The Moon has Awakened

Chapter 12: The Moon Has Awakened

Chapter 12

"Child, come here, discuss what information you've gathered on the Moonstone.." Donella ordered. Hugo, trembling, obeyed reluctantly and hid behind the cave with her. "Master! What are you doing, are you trying to blow my cover?" Hugo muttered in annoyance. "Why no, of course not, I just wanted to check in and learn about the data you have collected while observing Ulla's boy and his powers." Donella informed. Hugo sighed and summarized what he knew the best he could, "Well.. His body feels extremely cold after his magic surges, I believe he can cause a storm if very overwhelmed, sometimes his hand turns to the Black rocks linked to the Moonstone itself, when his power is activated, the ground beneath and around him dies and blackens and his blue eyes and singular strand of blue hair begins to glow as well, and he has a very bad reaction to the decay incantation.." Donella processed this, writing this down in her journal and queried, "Interesting, what kind of reaction to that incantation??" "His eyes turn completely black and he is way too cold to even touch, and any life around him weakens." He told her. "Well, we shouldn't let him say it again, that could really strain him and make him even more vulnerable to Ulla's power." Donella concluded. Hugo couldn't help himself and asked, "Is there a way to not hurt him when we take away his only chance of meeting his mother??" Donella was surprised that Hugo showed compassion, she taught him to not express emotion or empathy. "Hugo? Do you truly care about the boy?!" Donella exclaimed, raising her brow with a dark smirk, laughing. "Well.. No, that isn't your business! Why would I care, I just thought, his emotions are quite strong and he has definitely been hurt before!" Hugo protested, trying not to blush. "Are you really arguing with ME?! I took you in from the STREETS, I've taught you everything to know as an alchemist, scientist and criminal! This is the thanks I get for raising you boy?!" Donella retorted manically. "I don't care! I'm old enough to take care of myself anyway! I feel like I should tell him, instead with hiding this secret from him, he's my friend and I can't hurt him!" Hugo argued. "Friend?! You've grown soft Hugo, but take this warning seriously, child." Donella enunciated, "I see you starting to suspect you're in the wrong, but may I remind that we've made a pact? If you were to tell him you've been using him all along, how do you think he'll react?! Watching as he cries as the hope inside him dies and he grows to despise the boy who fed him lies, now that would hurt, more than hiding it from him, but if you do tell him, I won't let you follow me, I'll leave you alone just like your mommy and daddy did, understand Hugo?!" Hugo felt like he was punched in the guts hearing his master comparing herself to his parents and threatening him to leave him behind just like they did, he cared about Varian more than anything now, but he couldn't be on the street again alone. "F-Fine, I won't say anything.. I promise." He said, leaving a bitter taste in his mouth. Donella frowned and said, "Regardless, I can tell that you are more gentle now, which isn't the way I've taught you to be, so even if you keep this promise, just know, that for now, I'm disappointed in you, boy.." She walked away with Hugo feeling crushed, how could he hide his secrets from Varian now that he liked him in a way he never thought he would feel for anyone?? TO BE CONTINUED..
