Chapter 311: Riveria's Gratitude
Tina, of course, wasn't going to sit idly by. Her strong perception allowed her to vaguely anticipate Lala's attack trajectory.
With a slight sway of her body, Tina narrowly dodged all of Lala's strikes.
She then retreated rapidly, trying to distance herself from Lala.
For a long-range fighter like Tina, engaging in close combat with Lala was far from a wise decision.
Watching Tina pull farther away, Lala turned her body and aimed the tip of her tail directly at Tina.
A pink energy blast shot from Lala's tail, crossing hundreds of meters in an instant and striking Tina, inflicting significant damage.
From there, the outcome of the battle became clear. After a series of skirmishes, Tina, already injured by Lala's tail blast, ultimately succumbed and was defeated.
With this, the second round of matches came to an end, and the top six participants of the Martial Arts Tournament were decided. They were Erica, Milim, Jibril, Asuna, Luo Hao, and the newly victorious Lala.
...
After dinner, Eriri didn't join Nodoka Haramura and the others for mahjong like she did the previous night. Instead, she stayed home and watched anime with Illya and the others.
Around 8 p.m., however, Ais arrived with Riveria and her companions for a visit.
"Ais, what brings you here so late?" Eriri asked, reaching out to gently stroke Ais's silky blonde hair.
Ais showed no resistance to Eriri's affectionate gesture, but Lefiya, standing a few meters behind Ais, seemed visibly flustered.
She opened her mouth as if to speak but, glancing between Eriri and Ais's back, ultimately said nothing.
"No reason," Ais replied, shaking her head lightly before adding in her usual blank yet adorable tone, "Riveria wants to see you."
At that moment, Riveria stepped forward from where she had been standing a few meters behind Ais with Lefiya and the others. She approached and stood beside Ais.
Riveria performed a formal Elven royal bow, showing great respect to Eriri. "Greetings, Lady Eriri."
"Ah, Riveria. What brings you here?" Eriri smiled warmly, nodding to Riveria as she withdrew her hand from Ais's head.
As Eriri's hand moved away, a fleeting expression of reluctance seemed to cross Ais's otherwise stoic face.
"I came here primarily to express my gratitude," Riveria began, her tone sincere. "Ais has told us about everything that's happened in the chat group. Without the generous amount of points you granted her, she wouldn't have achieved her current strength."
Pausing briefly, Riveria continued, "Ais's growth benefits not just herself but also the Loki Familia as a whole. More importantly, Ais is a cherished family member to us—like a sister to me. So, whether emotionally or logically, I felt it necessary to come here and thank you personally."
Riveria lowered her head slightly, her demeanor nothing short of humble and respectful.
It was entirely natural for her to act this way. She had learned from Ais about Eriri's immense power, and facing such a formidable being, showing reverence was only appropriate.
"Oh, that?" Eriri replied with a soft laugh. "There's no need to thank me. Ais joining our chat group was purely her good fortune. Besides, as a member of the group, Ais is like a sister or family member to me, so everything I did was of my own accord."
With that, Eriri raised her hand again, ignoring the conflicted look on Lefiya's face, and reached out to Ais.
This time, however, she didn't stroke Ais's hair. Instead, she gently pinched Ais's delicate cheeks, her fingers sinking into the smooth, soft skin.
The sensation was undeniably satisfying.
"Alright, enough about that. Have you been enjoying yourselves in this world these past few days?" Eriri asked, retracting her hand and turning her attention to Riveria.
"Yes, of course. This world has brought us incredibly novel experiences. Almost everything here is something we don't have in our world, and I've learned a lot," Riveria replied, a look of awe spreading across her face as she recalled the sights and wonders she had seen over the past two days.
"That's good to hear. Once the Martial Arts Tournament is over, you can participate in the free duels. If you win, there are some pretty nice rewards to be had," Eriri said with a smile.
"Yes, Ais already mentioned it. To be honest, we came here mainly to earn the rewards you've so generously provided through those duels," Riveria admitted with a slightly embarrassed chuckle.
"Mm-hmm, then you'll need to give it your all," Eriri said, her encouraging smile turning toward Riveria and the trio of Tiona, Tione, and Lefiya standing behind her.
That smile, so radiant and full of beauty, momentarily dazzled all three of them.
After chatting with Eriri for a little while longer, Riveria and the others took their leave, with Riveria expressing a desire to invite Eriri to visit their world. Eriri readily agreed.
...
Another night passed, and the third day of the Martial Arts Tournament began. This marked the fourth day since the group had arrived in this world.
Since the passage of time had been paused in nearly all the members' original worlds, those accompanying them on this journey felt no urgency. Instead, they treated this trip to the other world as a mini-vacation and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
"Good morning, Lady Eriri," greeted Ai Hayasaka, dressed in a maid outfit, as she and Kaguya Shinomiya crossed paths with Eriri and her group on their way to the dining hall for breakfast.
Hayasaka's maid attire was noticeably different from those worn by Aoi Kujo, Athena, and Ibiruai. Hayasaka's uniform lacked the adorable and intricate touches that characterized the others' outfits.
Kaguya and Hayasaka were not staying with Eriri and her group. Instead, they shared a spacious suite with the Fujiwara sisters: Chika, Toyomi, and Moeha. However, only Kaguya and Hayasaka were present now. It was unclear whether the Fujiwara sisters were already in the dining hall or still sleeping in.
Such trivial matters weren't enough for Eriri to extend her perception to check on them.
Meanwhile, standing beside Hayasaka, Kaguya Shinomiya waved her right hand excitedly at Eriri, her face flushed with emotion. "Good morning, Onee-sama!"
Watching Kaguya's unusually animated expression, Hayasaka couldn't help but show a peculiar look on her face.
Although it wasn't her first time witnessing her young mistress acting like this, it still felt bizarre every time.
Hayasaka had heard Kaguya talk about Eriri countless times before. She also knew that Kaguya addressed Eriri as "Onee-sama." In fact, whenever Kaguya spoke of Eriri, she always used the term "Onee-sama," to the point where Hayasaka wouldn't have known Eriri's actual name if it hadn't been mentioned during the first introduction.
Still, Hayasaka chalked it up to Kaguya holding Eriri in very high regard.
Even when Kaguya's emotions grew unusually fervent and her cheeks flushed whenever she mentioned Eriri, Hayasaka didn't think much of it.
However, three days ago, when Hayasaka first followed Kaguya to this world and met Eriri, she realized that her impression of Kaguya as an ice-cold beauty had completely collapsed.
The fanatical demeanor Kaguya displayed in front of Eriri was utterly at odds with the aloof and elegant image Hayasaka had of her mistress.
Though Hayasaka admitted that Eriri's beauty was captivating to the point of being unforgettable, and she was grateful to Eriri for granting Kaguya considerable help and indirectly giving her more freedom, Kaguya's exaggerated behavior was still a bit much.
Even so, Hayasaka saw no reason to intervene. This side of Kaguya was oddly amusing to watch.
"Good morning, Kaguya, Ai," Eriri greeted Kaguya Shinomiya and Ai Hayasaka with a smile.
"You're headed to breakfast too, right? Let's go together," Eriri suggested.
"Sure!" Kaguya agreed enthusiastically, nodding with joy as she joined Eriri and the others on their way to the dining hall. Along the way, Kaguya cheerfully greeted other familiar faces in the group.
...
A delicious breakfast quickly came to an end, and everyone began heading toward the martial arts stage one after another.
When Eriri arrived at the stage, the spectator stands were already filled with fifty to sixty people.
With about half an hour left until 9 a.m., many people stood on the stage. Some were playfully sparring, while others practiced their skills with serious intent.
For instance, Saeko Busujima was sparring with Esdeath, their swords clashing fiercely as Cornelia and others cheered them on from the sidelines.
Although Mine and others from the Akame ga Kill world had been staying with Eriri and the group for the past few days, they usually woke up earlier. As such, they didn't travel together with Eriri in the mornings.
For Mine and the others, the daily sparring matches between Saeko and Esdeath had become routine. Back in their original world, the two often dueled several times a day, and this habit carried over to their time in this world.
The martial arts stage was the ideal place for sparring. Its barrier only suppressed participants' strength during the official tournament. At other times, it allowed full capabilities while also providing features like instant restoration of energy and physical condition after a battle—even resurrection in case of accidental death.
With no concerns about injuries or fatalities, combatants could unleash their full strength without hesitation. This setup was particularly appealing to those who loved combat, such as Saeko and Esdeath.
Their matches over the past few days had been incredibly intense, with injuries being minor inconveniences compared to the life-and-death scenarios they sometimes simulated. Both had even experienced death once during their practice bouts.
Soon, the half-hour passed, and the clock struck 9 a.m. Saeko and Esdeath concluded their match and returned to the spectator stands with Mine and the others.
Right on time, Aoi Kujo, dressed in her maid uniform, appeared in the air above the martial arts stage. Her now-familiar voice echoed throughout the world.
"Now commencing the third round of the Martial Arts Tournament. This round consists of three matches and will determine the top three contestants."
As Aoi Kujo finished speaking, two illusory figures materialized in the air above the stage.
Looking at the figures, Aoi Kujo continued, "The first match will be between—Milim and Lala. Both combatants, please take the stage. The match will begin in five minutes."
Even as the host, Aoi Kujo didn't know the matchups in advance. The combatants' figures only appeared moments before she announced them.
In the spectator stands, close to Eriri, Momo and Nana raised their small fists, cheering for Lala. "Onee-sama, good luck!"
"Mm-hmm, thank you, Momo, Nana," Lala replied with a sweet and natural smile toward her younger sisters.
Nearby, Milim leaped up from her seat. "Wahaha! I didn't expect to go first today!"
She then turned to Lala, sitting next to her, and grinned brightly. "Lala, let's have a great fight!"
With that, Milim flew toward the stage, and Lala quickly followed after her.
Five minutes later, with Aoi Kujo's command, the first match of the six-to-three round officially began.
Since Lala's combat prowess was significantly higher than that of Rias and Fubuki, Milim didn't play around as she had in the previous days. She immediately showcased her true abilities.
Hovering in mid-air, Milim raised both hands above her head, a cyan energy sphere forming between them. Countless starlike particles radiated outward, scattering in all directions.
