.’

I, an avid reader of that novel, was possessed into that story world as soon as it concluded.

As ‘Kyo Wentos,’ an early villain who briefly appears and exits at the beginning of the novel.

Kyo Wentos appears as the legitimate son of the Wentos Count family and the fiancé of ‘Liliana Edwin,’ one of the sub-heroines. Not only does he treat his fiancée Liliana poorly, but he also insults Allen who defends Liliana. When this leads to a duel, he corners Allen through underhanded methods but is reversed and suffers a crushing defeat, after which he walks the path of downfall—that’s the kind of early villain he was.

He doesn’t appear in the novel after that, but he’s such a forgettable extra character that no reader ever wonders about him.

I too realized I had been possessed as Kyo Wentos when I was introduced to Liliana as her fiancé—that’s how insignificant his role was, just someone readers would vaguely recall with “Oh right, there was such a guy.”

But at that time, I didn’t mind at all.

Liliana Edwin ranked high among the popular heroines, and I also counted her as one of my favorite heroines.

Not only was such a Liliana my fiancée, but the reason Kyo’s relationship with Liliana had soured was because Kyo had been bullying and mistreating Liliana since childhood, so it was a problem I could solve by being careful with my behavior.

I disciplined myself, devoted myself to my studies, and worked hard to improve my relationship with Liliana.

It was a miscalculation that my eyesight deteriorated from studying too hard and I had to wear glasses, but my path ahead seemed smooth sailing.

No, I believed it was smooth sailing.

“I’m really sorry to say this, but I’d like you to break off our engagement.”

That is, until I heard those words from Liliana about two months after entering the academy.
