Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Speculation on the Severed Arm
East Blue, Dawn Island, Roy's Home, Night
Night had fallen, but one light still remained on in the village of Dawn Island. Inside the old house, an oil lamp flickered gently on the wooden table, casting a warm glow. Roc sat on the sofa, a pipe in his mouth, quietly reading a newspaper. Elin leaned against him, occasionally looking out at the dark sky.
"Do you think the kids will be back soon?" she asked, holding a cup of freshly brewed tea, the steam rising like the lingering worry in her heart.
"Be patient," Roc said, exhaling a puff of smoke, his tone steady. "Didn't the brat call on the Transponder Snail? When has he ever broken his word?"
Before he could finish—
"Swish!"
A spatial ripple gently stirred, a flash of light, and three figures quietly landed in the center of the living room.
"We're back!" Luffy was the first to bounce out, shouting loudly, his face still stained with barbecue grease, his smile bright.
Ace followed closely behind, carrying a small cloth bag. "Grandma, Grandpa! We brought a wind chime and some delicious sea cow meat!"
Roy, standing last, had shed his playful demeanor, his eyes soft. He said slowly, "Dad, Mom, I'm back."
Elin shot up, her eyes turning red. She rushed forward with a smile. "You brat! What took you so long? You still know how to come home!" She hugged Roy tightly for a moment before letting go, then quickly cupped Ace and Luffy's faces, checking them over. "Roy actually let you fight pirates!"
"Are you two hurt? Did you get hit? Have you been eating well?"
"We're super strong!" Luffy said proudly. "We beat a pirate crew and even had a feast!"
Elin didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She turned to Roy. "It's good that you're back. I was so worried..."
Roc tossed the newspaper aside and walked over, his face stern. "Coming back so late at night, what's that about?"
Roy scratched his head, his face apologetic but his tone gentle. "Sorry, I was delayed a little." He looked at his parents and said seriously, "But I have to go out again. I'll leave the kids with you for now."
"Now?!" Elin was taken aback. "It's so late. Can't you go tomorrow?"
Roc frowned. "You're not going to cause trouble again, are you, brat?"
Roy smiled slightly and patted his mother's hand. "Don't worry. There aren't many people in this world who can completely defeat your son." He paused, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "And even if I run into someone I can't beat, they can't catch me either, hahaha~"
"You're still laughing," Elin said with a chiding tone, but her eyes were full of pride.
"You brat," Roc snorted. "No matter how strong you are, remember that safety comes first."
"I know, Dad." Roy turned, his figure slowly fading in a spatial ripple, leaving behind a light sentence, "I'll be back soon."
The room fell into a brief silence. "He's still the same," Elin said with a soft laugh, shaking her head.
"He takes after someone," Roc glanced at Luffy and Ace. "These two little ones are probably cut from the same cloth."
"Hehe~" Ace and Luffy scratched their heads and grinned foolishly.
Elin sighed slightly and turned to Ace and Luffy. "Are you two hungry? Grandma will go heat up some food for you."
"Hungry!" Luffy immediately raised his hand, his eyes shining.
Ace, on the other hand, took an exquisite wind chime from his bag and handed it to Elin. "Grandma, I bought this in Marineford. I hear it brings good luck if you hang it by the window."
Elin took it carefully and gently shook it. "Jingle—" The clear, pleasant sound of the bell rippled through the room, as if washing away the fatigue of the long night. "It's so beautiful," she said, her eyes turning red. "You silly child, you actually remembered to bring a gift for grandma..."
Roc walked over and also looked down at the small, exquisite wind chime, snorting lightly. "You know how to be filial. At least I didn't teach you for nothing."
"If you like it, Grandpa, I'll bring you a special pipe like Instructor Zephyr's next time," Ace said, scratching his head, a little embarrassed.
"Ahem, ahem, ahem—" Roc was choked. "This... ahem, it's the thought that counts."
"Grandpa, you're blushing!" Luffy pointed at him with a laugh.
"You shut up!" Roc slapped him on the back of the head.
Just then, Elin had already brought out a large plate of hot stew and side dishes, as well as fragrant rice. "Come, come! Eat while it's hot." She filled the table, her face full of smiles.
"Waaahhhh, it's meat!" Luffy screamed and pounced, his eyes shining. Ace also happily dug in.
Roc stood by the window and gently hung the wind chime on the window frame. The night wind blew, "Jingle-jingle—" The wind chime rang, the moonlight fell, and the room was filled with hot food and laughter. He looked out at the starry sky and murmured to himself, "The brats... they've all grown up."
High above the East Blue, Midnight
The night wind howled, the sea of clouds churned, and the stars were faintly visible through the thin mist. A streak of light sped across the sky, each flash crossing dozens of nautical miles, as if carving a series of cracks in the night sky.
"Swish—"
Roy wore his Justice cape, his black hair flying wildly in the wind, his eyes as cold as a blade, reflecting the outline of the silent, sleeping island in the distance.
"In the original story, Shanks lost his arm two years ago... to save Luffy who had fallen into the sea."
"But Luffy was never in Windmill Village. He was taken away by me personally, and the timeline was pushed back by two years."
He frowned slightly, an undeniable ripple in his heart. "Logically, the Nika fruit should have already been taken by Red-Hair, but he has yet to find a new 'vessel'."
"And now, there's suddenly news that he lost his left arm in the East Blue? This is too strange."
In the wind, his thoughts became clearer, and a mottled, blurry "past life memory" rolled in his mind like a wave—speculation about "Shanks's left arm": It was once rumored in intelligence circles that that arm had been secretly tampered with by Imu or the Five Elders years ago, or had a special Celestial Dragon mark buried in it, allowing for long-distance tracking, surveillance, and even forced teleportation back to the Holy Land. It was one of Red-Hair's weaknesses that forced him to "negotiate." If he wanted to be truly free and disappear into the darkness, he had to "cut it off himself."
"If all of this is true..."
"Then his 'self-severing of his left arm' this time was not to rescue some minor character."
"It was for freedom."
A sharp glint flashed in Roy's eyes, as if a spark had been struck in the clouds. "Only by cutting it off himself could he break free from the shackles, escape the surveillance of the Holy Land, and truly become that 'uncontrollable force'."
He murmured, "So, he proactively set this up. Is it because the Nika fruit has finally found a new 'vessel'? Or is it to cover up the start of some plan?"
"Or perhaps, he has finally decided to betray the World Government?"
A light flashed in Roy's eyes. He suddenly took a step, becoming a golden-white arc of lightning that cut through the night sky. "I can't just guess blindly anymore."
"Only by seeing it with my own eyes can I see the true face of this game."
Under the night sky, a figure like a comet headed straight for the East Blue, Sartsuroso Kingdom. That was where Shanks had lost his arm, and also the starting point of the mystery.
