The Pinnacle of the Navy! Starting from Being Captured by Garp

Chapter 60: Chapter 60: The Hearts of Parents

East Blue, Dawn Island Village

The setting sun fell, and the sky was a golden red. Smoke curled up from the small village at the foot of the green mountains, and the occasional lowing of cattle and the laughter of children came from the fields. A tall figure slowly walked onto the village path, wearing a white "Justice" cape, particularly striking in the afterglow of the setting sun.

"Yo! It's Roy, he's back!!!"

A shout from the distant fields caused a commotion. A few villagers carrying hoes stood up straight, their faces beaming.

"The big shot from our village is back!"

"What rare things did he bring back this time?"

"Is it candy? Is it jerky?"

Roy chuckled lightly, took out several bags of colored candy from his coat, and casually tossed them to the children who were running over. "Don't fight, don't fight, everyone gets some!"

"Wow~" The children cheered and swarmed forward, laughing as they rolled in the fallen leaves. The adults nearby watched this scene, their faces full of doting and pride.

Just then, an old man in an old cotton vest, his face full of wrinkles from smiling, walked over with slow steps. It was the village's famous "braggart uncle." He looked up at Roy's three-meter-tall figure, reached out to pat his shoulder but barely reached his arm, and instead patted it vigorously a few times. "Kid, back then I just said it casually, but you really paved the entire village road into a kingdom-standard avenue, hahaha!"

Roy smiled and scratched his head. "Of course I remember what you said. It's much more convenient to go to the market in town now, right?"

"You bet!" the old uncle said proudly. "The three neighboring villages all come to our place to buy things, saying we're 'walking on the road of justice,' hahaha!"

The laughter echoed in the village, creating an incredibly warm homecoming atmosphere with the evening glow.

Dawn Island, Roy's Home, Dinnertime

The charcoal fire was burning brightly, and a tempting aroma wafted from the kitchen. The wooden table was laden with steaming home-cooked dishes: potato and sea cow stew, fresh fish soup, soy-sauce-braised seaweed... the smell made one's mouth water.

"Dinner's ready!" Grandma Elin called out with a smile, still holding the last pot of fried meatballs.

Luffy and Ace could no longer sit still and almost pounced on the table. "I want that meatball!"

"Ace, don't grab my bowl!!"

"Eat slower!" Grandpa Roc said with a stern face, glaring at them. "You two are always the first to eat! The food isn't even all on the table yet!"

Roy sat at the side of the long table, watching this scene, a soft curve on his lips. When everyone had eaten their fill, he put down his chopsticks and looked at his parents seriously. "Dad, Mom... are you really not willing to move to Marineford? I've arranged a house for you there. Marine Headquarters is safer, and I'd be more at ease."

Roc and Elin exchanged a look. Elin gently put down her spoon and said softly, "Silly child, we've lived here all our lives. Our friends, neighbors, habits, they're all here."

Roc snorted, but his tone was unusually gentle. "Don't always treat us as old people. Even if there's danger, we have ways to protect ourselves."

Elin patted Roy's hand. "As long as we know you're all growing up safely and healthily, we're content."

After a moment of silence, Roy nodded solemnly. "Then you have to promise me, if anything happens, you must contact me with the Transponder Snail. No matter where I am, I can come back immediately."

"We know, we know. You're as naggy as your mother," Roc said, downing his bowl of wine in one gulp.

"I heard that, old man," Elin said with a laughing curse, then added more rice to the three's bowls. "Hurry up and eat. Don't just talk. You're still growing."

The night wind, carrying the fresh scent of flowers and grass, blew past their ears. A bright moon hung high in the sky, with a few stars. Roy stood alone in the small yard, looking up at the night sky. Behind him was the house with its lit windows, from which came the warm sound of laughter. His eyes reflected the light of the sky, but his heart had already flown far away.

"Pure Gold from the Grand Line, a marvel that can grant eternal youth..."

"If that thing really exists..." He looked down at Elin and Roc at the dinner table inside the window, those two familiar yet increasingly aging figures. The memory of his past life as an orphan struggling to survive came back to him, as if a string in his heart had been gently plucked.

"With my current abilities... as long as there's a clue, I can find it."

He clenched his fist, his gaze as firm as ever. "I will definitely let you live healthily and happily forever."

The night sky was quiet, the starlight faint, a picture of tranquility. Behind him was the harbor he cherished more than anything.

The next morning, a thin mist lingered, and the roosters were just beginning to crow. The sun had not yet risen over the mountains, but the chimney of Roy's house was already emitting white smoke. The smell of fried food came from the kitchen.

Grandma Elin, wearing an apron, was busy at the stove. A thick soup was simmering in a small pot, and a large baking sheet was filled with freshly baked jerky and honey biscuits, giving off a tempting aroma.

"Luffy, open your mouth. It's not cool yet," she said, putting the biscuits into a cloth bag while nagging, "No matter how tight your training is, you can't go hungry. Especially you, Luffy. The moment you eat meat, you forget your own name. Be careful not to choke."

"Mmmph, mmmph," Luffy's mouth was already stuffed with three biscuits, his cheeks puffed out like a hamster's, grease at the corners of his mouth. He nodded vigorously while shouting, "Grandma's cooking is the best!"

Ace stood to the side, arms crossed, looking at him with a headache. "Can't you say goodbye to grandma like a normal person? At least don't have something in your mouth..."

"This is also a way of expressing my feelings," Luffy grinned, almost choking on a biscuit crumb. "Cough, cough, cough—!"

"See," Ace quickly patted his back and shook his head helplessly. "What a troublesome guy."

On the wooden steps at the entrance, Grandpa Roc stood with his hands behind his back, his gray-blue cotton clothes looking a little thin in the morning breeze. He seemed to be looking at the sky, but his gaze was actually following his two grandsons' movements. He said with a stern face, "Training is training. Don't slack off. Remember to write me a letter every month."

"Grandpa, I'm not a kid anymore," Ace rolled his eyes, but a smile unconsciously appeared on his lips. "Don't worry, we'll definitely work harder than anyone."

Roy walked to his father's side, his voice low. "Dad, we're leaving."

Roc said "mm" and pretended to wave his hand nonchalantly. "I know, I know. Go on, don't be late. Uh... come back when you have time."

"We definitely will." Roy smiled and nodded, a rare gentleness in his eyes.

Just before they left, Ace and Luffy ran to Elin and hugged her tightly with both arms.

"Grandma, next time we want to eat your stewed meat! Make a lot, the big chunks," Luffy said, his eyes shining.

Elin smiled and ruffled his hair while carefully hanging the bag of dry food. "Alright, next time Grandma will make you beef brisket, and your favorite rice cakes."

Ace, on the other hand, said seriously, "Grandma, I will work hard to get stronger. Next time I come back, it won't just be to eat. I want you to be proud of me."

Elin's eyes warmed, but she still held back her tears and adjusted his collar. "Silly child, you've always been our pride."

Roy stood behind the two of them and said softly, "Mom, we're leaving."

"Go on," as he spoke, he gently raised his palm, and a spatial ripple slowly spread out.

Elin waved her hand. "Be careful on the road. Remember to call us on the Transponder Snail."

Roc snorted lightly and turned his face away. "...Don't let people look down on the Marines from our East Blue." But his gaze had already unconsciously turned to the center of the spatial ripple, as if he wanted to watch the three departing figures for another second.

The next moment, the three figures vanished into the morning mist. In the empty yard, the wind rustled through the bamboo forest. Elin walked to Roc's side and gently patted his shoulder, her tone full of teasing. "You stubborn old man. You're the one who's most reluctant to let them go, but you still act so serious."

"Ahem... who's reluctant?" Roc coughed lightly and replied stiffly, "The brats just need to be tempered. It's good for them to go out and gain experience early."

"Hehe~" Elin smiled but didn't expose him further. She reached out and adjusted Roc's cloak, her tone gentle. "It's getting cold. Don't stand outside for too long."

"Mm," Roc nodded but still didn't move, his gaze still on the direction the children had left, a faint light in his eyes, as if they were a little moist. They were his three proudest children, and also the softest spot in his heart.
