The Super Lazy System

Chapter 7: Begin the Hunt

While eating his snack during the break, Hikaru pondered how to handle potential threats in this new school.

"I won't be attacked without reason… right?" He tried convincing himself, after all, there was no reason for anyone to be hostile if he didn't do anything wrong or offend anyone.

However, it wasn't the risk of being attacked that truly concerned him. He had been training daily to deal with conflicts if they became unavoidable. What truly unsettled him was the idea of constantly being pressured to become a devil. Being human—or as close as possible to it—was something he wasn't willing to give up unless there was an extremely compelling reason.

"If I keep thinking about this, I'll just stress myself out." Trying to push the worries aside, Hikaru concluded that dwelling on the matter would only waste his time and fill his mind with unnecessary problems.

The break continued, but he felt isolated.

"It's weird to be at school and have no one to talk to."

Without his only friend around, Hikaru decided to do something to distract himself.

"Well, I might as well wander around."

As he walked aimlessly, Hikaru reflected on his abilities.

"Being able to use magic is amazing, and the physical strength I've gained gives me balance... But what's the use of strength without knowing how to fully utilize it?"

He missed having something to complement his skills, like martial arts or weapon techniques.

As a combat enthusiast, he loved weapons, but what fascinated him most was the idea of combining physical prowess with tools.

"I need to find a style that's perfect for me…"

And so the break passed, with Hikaru lost in thought while exploring the school surroundings.

When the bell rang, he returned to the classroom, facing the now familiar faces of his classmates. Classes continued until the second period ended, marking the end of the school day.

While packing his things to leave, the system appeared once more.

[Generating mission...]

[New Mission Available!

Begin the Hunt.

Eliminate 3 stray devils and start the hunt.

Reward: Inventory.

Time to complete: 8 hours.]

Hikaru froze for a moment, almost panicking.

"Are these missions escalating too quickly?"

Yesterday, he was merely walking around; today, he was tasked with hunting.

"This system is ruthless..."

He knew that sooner or later, he'd have to deal with such situations, but he didn't expect it to be this soon.

"The reward is worth it... and it'll be a good experience." Reluctantly, Hikaru accepted the mission.

"System, my light magic is similar to the sacred magic of this world, right? Is it effective against devils?"

[Exactly, Host.]

"That's all I needed to know. Let's enhance it."

Without hesitation, Hikaru used his reward from the previous mission to strengthen his light magic.

[System: One enhancement point will be used on Light Magic.]

[Light Magic - Rank B:

Additional abilities:

Spear of Light: A luminous, explosive projectile, effective against groups.

Radiant Burst: A wave of light that blinds nearby enemies.

Shield of Light: A protective barrier against moderate attacks.

Purifying Grace: Heals injuries and removes curses.

Guiding Light: An orb that illuminates dark areas.]

"Now this is what I call an upgrade!" Excited by his power boost, Hikaru felt a bit more confident about facing the stray devils.

"But how will I find them?"

[Host, it will be simpler than you think. When you're ready, I will guide you.]

"Great! No time to waste."

He said goodbye to his classmates and to Kiba before returning home. There, he changed into light and practical clothes for combat.

"Ready, system. Where can I find these stray devils?"

[To maximize your chances, it's better to wait until nighttime, Host.]

Feeling frustrated, Hikaru obeyed and waited patiently. Lying on the living room sofa, he passed the time playing with his light magic, creating spheres and shaping them into various forms. Although the practice was useful, the boredom was undeniable.

Finally, the system reappeared.

[Now we can begin. Search in remote areas or abandoned places in the city.]

Hikaru left the house and followed the instructions, walking through dark and deserted streets. Eventually, he felt a chill run down his spine, accompanied by a dark and disturbing presence.

"This feeling... it must be a stray devil."

Following the sinister energy, Hikaru found his prey. The creature had a grotesque appearance, with sharp claws and glowing eyes.

"What an ugly thing..." He commented without thinking.

"A daring human walked straight into my territory?" The stray devil's voice was hoarse and menacing. "Looks like I'll have a feast tonight. Hahaha!"

Licking its lips, the monster seemed to savor the thought of devouring Hikaru. The sight filled the boy with disgust and anger.

"Incarnation of disgrace... you won't be eating anyone tonight!"

The stray devil became furious at the provocation.

"You'll regret those words, foolish human!"

But Hikaru wasn't interested in wasting time with words. Preparing his magic, he faced the monster with determination.

"Then come, let's finish this quickly."

And so, Hikaru's first hunt began.
