Chapter 506: Chapter 506: Shadow of Slaughter
"This..." Murphy's single claw had subdued their meticulously crafted pride and joy, leaving the group of crazed alchemists dumbfounded.
"Is this all?" Murphy asked, his tone calm but carrying an overwhelming pressure. "Too weak."
"Duke Murphy, it's because you are too strong," retorted a young alchemist with messy hair, unwilling to accept that their creation was weak. Their synthetic beast wasn't weak; it had indeed demonstrated legendary-level combat prowess, proven in several battles against sea tribes that had invaded the cloud island.
The synthetic beast had all the capabilities expected of a legendary creature. Despite some communication issues, it was, in their assessment, a perfect living war machine.
"What's his name? Or what do you call him?" Murphy suddenly asked.
"Shadow of Slaughter, Siflin," came the reply, not from any alchemist, but from the synthetic beast itself, restrained under Murphy's nebula chain's sealing power.
"Hmm?" Murphy was slightly taken aback, looking at the synthetic beast pinned down in a humiliating position. His eyes narrowed, and a chilling killing intent emanated from him.
"Your Grace, please have mercy!" The alchemist, soon to become a powerful figure, pleaded desperately, crawling to Murphy's feet. "He has no memories of the past, only some combat instincts."
"But he remembers his name," Murphy's killing intent faded. There seemed no need to be so tense. The past was gone; even if this was the full-strength Cang Feather Wing who once hunted him across the continent, it wouldn't matter now. As a Titan's scion, Murphy was no longer vulnerable.
"But that's all he remembers. Shadow of Slaughter has no other memories. He is a new life form with just combat instincts left," the balding alchemist explained respectfully, doing everything possible to preserve their creation.
"During your slumber, Shadow of Slaughter participated in five battles defending the cloud island. Each time, he fought until he was covered in wounds, once even requiring complete reconstruction. The enmity between his original form and you should not be inherited by him. He is a completely new being."
"A new life form?" Hearing the alchemist recount the deeds of Shadow of Slaughter, Murphy slowly released his claw, completely retracting his killing intent. The alchemist had not lied; this synthetic beast had indeed rendered significant service.
"Yes!" The alchemists, eager to defend their work, began to elaborate on the current Siflin.
"He now possesses an astonishing learning ability, particularly in combat. Initially, he fought purely on instinct, but after multiple battles, he has been learning and improving constantly."
"Siflin has the potential to grow even stronger. He has not reached his limit; his current power is much greater than when he first awoke."
"Besides his memory issues, Shadow of Slaughter's body functions are almost the same as a normal creature's. With a suitable mate, he could even reproduce," one alchemist added shockingly.
"Reproduce?" Murphy stared at the alchemist with a "you're kidding me" look. "In this form? His body contains the bloodlines of at least three species. What kind of creature could possibly mate with him?"
"Well, Duke Murphy, while there's no precedent, Shadow of Slaughter does have the potential to reproduce," the balding alchemist continued. "To balance the conflicting bloodlines in his body, we injected him with bronze dragon blood to stabilize it."
"So Siflin, with dragon blood, might pass on his mixed bloodline," Murphy mused, examining the synthetic beast now standing up and looking at him with a reverent gaze.
"In theory, yes."
"How did you create such a monstrosity?" Murphy was intensely curious. A creature with a blend of five bloodlines couldn't naturally exist; it had to be a result of artificial interference, challenging natural laws.
"When Shadow of Slaughter was delivered to us, he was only half a body. His arms and wings had been torn off, half his skull was missing, his body had lost most of its vitality, and his soul was severely damaged. He was on the brink of death.
Our initial intent was to save this legendary being, as a living legend is always more valuable than a dead one."
"Where did you get the courage to save a legendary enemy of mine? Weren't you afraid he'd kill you all upon recovery?" Murphy couldn't help but interject.
"That was thanks to the bioenergy extraction array you provided, Your Grace. All our modifications and repairs were conducted within this array, leaving him no chance to attack us."
"I see." The so-called bioenergy extraction array was a device Murphy had created using his knowledge of array magic. It was designed to extract energy from living beings, central to his perpetual motion machine concept.
"Upon testing, we discovered Shadow of Slaughter was a hybrid of a giant azure eagle and a sapphire mermaid. Judging by the remaining parts, his lower body was likely a fish tail.
Our initial plan was to inject some legendary creature's blood to restore his regenerative abilities. But I had a sudden idea: why not take this opportunity to modify him into a living weapon?
We attached the horns of a god bull to his head, replaced his lower body with the tail of a mountain-swallowing snake, and through a deal, obtained the blood of a bronze dragon, which we injected to balance the bloodline conflicts, achieving initial integration."
Though the process sounded straightforward, it involved countless calculations and attempts, with numerous failures over twenty-four years. The existence of just one Siflin spoke volumes about the difficulty of their work.
