Chapter 17: Mid-Knight
He opens the envelope by ripping off the seal of I.I.L.
Inside which there were three different documents describing a court case, the judge and an informant.
Trial starts on that very day, on a council member, Mr. Ghosh,
Accusing him of planning a riot and rebelling against the British government.
The hearing will take place under the judge named 'Fredrick Williamson'
And he got three days to gather all the information about the judge, the prosecuting lawyer, and the whole case.
Is this the same Mr. Ghosh? He thought
He took out his pocket watch from his bag, and saw it was very late to get of the hostel for this task.
So, instead, he went to the warden asking for this week's newspaper
'Why do you want them??' the warden asked him
To which he replied ' I.I.L.', he understood his reason
And the warden took him to the store room where all the old newspapers were kept as trash to be sold for recycling.
Ashvini went from pile to pile to check the dates, and finally, near to the end, he found this week's bundle of the Indian Gazette newspaper.
He picked up all of them and started heading towards his room,
That's when Thomas met him in the corridor,
'Hey, where are you taking this trash along?' he asked, looking at the bundle Ashvini was carrying.
'Oh, this is just for the general knowledge and current world order understandings,' he replied with an alluring flex of his willingness about learning, which just stuns Thomas's mind by his brilliant audacity of expressing the efforts.
Although that was not the reason,
'Now, may I?' he asks for leave
'Yeah, sorry to waste your time' Thomas replied sarcastically
Then he came his room, kept the bundle on his table, and sat on the chair in front of it, took a pencil and a red pen.
Starts searching for this case, starting with the headline of case
And one by one, going through all of them, marking out the names and reading out the whole case that was published in the papers.
Took him hours for that, and just as it he got himself up till midnight.
IN the end, he got three important people to look upon their history and connections, one was Mr. Ghosh himself
The prosecution barrister, S.K. Pandey, and the Judge Fredrick Williamson.
But there was nothing written about the barrister who'll be defending council member Ghosh during he whole trial.
Ashvini got pretty suspicious there.
The next morning, as usual, he woke up at five, with just four hours of sleep,
But he could barely stand still and got himself heavier eyes than before. He went to the class after finishing the morning routine,
Where he found Palki, who was already waiting for him the class,
'Morning, Ashvini!' She said
'Morning,' he replied with a yawn,
'Ohh, your eyes look heavy with the underlined dark circles. Haven't slept well ??' Her concern with his health was pretty obvious.
'Let it go,' he says, that's when he thought to ask about Mr. Ghosh's case
But before he could ask, she got up and gets closer to him with her hands behind her back here Ashvini got puzzled with her silence and then gave him those sheets back.
'Thank you for these'
'Oh, yeah, it's my pleasure helping you'
And without wasting another second, he asked
'Hey, palki, your father works for Mr. Ghosh, right?'
'Yeah, he is his personal secretary, but why are you interested ?'
She gets her right hand on his cheek, where he got punched
'Does it still hurt?'
But Ashvini didn't reply to this; instead, he said
'Actually, yesterday I read about his court trial. Was just curious to know'
Hearing this, she gets her hand off his face and turns back to his seat saying
'Yeah, my father will be representing Mr. Ghosh during his trial.'
