The Serpent’s Heir

Chapter 22: Chapter 20: The Voice That Isn’t Hers

It happened during Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Iris sat three seats over, pale but steady.Until the lesson turned to magical boundaries.

Professor Wilmarth spoke:

"Most dark enchantments require consent. It's how we distinguish curse from corruption."

At the word "corruption," Iris flinched.

Then froze.

Then began whispering.

Something Possesses the Room

At first, no one noticed.

But Theo turned.

"Iris?" he said, half rising.

She didn't blink.

Her lips moved, whispering something beneath breath — faster, sharper, like trying to hold back a scream.

"He is remembering. The seal will not hold.He is dreaming me awake—"

Then she screamed.

Not a scream of pain.

A scream of echoes.

Chaos in the Classroom

Desks rattled. Wands snapped.

Professor Wilmarth tried to cast a stasis charm — but it rebounded.

A ripple of green magic flared from Iris's body, blowing parchment into ash.

Harry stood, eyes wide, as her gaze locked onto him.

Her pupils gone.

Her voice, layered.

Not hers.

"Do you see, Heir?""You've opened the first path.""And with each breath, you bring the House Unwritten back."

The Intervention

Harry reached her.

"Iris — Selene — stop!"

But the voice continued.

"Three must open the door.""You have remembered. She has borrowed. But the third has not yet broken."

Then she collapsed.

No injury. No mark.

Just silence.

Aftermath

The class was evacuated.

Wilmarth filed an incident report.

McGonagall summoned Harry but said little — just watched him, eyes full of things she hadn't yet decided to say.

That night, Iris slept like nothing had happened.

But Harry sat awake in the Slytherin dorm, hand pressed to his heart.

Because now he knew:

Selene wasn't reaching from the past.

She was speaking through the present.

And someone else — someone yet unseen — was about to break.
