Chapter 100: 100: Evil Dragon Fafnir

Since you can't beat them, just join them.

After realizing that Kevin was the tamer of the giant wolf and the hero who had killed giants, Siegfried gave up the idea of persuading them not to pursue the evil dragon Fafnir.

To be precise, Siegfried was even a little worried that Kevin and Slude wouldn't let him go.

After all, after the sparring session earlier, no matter how you looked at it, this guy seemed too strong!

Although Siegfried had no interest in the dragon's treasure, he felt a strong sense of responsibility to kill the dragon because he had been asked to do so.

But since Kevin wasn't interested in stopping him, Siegfried was relieved. He quietly went off to the side to pack his things.

"Kevin, you…"

Slude, frowning slightly, stepped forward, intending to ask about the Rhinegold. But when she saw Kevin lost in thought, her expression softened. She asked, "What's wrong?"

"No, I was just thinking…" Kevin snapped out of his thoughts, glanced at Siegfried in the distance, then pointed to himself and asked Slude, "Am I strong?"

"Hmm?"

Slude froze for a moment.

Wow, has this idiot finally figured it out?!

She stared at Kevin with wide eyes, her face full of shock.

In truth, Kevin had never really grasped his own strength. It wasn't his fault, though—it was mostly because of the environment he grew up in.

From the beginning, he had been beaten into the ground by Scathach. Even after getting stronger, Cu Chulainn, his lifelong rival, always seemed to have the upper hand over Kevin.

Yes, Cu Chulainn always had the advantage. Unless Kevin used the magic sword Fragarach, he wasn't truly a match for the demigod Cu Chulainn.

Then, when he arrived in Asgard, any pride he had accumulated from his victories on the continent of Erin was utterly crushed by battles with Shaki, Tyr, and Fenrir.

But now, standing here with Siegfried—the future dragon-slaying hero of worldwide renown—Kevin finally started to get some perspective.

Such a figure, destined to achieve legendary status, had just been soundly defeated by him. If Kevin still didn't realize how strong he was, then he really would have had to question his intelligence.

Slude tilted her head, her expression playful. "Why don't I feel that way? When you can fight me after breaking your contract with me, then come talk about being 'strong.'"

Kevin's mouth twitched at her jab. He glared at Slude. "How can you talk like that? Even if you're lying to me, shouldn't you at least say I'm strong right now?"

Kevin hated magic. For years, his lack of magical ability had plagued him. Only now, with Slude acting as his "Wi-Fi," did he have the chance to connect to the immense magical network of the Aesir.

The thought of breaking the contract with Slude and losing that connection…

"Oh no…"

Kevin shuddered. He turned to Slude and grabbed her hand dramatically, startling her.

"Even if I'm beaten to death, I will not sever this connection! If you dare ask me to break our contract, I'll… I'll get mad at you!"

Slude blinked at him, not fully understanding what he meant by "Wi-Fi," but she had a strong suspicion it wasn't anything good.

She rolled her eyes at him but didn't shake off his hand. Instead, she grabbed his hand even tighter. Kevin, stunned by her unexpected move, froze in place.

Slude looked into his eyes, her tone becoming serious. "Fine, then answer this: why do you want that gold ring?"

Kevin's expression stiffened.

"I remember telling you about the Rhinegold," Slude continued, her red eyes locked onto his. "It's cursed—a treasure even the gods dare not touch!"

Kevin instinctively tried to pull his hand away, but Slude held him firmly.

He glanced over at Siegfried, who was diligently packing his things, then back at Slude, who was staring him down with a no-nonsense expression.

Sighing in defeat, Kevin said, "Okay, okay, I'll confess. My original goal was indeed the gold ring. But don't worry—I have no intention of keeping it. I just want to return it to the Rhine and give it back to the Rhine fairies."

Slude's eyes narrowed as she searched his face for any signs of deceit. Seeing none, she sighed and released his hand.

"Who told you about the Rhinegold?" she asked after a moment.

"Loki." Kevin didn't hesitate to throw Loki under the bus.

"Lord Loki?" Slude's expression shifted slightly. "He asked you to return the Rhinegold?"

"Well… yes." Kevin nodded, feeling that his answer wasn't entirely untrue.

Hearing this, Slude finally relaxed. Deep down, she still felt that Kevin was hiding something, but his intentions seemed genuine.

In truth, Slude couldn't even imagine the full scope of Kevin's motivations. She assumed Loki had promised Kevin some kind of reward for dealing with the cursed treasure. She had no idea that Kevin's real goal was to alter the fate of her sister, Brunhilde—and that he was doing it for her.

Kevin, meanwhile, was just relieved that Slude had let the matter drop.

Just as the three of them prepared to set off for Fafnir's lair, Siegfried spoke up.

"Actually… I'm lost."

Kevin and Slude turned to look at him in unison.

"I was on my way to the dragon's lair," Siegfried explained, scratching his head. "But I ran into all sorts of obstacles—natural disasters, collapsed roads—and I somehow ended up here."

Kevin and Slude exchanged glances.

Loki. It had to be Loki.

Or maybe not just Loki. Considering how things worked in Asgard, it was likely the gods as a whole had a hand in Siegfried's detour.

"Slude, do you know how to get there?" Kevin asked.

Slude thought for a moment, then glanced around the area. She picked up a branch and handed it to Kevin.

"Throw this into the air," she instructed.

Kevin blinked in confusion but did as he was told. He tossed the branch into the air.

As the branch hit the ground, a sudden gust of wind blew it so that it pointed eastward.

"Alright," Slude said. "Let's go."

Kevin's lips twitched. "Is this… reliable?"

Even Siegfried, who rarely spoke out of turn, couldn't help but question the method.

"No surprise," Kevin said with a grin, now understanding what was going on. "This is a very reliable method."

Though Siegfried was still puzzled, he didn't argue further and followed Kevin and Slude's lead.

And so, the trio began their journey, throwing branches to guide their way.

After a week of trekking through forests, mountains, and uncharted terrain, Kevin, Slude, and Siegfried finally arrived at the mountain range where the evil dragon Fafnir was said to reside.

The air was heavy with an oppressive aura, and the land around them was barren and scorched. Charred trees dotted the landscape, and the stench of sulfur filled the air.

They stood at the edge of Fafnir's domain, gazing into the ominous mountains ahead.

Kevin gripped his magic spear tightly, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"Well," he said, his voice steady despite the tension in the air, "shall we go meet the dragon?"

Siegfried unsheathed his greatsword, his emerald eyes gleaming with determination.

And Slude, pulling her hood over her head, muttered under her breath, "Let's get this over with."

The trio stepped forward, their silhouettes disappearing into the shadows of the mountain. The lair of the evil dragon Fafnir awaited them.
