The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 289 - The Open Tournament

Jiang Hui pulled out several sheets in succession, only to find they were all similar—pages filled with both text and diagrams. After a while, she had a thick stack of papers and asked, “What is this…?”

“Recent assignments. Just bringing them for your reference. No need to return them, I printed them with a duplicator. But if you’re not going to use them, just destroy them. Don’t upload them to the internet,” Huan Xian casually reminded her.

However, he rarely spoke unnecessary words. With this extra instruction, it was likely his bottom line for the request.

“These are all your assignments?” Jiang Hui wondered. It had only been a month since the start of the semester. Was her military operations unit just not giving out enough assignments? She felt like she had plenty herself.

But compared to the Command Department, her workload seemed insignificant.

Jiang Hui then carefully examined the stack of materials, bound tightly with twine. The top was a manuscript about an inch thick, and at the bottom, there were three sealed plastic bags containing additional materials, likely for sorting. She couldn’t help but admire the Command Department—they were all skilled. It was only the start of the semester, and already they had so many manuscripts and assignments. No wonder they were rarely seen socializing; they probably didn’t have time.

Jiang Hui was quite happy and thanked him, saying that this was exactly what she needed.

This friend was really reliable.

Xierman and Zhou Xiuwen were both stunned, especially Xierman. After getting Huan Xian’s approval, he also grabbed a sheet to look at. After just a few lines, he looked completely confused… What was this?!

It was hard to even read, let alone understand. Yet, Huan Xian and the others in the Command Department could extract and analyze it, giving examples one after another. They spent every day learning things like this, no wonder the commanders all seemed so mysterious and profound—they must have honed their skills through these assignments during their school years.

Of course, even more shocking was Jiang Hui asking Huan Xian for his assignments. Wasn’t she a student from the Combat Infantry Department? Why did she need to study Command Department materials? Didn’t they have enough work already? Xierman was utterly puzzled.

Indeed, what’s more terrifying than a top student or a genius is a study roll. It will quietly outpace everyone and leave them in the dust without you even noticing.

Truly, regardless of strength, in the solo combat unit, he only respects Jiang Hui.

With a face full of awe, Xierman carefully placed the manuscript back into Jiang Hui’s hands, then, as if afraid to disturb something, quickly retracted his hand and grabbed a spoon to shovel big bites of rough rice into his mouth.

Jiang Hui watched as one manuscript was nearly knocked onto the floor by a slap from Xierman’s hand, and she glanced at the face of someone who seemed momentarily struck by a huge shock. Jiang Hui was also left puzzled.

She shook her head. Xierman was indeed someone who had entered school early, starting his studies from a young age. His personality just wasn’t stable enough, a bit too excitable.

After thanking Huan Xian again, Jiang Hui was about to stuff the few scattered manuscripts she had pulled out back into the pile and store them in her space button. But she noticed that, at some point, Clarens, who had been quietly taking notes, was now looking at her… and at the manuscript in her hand.

Jiang Hui: …

Wait, do you want this too? But she couldn’t make that decision. Jiang Hui had no choice but to turn to Huan Xian with a questioning look.

He nonchalantly replied, “I’ll send it to you.”

Clarens seemed a little uncomfortable as he replied, “Thank you,” then paused for a moment before awkwardly continuing, “This weekend… there’s a mecha open competition on the main planet, and I happen to have a few extra tickets. Would you… like to go?”

It was clear that he wasn’t very good at making friendly gestures, and his tone sounded stiff. Anyone not familiar with him might even think he was giving an order.

However, the others were used to his awkwardness by now.

And what was he talking about? Was it the kind of mecha open competition that only mecha soldiers of a certain level could participate in? Those events were almost all B-class or higher, and even in the inner systems, they were rare, let alone in the permanent star systems.

Such events were already considered hard to get tickets for. Even virtual live streaming tickets were sold at a high price, not to mention attending the event in person. Clarens was offering them tickets to such a live event… if this was a command, they would gladly accept.

Although not all of them were obsessed with mecha, their fields of study or family backgrounds were closely related to mecha, so they were all eager at the thought of watching the mecha open competition.

“Is it really possible?” Zhou Xiuwen looked at Clarens, his eyes a bit bright.

Clarens seemed uncomfortable dealing with such enthusiastic looks, and he awkwardly nodded, “These tickets were given to me by someone else, and I can’t use them all by myself. It would be a waste if I don’t go.”

Since they were going to the open competition anyway, it would be a waste not to take them.

Hearing this, the rest of the group didn’t hesitate and quickly decided to go to the competition together that weekend.

Coincidentally, Jiang Hui was planning to return to the main planet that weekend. The competition was on Sunday, so she could leave on Friday evening to visit home.

Jiang Hui’s plan was so detailed that she didn’t notice the others had gone from casually discussing things to falling silent. They couldn’t help but feel a bit helpless, watching her get lost in her thoughts and become absorbed in herself.

They had already noticed that Jiang Hui wasn’t someone who liked to talk. Although she spoke more than Clarens and Huan Xian, she was still the type who was meticulous in her thinking and rarely spoke unless prompted. Of course, when it came to explaining things or giving instructions, she wouldn’t hesitate to speak up, almost as if she had become a different person. But in everyday life, she was indeed a very quiet individual.

This, however, made her seem somewhat disconnected in daily interactions. Sometimes, when people were talking, she would suddenly fall into her own thoughts, and you would have no idea what was going on in her mind. Being around someone like that could sometimes feel a bit pressuring, as if you weren’t even in the same world.

When Jiang Hui snapped out of her thoughts, she heard Xierman asking if she would also be attending the mecha practical class this afternoon.

Yes, today was their first mecha practical session since the start of the semester. They had already had one theory class, and this was now the practical class, lasting a full three star hours.

Although Xierman was in Class One, he was also in the Combat Solo Division. The course schedules for the Combat Solo Division’s Classes One through Three were pretty much aligned, though each class attended their own. It was said that only at the end of the academic year would there be a joint exam for all three classes.

As students about to attend a practical mecha class, Xierman felt he had more in common with Jiang Hui. Of course, Clarens was also in the same boat, but he was a bit shy and didn’t dare to bring up such a grounded topic with Clarens.

However, talking to Jiang Hui was different. She might even be more interested and join the conversation. Xierman was eagerly anticipating this.
