Chapter 46: Chapter 46: News of Tesoro
Marine Training Ground, One Week Later, Afternoon
The scorching sun beat down mercilessly on the sandy ground, and heat waves rose, making the air seem to distort slightly. Ace stood in the center of the training ground, his jacket casually tossed aside. His bare upper body was drenched in sweat, but it couldn't hide the brilliant blue flames dancing on his arms.
His expression was focused, his body like a drawn bow, his presence restrained yet full of explosive power. It was clear that after this week of intensive special training, Ace could not only precisely control the temperature and output of his Flare-Flare Fruit, but even the color of his flames had undergone a qualitative change.
"It won't be like last time," Ace grinned, the flames on his fists suddenly contracting into a thin layer, like a glove clinging to his skin.
Opposite him, Law stood quietly, his hands in his pockets, his gaze as cold as ice. His "ROOM" space surrounded his body, its slightly rippling edge like a thin mist, his presence steady. Although he held a standard-issue Marine sword, it exuded an undeniable pressure in his hands. This was his first time fighting as a swordsman in a real battle, but his sharpness and pressure were impossible to ignore.
The edge of the field was crowded with Marines who had come to watch. Even Drake, who was in the middle of his own training, couldn't help but stop and watch. The duel between two young geniuses was a rare spectacle at Marine Headquarters.
"Are you ready?" A smile appeared on Ace's lips, and the blue flames spread along his forearm to his fist, the scorching presence exploding like a storm.
Law didn't respond, but just lowered his head slightly, his right hand on the hilt of his sword, his ROOM space quietly expanding by a circle.
"Fire Gun: Modified!"
"Swish, swish, swish!"
Ace attacked first. He made a gun shape with his hands, and dozens of fire bullets, as thin as a finger joint and like meteors, shot out from between his fingers. Each fire bullet was compressed to the size of a marble but contained a temperature of 3000 degrees, its penetrating power and density far exceeding before. A "sizzling" sound erupted in the air, as if even the light were being distorted by the high temperature.
Law's eyes narrowed. "Shambles!" In an instant, he swapped places with a rock at the side of the field. The fire bullets missed, and the moment they hit the ground, the sand melted into dark red glass crystals, the air torn apart by the scorching heat.
The spectating Marines all gasped. "His flame intensity now... is not at all like the fire-playing level from before!"
"He actually burned the sand into glass?! Is that the 'compressed high-temperature fire gun'?!"
Law didn't delay. His ROOM space flashed, and his figure teleported to Ace's side and back, his sword flashing. "Scalpel!"
Ace's eyes sharpened. His Observation Haki instantly caught the change in the approaching air current. He ducked and retreated, the blade of the sword narrowly grazing his nose. He reacted quickly, his feet pushing off the ground, flames shooting out like a rocket as he leaped—
"Flame Leg: Pierce!"
Flames wrapped around his calf, and he kicked out fiercely, the temperature burning the air, carrying a heavy pressure.
"CLANG!"
Law gritted his teeth and blocked. The sand beneath his feet shattered, and his legs went numb from the force of the fire, but his stance was still steady. He was calm and composed. The next moment, he activated his spatial ability again, swapping places with a piece of rubble behind him, instantly closing in on Ace's back.
"Counter Shock!"
The blade of his sword stabbed towards Ace's back like a shadow, but this time—
"Swish!"
Ace predicted it in advance. His body suddenly turned into flames, and the slash passed through the scorching illusion. He then materialized in mid-air.
In mid-air, Ace's legs erupted with an astonishing flame jet. This was an innovative use of the flame jet principle integrated into the Marine Six Powers' "Shave."
"Flame Shave!"
In almost an instant, Ace had closed in on Law, his right fist, wrapped in pale blue flames, aiming straight for his face. The high temperature made the surrounding air crackle.
Law's reaction was equally astonishing. Just before the fist was about to hit, he activated his ability at the last moment: "Shambles!"
The two of them instantly swapped places. Ace's punch missed, but he immediately changed his move to an elbow strike. Law hastily blocked with his sword held horizontally. The collision of Armament Haki and high-temperature flames made a harsh, metallic scraping sound.
"The temperature has increased again..." Law thought to himself in shock. The last time they had fought, his sword could completely block the flames. Now, the part of the blade in contact with the flames was already starting to turn slightly red.
The spectating Marines let out bursts of exclamation. "So fast! I can't even see their movements!"
"That flame color... it must be at least 2500 degrees, right?!"
Drake stared intently at their every move, his fists unconsciously clenched. This level of battle was already far beyond that of an ordinary Headquarters Commander.
The fierce battle lasted for twenty minutes. Finally, Ace seized a moment when Law's stamina was failing and broke through the ROOM's defense with a "Flame Pressure: Point Shot." The highly compressed line of fire left a scorched mark on Law's chest. Ace then used "Flame Shave" to close in.
A "Fire Fist!"
His right fist punched out, and the compressed-to-the-extreme blue flames exploded, as if igniting the entire air.
"BOOM!!!"
Law was sent flying back several meters, crashing into the training ground's wall. Stone chips flew, and dust filled the air. After two seconds of silence, a tide of applause and cheers erupted.
"Ace won!"
"That fight was so strong! Are these guys even kids?!"
Law was kneeling on one knee, a slight scorch mark on his face, a trickle of blood at the corner of his mouth, but his gaze was even colder. Ace quickly ran over and helped him up. "Are you okay?"
Law stared at him for a few seconds, then took his hand and stood up. "You're strong." His tone was still cold, but there was no hostility in his eyes.
Ace grinned. "Hehe, if I hadn't learned Haki two years earlier, I might not have won today."
Law snorted lightly. "When I learn it, you won't have it so easy."
"Hahaha, I'll be waiting then!"
Marine Headquarters, Edge of the Training Ground
Outside the field, Zephyr and Roy stood side-by-side, their gazes passing over the churning sand and dust to the two figures who had just finished their fierce battle.
"These two kids..." Zephyr rubbed his chin, a rare, heartfelt smile on his face. "The future is really promising."
Roy nodded, his gaze filled with admiration and a hidden pride. "Ace's flames can already maintain a high-temperature compressed state for over thirty seconds; Law's control over his ROOM space is also becoming more and more refined... It's just that his stamina consumption is too great. He still needs to strengthen his basic training." He paused, a slight smile on his lips. "When they have both completely mastered Armament and Observation Haki... some Commodore will probably have to take these kids seriously."
"Hahaha!" Zephyr threw his head back and laughed. "That's what makes it interesting! The old bones of the Navy will have to be carried by the young people sooner or later. I've been waiting for this day for a long time."
Just then, the Transponder Snail in Roy's pocket suddenly rang, "Buru-buru-buru." The snail opened its eyes. It was a female model wearing thin-framed glasses, its tone professional and serious. "Rear Admiral Roy, please proceed to the intelligence department immediately. There is an urgent intelligence update."
Marine Intelligence Department, Office
The light in the office was dim, the curtains half-drawn. The map of the North Blue on the wall was marked with over a dozen red dots. Vice Admiral Tsuru stood in front of the map, holding a file, her voice as calm and crisp as ever. "Come in."
Roy pushed the door open, glanced at the room's layout, and noticed that the atmosphere was even heavier than usual.
"Regarding the target you specified—Gildo Tesoro." Tsuru took an encrypted folder from a drawer and handed it to him. "We've found his recent movements."
Roy took it, glanced at it. The photo in the file showed a young man with a rebellious look in his eyes. Although his face was handsome, it held a disturbing, twisted presence. The faint mark of a Celestial Dragon slave collar could still be seen on the side of his neck.
"He escaped from the Holy Land, Mary Geoise, two years ago?" He raised an eyebrow slightly. "A chain reaction from the Fisher Tiger incident, I suppose."
"That's right," Tsuru nodded slowly. "He was once a slave of the Celestial Dragons and has an unusual hatred for nobles and wealthy merchants, but his obsession with money is even greater." She pointed to a red dot on the map. "His last known coordinates were at the 'Kraymira Transfer Port' in the North Blue. It's a gray area where nobles, wealthy merchants, and smugglers mix."
Roy closed the file, his gaze darkening slightly. "I'll go there myself."
Tsuru paused, her brow slightly furrowed. "Now? You know that the North Blue is still a hotbed of Doflamingo's spies, right?"
Roy smiled, his tone playful. "Don't worry, Madam Tsuru. A little 'flamingo'... I really don't take him seriously."
Hearing this, Tsuru was taken aback for a moment, then she chuckled and shook her head lightly. "'Little flamingo'... that's quite fitting."
Corridor outside the training ground
Roy left the intelligence department and was walking back to his residence when he suddenly stopped. He took out a neatly folded Vivre Card from his pocket—it was Ace's. At this moment, the edge of the paper was slightly curling and twisting, showing that his emotions were fluctuating violently.
"Hah... did he get into trouble again?" He sighed lightly. The next second, his figure vanished with a "swish."
Training Ground, Science Unit's Special Test Area
"Quick, quick! Do that high-temperature flame radiation again!"
"The moment the pale blue flame forms, please keep the temperature constant. We need to read the plasma state data!"
At the edge of the training ground, Ace was surrounded by several science unit researchers. Various instruments were aimed at him, and everything from his energy fluctuations to his heat source focus was being recorded. He had a look of utter despair on his face. "I'm not an experimental animal, ahhhh!!!"
"But you are currently the youngest Logia user in the Navy, and you can control the blue flame state! Your scientific value is immeasurable!" a researcher shouted excitedly while operating an instrument.
Not far away, Law stood in the shade of a tree, his arms crossed as he watched this scene, a barely perceptible smile finally appearing on his lips.
